Arrived in SRI LANKA? Go South by highway bus or train. It can be easy (and cheap)

BUS 187
Bus 187 brings you from Katunyake airpot Negombo to Colombo fort where you can take a train or highway bus to your next destination.
Actually, you can better take a tuktuk which is easier when you are carring a lot of luggages. But for the experience, you have to travel with a local bus for at least half an hour somewhere in your traveling, Great experience and you can't travel cheaper than this.
Go South directly!
We ended up in a place where was littarly nothing! Not even one coffee shop, and yes we are spoiled.
The biggest challenge was to get a ride out of that place. We even tried to hitchhike.. without success. Luckily a bus eventlly stopped and we hopped on.
The highway bus is the best option.
The higway bus brings you quick and comfortable to Matara and from there it is just 30 minutes on the local bus to Weligama.
And take this bus because it wil imidiatly let you know how dangerous the Sri Lankan busses are! They drive like there is no tomorrow, but you wil expiernece this later on.
We settled in Weligama,
Scooter is arranged, we have an accommodation for a longer period so now it's time to explore the area. At least that was the plan until we got stopped by the police.
Nope no exploring yet.. first we have to go back to Colombo to arrange a driving permit!
But that we keep for the next episode.

Bus drivers the terror on the roads of Sri Lanka 🙄🤔
Yes with the 4 weeks we stayed in this beautiful country, the buses were a big frustration! Incredible how this can go on.
Sri Lanka deserves a decent regulated wel organized public transport.

Yup. It’s road mafia. Honestly I’m terrified of driving in SL. And the feeling 😱 🥶😰if I see a bus in the side mirror.
