I personally don't think it's a merit/need issue. It's an issue of practicality. If young people with degrees and the support of their families are struggling to house themselves, an illegal migrant from a third world country with no education/skills suitable for an advanced economy is doomed to fail to secure independence.

That's been tried but doesn't work simply because the patrol ships are bound by international law to rescue all boats claiming to be in distress or seeking asylum. These patrols then effectively become ferries. That's why they've been conspicuously absent, however NGO boats have replaced them. Back to square 1.

I live in London and I am one of the 36% of Londoners who are ethnically English (according to the 2021 census, although this does not count illegal migration so I suspect the figure is closer to 25%). I feel like a foreigner. I am also gay, and without exception the homophobia I have experienced has been imported with arrivals from Africa and Asia, but that is another story. My neighbours do not speak English, my work colleagues clique into small ethnic groups speaking their own languages. I now barely see anyone else English. No one seems to care. This is rarely analyzed by the media and politicians seem scared to speak out. The left see this as a wonderful thing, but here am I stuck in the middle of this, keeping my head down and my moth shut while I watch my culture rapidly fade away into irrelevance. This is not a right wing attitude, it is cultural survival.
I'm also in London, so I can only sympathise with you. I became homeless in Tower Hamlets and was told by my support worker (mixed race) that I was the wrong sex and colour to get any sort of help. There is a illusion among European policy makers, that creating legislation or sending money to African countries to hold back the waves of people landing on the shores of Europe. There has to be physical force to stop and redirect the migration. Period. Everything else is supplemental like, quicker legal immigration processes or point system of skilled workforce migration. Side Note: This is an economic issue. There will always be migration if Europe is better economically than its neighboring countries. I personally don't think it's a merit/need issue. It's an issue of practicality. If young people with degrees and the support of their families are struggling to house themselves, an illegal migrant from a third world country with no education/skills suitable for an advanced economy is doomed to fail to secure independence.

First and foremost, if these guilt-ridden, bleeding hearts are all so concerned about the wellbeing of these African invaders, then why don’t they take them into their OWN homes and care for them? Alternatively, if they live in a cramped abode then why don’t they cede some of the net-income (say, perhaps, 15%) to care for these invaders?

I live in London and I am one of the 36% of Londoners who are ethnically English (according to the 2021 census, although this does not count illegal migration so I suspect the figure is closer to 25%).
I feel like a foreigner. I am also gay, and without exception the homophobia I have experienced has been imported with arrivals from Africa and Asia, but that is another story.
My neighbours do not speak English, my work colleagues clique into small ethnic groups speaking their own languages. I now barely see anyone else English.
No one seems to care. This is rarely analyzed by the media and politicians seem scared to speak out.
The left see this as a wonderful thing, but here am I stuck in the middle of this, keeping my head down and my moth shut while I watch my culture rapidly fade away into irrelevance.

I'm also in London, so I can only sympathise with you. I became homeless in Tower Hamlets and was told by my support worker (mixed race) that I was the wrong sex and colour to get any sort of help.
I've worked since I was 16, paid hundreds of thousands of £ in tax and I would only be housed and cared for once all the migrant families had been sorted.
Feeling like a stranger in your home town, is one thing, but paying for the privilege of being ignored is nauseating.

It's horrible what was done in the past. And its terrible that, for many decades West didn't care for the rest of the world beyond sending aid. What about climate justice? But two wrongs do not make on right. And if Europe fall, all that will be is hunger, crime, social war and dictatorship. I’m pro _legal_ immigration strictly controlled by the host country and obviously pro accepting *genuine* asylum seekers/refugees. There is a illusion among European policy makers, that creating legislation or sending money to African countries to hold back the waves of people landing on the shores of Europe. There has to be physical force to stop and redirect the migration. Period. Everything else is supplemental like, quicker legal immigration processes or point system of skilled workforce migration.
Side Note: This is an economic issue. There will always be migration if Europe is better economically than its neighboring countries. When Africa and other regions are thriving economically and there’s peace, that is when the intense pressure of migration will subside for Europe. We could be decades away from that reality.

Even if Europe needs to accept asylum seekers, it must rule out the possibility of citizenship to both asylum seekers and their children - born in Europe or not. This way deportation is easier when wars in their country of origin has stopped. In addition they will not be able to influence state policy through bloc voting. This is a humane approach and also keeps things from boiling over.
