Correction: Joi McMillon was the first Black woman to be *nominated* for an editing Oscar. Evelyn got a little hype!! 😂😂 Watch more episodes of Watch & Go: ua-cam.com/video/OH8p4Vw-N88/v-deo.html
Glenn Thompson Ashton Sanders should have gotten more recognition for playing teen Chiron. His mother was a drug addict and she relapse while she was filming. So, that's his scenes were so powerful. Ashton is truly a gifted actor and people should keep him on their radar. And Jharrel Jerome who played teen Kevin as well is an excellent actor.
Glenn Thompson yoooo when he picked up that chair I was low key smiling cuz I know there's been times in my life where thought people needed a chair to the face but the way my conscience is setup 😶
moonlight hit so close to home in reference of being gay and black in a hyper masculine dominated society the movie broke my heart and healed it. It gave me the world can be such a shitty place but also huged my soul and told me that everything is going to be ok.
YES GIRL. My only thing is - *Spoiler alert* - Kevin was there in the first act; he is Chiron's only friend through childhood and adolescence and they do have a connection. But Kevin is like the cool kid who is an ally to Chiron in private but must appear against him to protect his image in public.
I think they left the end of the movie in that shot because society isn't used to seeing men, especially black men, in such a vulnerable state. it was beautiful
****SPOILERS**** The best aspect of this film for me was the director treated their love as sacred. Even the scene on the beach in Act 2. The sex act between Kevin and Chiron is an allusion not gratuitous as it is in movies these days. All classy-like. Like old Hollywood. The contrast was made clearer with the "what-if" moment Chiron imagines of Kevin and the girl. Like "we could be showing you this but we're talking about real love". I think the reason the film ended on that note (them just hugging) is that it's enough for us to know that their love was real and reignited. The other thing I appreciated was the parallels from act to act. A) The person driving the car. 1-Juan 2-Kevin 3-Chiron (finally taking charge of his life and love) B) The beach (1-fatherly love, 2- romance/sexual love, 3-Self love) I have only seen this movie once and I'm sure there are many other things to draw from it. EDIT: Whoever did the casting of Trevante Rhodes (aka Chocolate Bliss... in my mind lol) and Alex Hibbert deserves an Oscar because them two look like they could be brothers or uncle/nephew. It's in their eyes.
The imagery in this film was off the proverbial chain! It was so subtle yet, powerful as if the director and screenwriters understood force wasn't necessary to get the viewer to come to an understanding of what they were trying to say. I appreciated that this film didn't indulge in heavy handedness and would love to see more of the directors work.
I loved it, I was just kinda hurt by the end lol. Like I wanted to know what happened but I guess we'll have to just imagine for ourselves...or maybe they might give us a Moonlight 2? I know that won't happen but I can dream, right?
MOONLIGHT WAS EVERYTHING! - Spoiler Alert - The scene when Kevin was being pressured to beat up Chiron and every time Kevin hit him he yelled "stay down Chiron" so he wouldn't have to keep beating him up because they loved each other, but Chiron kept getting up. I couldn't take it! lol
This movie though....so goooooooood. Just the slow atmospheric shots, the sly looks, the minimal but perfect dialogue, the perfection of juan and adult chiron. yes.
Omgosh!!! Evelyn I have never seen you so hyped like this before!!! Amazing! im gonna watch just because your energy is on a whole other planet. TFS #watchandgo
omg I loved moonlight so much!! it had such a cool ~feel~ to it, like the really gentle ebb and flow of the sea? after it ended I low-key felt like driving off into the night & crying to frank ocean songs? idk man but that's the vibe I got
I loved Moonlight! It's such an important film for this era. I almost cried when it beat La La Land (out of excitement) because it literally changed everything about winning an Oscar in Hollywood. It's a beautiful film that actually portrays many social issues in the U.S., as well as showing another side of Miami. It gets us thinking and questioning rather than giving us straight answers, like other films do. I just love everything about this film, it's AMAZING! I also subscribed cuz of Evelyn :D. I love her personality!
@Antonio Yes😭😭 , but Dizzie got away, but the catch to that is he ran into a ongoing train and we dont know if he got hit or what is going to happen to him or thor (as far as jail time) !
Ok but I don't understand how you talked about my baby's ENTIRE life and didn't go in on the scene where he cracked that chair over ol boy's back! The movie was absolutely beautiful and I'm so happy I could watch you talk about it, thank you.
I loved it too! Yes there are a lot of topics at hand (homophobia, racism, class issues, DRUGS, the list could be endless); but what really struck a cord with me was...that it was also about sensitivity. Chiron is SUCH a sensitive boy! So sweet, so kind, so shy. And because he is gay and black, he is not even allowed to express this HUGE facet of his personality! (the core problematic behind racism, if you ask me). In that sense, reuniting with Kevin is so good for Chiron -both of them, I would argue -, because he can just take a breath, exhale, and just BE. I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED Moonlight, it spoke to me so much even though it wasnt supposedly directed to me (cisgendered straight brown latina here). Thats why Im saying, this was, to me, about being sensitive in a world that prizes the exact opposite. Chiron is a HSP hero, imo :) HSP=Highly Sensitive Person
MOONLIGHT IS SO IMPORTANT TO ME AND YES THIS NEEDS TO BE IN CAPS BECAUSE I STILL THINK ABOUT THIS FILM CONSTANTLY Okay, I'm just real hype. Love the review!
I watched the first couple of minutes of this vid, stopped and went to Amazon to watch Moonlight. I was already to pay for a rental, but it's in Prime y'all. Girl. It was good. The silence in places was so powerful. The eye candy (Juan and grown Chiron) 😍😍 was powerful, too. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Watching Moonlight felt like I was eating good food, being nourished in a way I did not know I needed until it happened. Growing up in Miami (where the movie is set), I saw the bullying and violence and it pained me that I did not do more. The film also opened me to deeper, reflections on "the other". It allowed me to question and relish in Blackness, beauty and queerness. I loved the film and hope to get wind of other authentic works of art that evoke the best of me like this Oscar-winning film did.
Loved it! Trevante Rhode IS #BAE when we went to go see the movie to my surprise the cast came out at the end and chatted it up and we got a live orchestra to perform the whole firm sooooooooooo yeah Moonlight with LIT😜 no pun intended
Moonlight was one of my favorite movies, hands down. It deserved all of the praise it got, it was beautifully shot, the actors were amazing and the story took me on an emotional rollercoaster. I've seen it multiple times (:
I only got around to watching it earlier this month and was in my feelings for the rest of the week. It was such a great story, told in the perfect way, I don't know that there's anything they could've done to make it a better movie and the ending was perfect because it leaves the story open, anything could happen and there was hope. I loved it
hoonestlyyyy as a person who lives in Fl I am ashamed to say I didn't watch it but ppl knew who did watch it , said it made them cry. and at that time in my life I wasn't prepared to be boohooing in amc like that mkay
I have the straightest hair ever and I can never do these many things to my hair or else it's just gets weighed down. But I absolutely love watching these watch and go's!! I have so many movies and shows on my To Watch list after school is over!!
I luved this movie. To me it is an important step in acknowledging alternate sexual lifestyles without judgement. It is important that we all live and let live. We also need to have compassion and tolerance. This movie portrayed all of the above without beating you over the head. Well directed and well acted
Literally paused this halfway thru just to go watch it cuz you convinced me. Now I've completed it & MY GAWD I neeeeeed more 🙌🏾 Trevante fiiiiiiiiiiiiiine affffff too gurl 😌 need me one a dem 👌🏾
Hey, didn't know you had this side project channel :) Also, I absolutely loved Moonlight. One of the best parts was the drug dealer, a black man, telling Chiron that it's fine for him to be gay. You don't hear that from many black men. Hell, my younger brother and I watch House of Cards and my brother made a negative comment on Kevin Spacey's character, Frank Underwood, being gay (or at least bi). I asked him why it matters and he said "I'm just saying, as a man, it bothers me." I'm sure I snapped back that someone else's sexuality has no bearing on him. A gay guy doesn't want to be with a straight guy and anyone simply being gay still has no affect on you. I think Adventure Time sang it best," I'm just YOUR problem." I'm not attracted to every man I come across, my brother isn't attracted to every woman he comes across and the exact same thing rings equally true for those in the LGBT community. Anyway, I don't truly think it bothered him fully to the core because we've watched plenty of shows with homosexuality and I will slaughter him if he has a problem with gay men but will watch Orange is the New Black with no problems. Being gay is being gay, don't try to make exceptions just because something shows homosexuality with the gender you're attracted to. You don't have to love it but the disparaging comments aren't necessary. As I said though, I don't think it honestly, completely bothered him and I'll always be there to bring him back to a more rational form of thinking should it ever divert itself :) Love everyone, damnit.
omg 7/5 yess!!! I was watching this on the plane and it abruptly ended when the plane landed right on adult Chiron's car ride from the restaurant with Kevin. Thank you so much for this review!
Moonlight had me crying in the cinema. It was so beautiful, and it hurt me to know that there are young black men going through this right now. I loved it. but I didn't realise until afterwards that Kevin was there the whole time and that's what made ne cry a little more. I think it was the betrayal that hurt me.
Products: never heard of...thanks for making me aware. What are your product thoughts? Evelyn: she's always an A+ Internet cousin, nothing but love! Enjoyed the review!
Evelyn reviewing one of my favorite movies of all time is a blessing of the highest degree. I could write a whole dissertation on why Moonlight is so great AND important AND MOTHERFUCKING ART so let me just leave a bunch of keyboard hearts because I'm supposed to be working
My local cinema was giving out postcards, which I have now framed in my home. So...yeah...I guess I happen to really like the movie, since I watched it oh just 12 times in two weeks.
I thought it was a beautiful story that at time broke my heart at times. I just wanted to steal Chirón and take him home and love him! But... don't come for me... I didn't think it was Best Oscar worthy. I think in our modern time the hype behind the content is what pushed it to win the award. I am glad to see an all Black cast film be so celebrated though. That has been so long overdue. All in all, it's a really good film.
Dani Jé Yes!! I just got caught up on it recently too. So good. I want to hate Grace but I cannot. Maybe Curly Nikki can do a Season 1-3 review of Greenleaf!
Bc I live in the middle of BFE and it was never in theaters here til after it was nominated then they reluctantly ran it for like 2 weeks w bare minimum showings that didn't work w our work schedules and we got kids. 😞
Why hasn't any reviewed the HBO series Insecure by Issa Rae? Season 2 starts July 23rd. I think Evelyn should review season 1 on her next watch and go.
OH MY GOD Evelyn, I just can't with you now!!! You could have met Trevante at school #THEmagicalblackman and...[fast forward] have #supermagicalblackbabies right now!!! The cast of the movie was just #bae on top of #bae, dark skin glowing everywhere! At the end of the movie, I was a bit confused because it was not the usual hollywood ending with fireworks everywhere. In fact there was no fireworks at all. The movie was very smooth and intimate. It showed us vulnerability where we least expect it. I think that's the reason why some people did not like it: it felt very real. I'm really glad that the cast was entirely black because it is a great way to reinforce the idea that people can relate to other people even if they don't have the same ethnicity, culture or sexuality.
I love this channel number 1. number 2 I LOVED the movie but the ending left me wanting more! LOL, i want to know what becomes of Chiron, is he really gay or just in love w/ Kevin ? and what happened to his mom lol ! I just have so many unanswered questions.
Correction: Joi McMillon was the first Black woman to be *nominated* for an editing Oscar. Evelyn got a little hype!! 😂😂

The actor that played the teenage Chiron really deserved an oscar nomination, he really want places emotionally that many young actors can't go.

Adina McCray Right. Kevin was there from that Day 1 "test of manhood" in the ball field
Yaaass!!
I love the watch & go I need more of them in my life especially with Evelyn
I subscribed cus of Evelyn lol!!!
Agreed
I think they left the end of the movie in that shot because society isn't used to seeing men, especially black men, in such a vulnerable state. it was beautiful
NATURALLY CURLY REALLY JUST READ MY MIND. HOW'D YOU KNOW I WANTED AN EVELYN AND MOONLIGHT WATCH AND GO???

Your shirt ❤️
MOONLIGHT IS SO IMPORTANT TO ME AND YES THIS NEEDS TO BE IN CAPS BECAUSE I STILL THINK ABOUT THIS FILM CONSTANTLY
Okay, I'm just real hype. Love the review!
May I just add that Naomi Harris was pretty scary in this film. She did a really good job. Better than some other actresses nominated 👀
moonlight is THE MOST beautiful and realistic retelling of coming into your sexuality as a poc , especially a black male and it's 10/10
i just love how you guys explain movies & shows so well its like a story
After this video and seeing how Evyelyn was so hyped over it I NEED to watch Moonlight! Evyelyn is literally my favorite naturally curly girl 😂❤️
Watching Moonlight felt like I was eating good food, being nourished in a way I did not know I needed until it happened. Growing up in Miami (where the movie is set), I saw the bullying and violence and it pained me that I did not do more. The film also opened me to deeper, reflections on "the other". You're amazing Evelyn!! Love your video's!

omg 7/5 yess!!! I was watching this on the plane and it abruptly ended when the plane landed right on adult Chiron's car ride from the restaurant with Kevin. Thank you so much for this review!
When I tell you that I preordered "Moonlight" IH👏🏾MEE👏🏾JIT👏🏾LEE👏🏾 after seeing it in the theater... WHEW.
Moonlight had me crying in the cinema. It was so beautiful, and it hurt me to know that there are young black men going through this right now. I loved it. but I didn't realise until afterwards that Kevin was there the whole time and that's what made ne cry a little more. I think it was the betrayal that hurt me.
Sade is life 😍
I love your personality !
ALSO Trevante Rhodes is my actual husband. Just to break it to you gently.
I love watch and go's. Yay.
My local cinema was giving out postcards, which I have now framed in my home. So...yeah...I guess I happen to really like the movie, since I watched it oh just 12 times in two weeks.
I am pretty positive that moonlight was probably one of the best movies I've ever seen you ever seen go watch it
I swear to god i loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee evelyn !!!!!!!
Please tell me where you got that sade shirt from. I want to buy it.
yes this was everything i wanted.
SUCH A GREAT FILM! But seriously why did it end at all? I want to know more, ALL about Chiron! Please live happily ever after with Kevin
I love her so much 😊
Do u guys watch Greenleaf? I'm super late but all caught up. i would love to hear your thoughts. Im so mixed about it.
Dani Jé Yes!! I just got caught up on it recently too. So good. I want to hate Grace but I cannot. Maybe Curly Nikki can do a Season 1-3 review of Greenleaf!
never saw the movie but I LOVE the Inahasi Line...lol
I love this girl soo much. I want to be her friend.
love your reviews!
Omg I love her!!😂😍
Evelyn you're the best
Just wanna point out that we actually met Kevin in the first act. He was the one who talked to Chiron while everyone was playing soccer.
Bc I live in the middle of BFE and it was never in theaters here til after it was nominated then they reluctantly ran it for like 2 weeks w bare minimum showings that didn't work w our work schedules and we got kids. 😞
fckn luhhh you gurl! cant wait for your Dallas meet up!! 😁😆
Why hasn't any reviewed the HBO series Insecure by Issa Rae? Season 2 starts July 23rd. I think Evelyn should review season 1 on her next watch and go.
please post more watch and gos there lit
I love these vids so much! #postmore
Moonlight was amazing
Go to love that girl 💖💙
I went to the same high school with Trevante Rhodes......HE'S BEEN FINE ALL HIS LIFEEEE!!
I enjoyed the film!!
The most beautiful, sad, uplifting, sexy, romantic movie I've seen since a Steven McQueen joint. That damn diner scene tho!!!😍😍😍😍😍

I love this channel number 1. number 2 I LOVED the movie but the ending left me wanting more! LOL, i want to know what becomes of Chiron, is he really gay or just in love w/ Kevin ? and what happened to his mom lol ! I just have so many unanswered questions.
