Never ever use Q-Tips on lenses, use cleanroom wipes! Lenses have antireflective coatings made of calciumflouride (CaF2) or magnesiumflouride (MgF2). While beeing mostly chemically resistant and relatively hard (Mohs 6), they can still be scratched with Q-Tips. Q-Tips are not purely clean and contain microabrasive particles. Also do not use any water based liquid! Better use 40% Hexane (C6H14 ), 60% IPA (C3H8O). Btw. your lens body is still full of gunk.

Thank you very much for your input. I was iffy as to if i should use a Qtip but it was the softest “or so i thought” thing i had. Luckily i did use ipa as the cleaner. You have a lot of knowledge about camera gear and thank you again for taking the time to share. I will pin your comment to this video for others to learn as well. Thanks again.

@@TTMEable There is a good guide originally published by Zeiss. It also shows how to make your cleaning tips yourself. It can be found by searching for "lambda axio cleaning". Cleaning lenses looks like an easy task, but the most difficult and most important thing is keeping a clean environment nad knowing the dont's. Also when using a brush, you should hold the lens down, so that dust particles will not fall back in like at 9:06. Most lens tubes got grease/oil on the inside that will make the dust stick to it. That's good in one way, as it won't be on the lens then. However you will never get it out without completely disassembling, cleaning and regreasing.

Great points. I will be looking into the guide on tips. Thanks again. As i said in the video i still need to go into the lease again so i will be posting a follow up video. Do you mind if i mention your youtube name in the video as a reference? Also. Would a silicone grease be sufficient? I was thinking there was some kind of grease around the edges of the lease.
