Much better to do the replacement with filter housing bolted to car. If your doing a replacement without a hoist just remove the stone guard, sensor clip and screw off the housing. New filter and o-ring. Refit and bleed via handpump.
Good idea putting it remote from engine bay as you have more time to react in case of fuel contamination but very poor design by Toyota this needs a 3rd party revamp.

I agree with the hoist issue and also all the landcruiser series are very easy to replace fuel filters except 300 series....

Normaly I change my diesel filter 2 times per year in my 2015 LC200, will stay with my LC200.
