I love Chewing Gum. The characters are so well rounded and relatable. Tracy kills me with her ignorance. This show dives deep into so many issues while still maintaining the lighthearted approach.
There isn't going to be a seaosn 3. The actress had been offered a multi million dollor netflix show that she is creating and therefore couldn't do both.
The ONLY thing I dislike about Chewing Gum is that each series/season is SO DAMN SHORT!!!!!! I want (read: need) this show made into a movie, a Broadway play, a Telenovela, i don't care - just give me moreeeeeeeee
It's always weird when I see that the show has episodes that are only like 25 minutes long a piece. smh That don't make no sense in this modern era...sigh...I need a full hour of these shenanigans. It's just too good not to be stretched!
The reason why there are so little episodes is because the main actor 'Tracy' is also the producer of the show. She said it in an interview that she works alone and comes up with the script and everything else. She tried collaborating with someone and it didn't work, so she went back to doing it solo. I admire her work ethic, can't be easy doing it alone.

It's so good to see a woman of color (a black one!) have a successful comedy show that's gross as you said, like that type of humor is so attributed to cishet white boys and I'm 1000% here for WoC taking over. 10/10 would recommend this show to others

Off topic: I went to the ZUVAA pop up shop in ATL last weekend and picked up the most ingenious thing. it's a head wrap, but it looks like a bonnet with two arms. it's so easy & cute.
The song caught my ear from the initial episode and I assumed it was Estelle singing, but then learned it was Michela! Even more impressed with/by this amazing sister.
She's a modern day renaissance woman. It's nice too that she doesn't seem to take herself too serious either. Most folks with her talent would be extra and a bit conceited, but she's so down to earth when you watch her Instagram stories it's cool.

Just like you said, I binged the show in one Sunday evening. Seasons 1 & 2. The show is both hilarious and disturbing. There are moments that I had to pause the show or simply look away but then I would go back and watch it with my eyes wide open. You really have to take a deep breath and experience every incredibly awkward, sad and crazy funny moment of this show. I loved it!

I love Tracy's quirky energy and I need to know where she gets her sweatshirts from!

And since I too am black, Nigerian and have a conservative parent (on a lesser degree tbh if that makes sense lol) so I can very much relate to her situation. The thing that's so funny is how the hell does she have it so bad all the time 😂 I honestly wonder what they're gonna do for season 3, cuz yeah, it's pretty short. And I shaved my head bald, but I rub coconut oil on my head 👍🏾👍🏾

I’m a huge fan of everything Michaela Coel, and within the first 10 minutes of Chewing Gum I knew it was a one a kind show; mid way through the first season and I found it be comedic brilliance. Incredibly funny and original, very brave and honest, cringeworthy and uncomfortable comedy in all the best ways 😂🤣 Just loved it. Especially all the religious stuff (I grew up in a overly religious household too and could relate a lot). When the Mom is telling the female amputee that God will grow her leg back, and the sister is doing the little maraca shakes punctuating her Mom’s words with a completely serious expression, I laughed so hard I made my stomach hurt. It was so funny to me because for one it reminded me so much of my own parents and experiences within a hyper-zealous religious household. Miss this show a lot. It wasn’t for everyone though. Takes a particular kind of person with a particular sense of humor to understand, enjoy and appreciate its’ specific comedic brilliance, but I thought it was outstanding. One of the funniest shows to come along in quite a while. Miss it a lot. Although I understand that it was very exhausting for Michaela because she wrote every single word of every single episode herself, and instructed and crafted each of the characters and the settings from her own life and personal experiences. Which is why the seasons were so short. Ms. Coel’s new show “I May Destroy You” is also brilliant, albeit not a comedy.

Black To Grace it's because overall Americans don't get exposure to what other countries look like demographically at all. We just only talk about ourselves. And black people tend to have not traveled internationally and it's a lot of reasons for that. Again the only time we see anything from the U.K. on the news or in movies it's a Caucasian. So 🤷🏽♀️

Trust! Brits have literally been saying this for tiiiiimmmmmeeeee but yet and still, every time someone gets cast in an American show as a "British" person they insist that this ridiculously uptight accent is used. Downtown abbey is a fictional period drama. Its set in the past. But also there are some subtle differences between the accents used on that show. I feel like only British people can hear the difference. And yes there are black people here. Britain is not really as racially sensitive as America in my opinion. Thats not to say there aren't any people who have racist views but its just not as much of an issue in the bigger cities. Depends though, some areas make you feel like you're in a different country altogether

Trust! Brits have literally been saying this for tiiiiimmmmmeeeee but yet and still, every time someone gets cast in an American show as a "British" person they insist that this ridiculously uptight accent is used. Downtown abbey is a fictional period drama. Its set in the past. But also there are some subtle differences between the accents used on that show. I feel like only British people can hear the difference. And yes there are black people here. Britain is not really as racially sensitive as America in my opinion. Thats not to say there aren't any people who have racist views but its just not as much of an issue in the bigger cities. Depends though, some areas make you feel like you're in a different country altogether

Just stumbled across your channel with this video. I have got to say, do not disrespect pineapple express.That movie was pure genius (if you watched it high). A lot of terrible movies have that description, but pineapple express was great because it captured the pothead's train of thought. I haven't smoked weed in half a decade, but watching that movie reminds me of what I was like back then.

you should watch the handmaids tale. im addicted to it. its crazy. as for chewing gum when i first watched it i went aroind yellong everyone else yo watch it. and i think it wasnt so cringy for me because i watch alot of ( i guess) british shows, so i was ok with it but i did give a bit of a disclaimer when suggesting it to friends and family. ob and Evelyn you're the freaking best.

I stumbled upon 'Chewing Gum' last year and I binged and and cringed my way through it. The show is soooo funny. I have a wacky sense of humor and the crudeness just makes me laugh harder.
"Lovably problematic." is the best way to describe it. I spent the whole show shouting, "Tracy what are you doing?! Lol!!"
