1. Be more consistent, find the opponent's Consistency Limit 2. Find their weakness, what shots do they struggle with 3. Approach the net on short balls, use the approach shot as a "setup" shot
90% of kids (and adults) don’t understand that if you just get the ball back with medium pace and medium depth over and over again you can win almost every casual match
Great . It's always good to be reminded of the basics. Most players are creatures of habit. I notice most pros try to out rally Fed and Rafa. It rarely works. Unless your Fed on a good day or Djokovic when he's focused it's hard to out rally Rafa. I look back to the French when Robin Soldering upset Rafa it was cause he kept constant pressure w deep shots and coming forward. Then Dustin Brown upset Rafa at Wimbledon by never hitting same shot twice and smacking winners on serve , volleys hard groundstrokes and dinks and swating Rafa's second serves for winners. That unpredictability was the blueprint for giving Rafa trouble as he had no idea what was coming next . It's really cool to see how tactics can work on anybody.
Where wisdom , patience , and common sense prevail , there's Simon , demonstrating his victory dance and all one has to do is just follow the steps , no music is needed . Thank you sir .
This is the best advice for any level. I used these tactics and was able to qualify and win the Barcelona clay championships. Keep it simple, this is also ur key to victory.
" Don't feel like you are a hero and go for a backhand drive" I love this line Simon..Even if i have a far better slice backhand than my topspin drive backhand, sometimes i am tempted to do that because i feel like i am federer when i excuted it properly..Lol...😄
Great video! It would be fantastic to see more strategy videos focusing on how to play different styles of opponents like pushers, net rushers and big servers, consistent baseliners, moonballers etc
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial well, since you've asked, I personally have a very hard time hitting strokes against very slow balls some of my adversaries hit me with. They almost don't weigh anything and I often hit it at the net or too hard and it goes wide. I can't seem to find the right technique to strike these kinds of balls.
First, I just want to say it's always inspiring to watch the way you strike the ball and move into position to hit the ball. When it comes to outlasting the opponent with consistency, I guess that seems a bit like pushing and waiting for them to make a mistake. My instincts tend to be more aggressive than that, which is probably why I lose more matches than I win!
I think this is not the same. You can let the opponent move with for example a lot of crosscourt, so in this case you can play aggressive but you Play it higher over the net and Not with 100% speed. So you Play this Balls consistently but not just back. And also a lot of your opponents do not have the fitness to run 1:30 hours a lot from left to right. I hope you understand what I mean because my english is not so good✌🏻😄
@ED - You can play aggressive tennis but high percentage. Going crosscourt for example instead of down the line, hitting heavy topspin with a good margin over the net instead of low and flat. Attacking short balls but using them like an approach shot instead of killing them. Serve set plays but using high percentage options.
Excellent. Really. The first strategy for players of my level works very well. You nailed it: in a match, no reason to play hero. I just go with the strokes I do best. Might be a bit boring but if it’s an « official match » well...the purpose is to win right so no need for beautiful shots. I realise that most players don’t like it at all at my level once they have to hit the ball more than 4 or maybe 5 times in a row. They will try to go for a winner even if there is no reason at all to go for it. Strategy 2 and especially 3 are great once you feel more confident. The great advantage of 2 and 3 is that you can save more energy. It’s probably the only downside of the first strategy imo: the match can be rather long and you better have a good level of fitness with that one. I had a match against a guy and both of us were using that strategy. It was super long and I ended up losing only because my level of fitness was not as good as his. I was not confident enough to attack more by then. But yeah, you really made a great summary. Combining them all should work very well!

Hi Here are our serve lessons on UA-cam - ua-cam.com/play/PLJP-Wou-v6z3GzxDNn8ASj4qDSIgyaHPXEnjoy.html and let us know if you have any other questionsAll the best Simon
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial thank you for asking, that is very kind of you. Yes, everything!! How to accelerate more to obtain more ball speed - very slow motion! And also, how to take the ball early - very slow motion as well. Slow motion really enables us to clearly see how to hit the ball. Thank you so much!
What do you think is better long term, swinging at 70% where you can make 30 balls, or swinging at 90-100% where you put massive spin on the ball but easier to misshit the ball, some say its better to swing slower where u can make ton of balls and work ur way up, while others say if your goal is a high level you should work on swinging as fast as possible and work on getting better control as you hit more. Same for serve, specially 2nd serve, is it better to swing 60-70% where you dont double fault, or better to work on building a good kick where u swing 100% even tho your making double faults but ignoring the result and focusing long term?
Great lesson!! In the end, keeping the fundamentals (keeping the ball in play for long time) stronger is always the best way to go forward :-) Btw do you have any lessons on SABR? :-P May be a fancy shot, but would nice to see your take on it!!.... Also, your insights on chip and charge.. Cheers
Your first point goes against my style of play. I like to take the initiative early on in the point so that I have the upper hand and I am more likely to win the point. If I don't do that, then my opponent will hit faster shots and put me on the edge. If I remember correctly, that is how Federer plays his matches: by taking risks and playing aggressively. Do you think I should maybe change my style of play?
If that style works for you, then stick to it. This is more a general guide for players to watch, not specific to one particular style of player. Thank you for watching Are there any lesson you would like to see in the near future? All the best Simon
Top Tennis Training - Pro Tennis Lessons Thank you for your advice. A lesson I would like to see in the future is how to aggressively return high bouncing balls (particularly on the backhand side)
Really Simone I need more videos on this tactic and winning more matches subject hope you'll make several more vidoes by breakdown some atp players tactic
great job like usual! I always talk to my students about the importance on being consistent! . The stats (0/4 shots 70% average..) ,does not work for beginners/intermediate levels! ,even advanced! .They tend to rush, and making too many errors trying to end the points quick! Any thoughts!?
I agree, the 0/4 is for pro level players, especially the ATP tour players. Club players of all levels could win most matches simply by being consistent and hitting good quality shots
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial I think most of us dont have a problem winning these matches... in my opinion it is just boring af. for example if you play a tournament and then play against one of these it isnt really worth the time (because most of the tournaments and normal games start early: arround 9 am). you go to bed early, you wake up early you drive there only to play against a moonballer. yeah well great i win and i get the points but at what cost? I wasted half a day or more (if the tournament is further away) just to have a boring tennis match. And in the end having fun while playing is important too.
@@jakobn1032 Come on! Let's face it, it's not the issue of waking up early or something.Let's accept it, moonballers are not easy to beat if you dont know the tactics for them.Moonballers are tough, they are mentally strong. They destroy their opponent mentally. And when their opponent got pissed off of their playing style, then that's what they're waiting for..Remember, in tennis, if you Got frustrated, you are playing not only with your opponent but also yourself as well...

@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial thanks for the quick reply, I am testing it and couldn't find the string tension to suit my game best. Coach Simon I have a problem but I do not think that any other tennis player in this world has this mistake.Because it is too strange. On every ball,(short, deep, fast, slow, topspin, backspin) I cannot be in the right position.Sometimes I am too close to the ball, sometimes I am far away from the ball. I cannot guess how will the ball come to me after the bounce (So I cannot have a rally.) Is there any solution for this problem?
Many players have the same issue Arda. You need to work on your footwork along with tracking the ball properly. I'd advise to hire a coach and get them to do ball tracking drills with them plus coordination training. Ball catching drills, moving out to catch a wide forehand for instance and then recover. With time, it's an easy problem to correct, if you get the right coach
Simon, “overlooked” is like saying “underrated” right? In a way like going with your eyes too quickly over the letters rather than understanding what you read. Also how can I play against a heavy spin and powerful moon ball? Topspin and pace makes a too fast bounce
Yes, similar. What I meant was that many players don't understand the importance of being consistent and look past it. Here is a video on dealing with those high balls - ua-cam.com/video/sJ63cneHKTQ/v-deo.html
I play a passive, slower game from the baseline but lack pace. I'm hoping to get consistent. How can I get control of the point but not go to the net? Hitting harder is not an option until my ability to weight lift gets higher.
Variety should be your best friend. High moonballs, low slices, normal shots etc All mixed up in points to throw the opponent off and get them moving. Thanks for watching Any lessons you'd like to see from us in 2020? All the best Simon
The VIP section consists of lessons that are purely for VIP members, we have some free lessons on UA-cam that then have a follow up lesson inside the VIP section. Inside the VIP we cover all topics from tactics to technique to footwork to fitness. Our courses are specific to one topic but we go into great depth. For example, our Serve Revolution course is all about the serve but we have over 50 lessons on all aspects of the serve including pronation, the leg drive, serve stances, the ball toss etc VIPs also get discounts on tennis holidays and clinics with us and the highest end of VIPs get personal coaching via skype calls etc
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial thanks for responding. I noticed that the 79.00 package says that I get to, "Choose 1 Free Monthly Course". What does that mean? Don't all VIPs get access to all courses?
VIP starter gets you access to the VIP only content, the lessons I've spoken about above. The VIP advanced is the same as the starter but with one free course per month. Full details here - www.top-tennis-training.com/vip-area/
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial I feel like I completely understand that. Is there different content that displays on the page once you sign up and purchase an Advanced package? Where is this "one free course per month" or are there courses not displayed that are available once I sign up? When I click on "Courses", every single course displayed there has a link to the right of the page image that says "This course can only be purchased by VIP members". If I purchase the 29.00 Starter package, then I should have access to each course, correct? So where is the actual content that is for the VIP Advanced members (that's not available to those who are Starters)?
Great lessons! Thank you so much Simon and pls help me with this. I consider myself quite a fast learner. I started tennis 1.5 years ago and dominate all other friends at same level of training. But every time I play against a first met player, I just cant handle their balls and feel like Im someone else. Any tip to fix this?
Thanks for watching Pham You just need to continue playing against those type of players and adapt to them. Try to find some stronger training partners, training only with players you defeat is not good.
I don't have one and don't know where I'd rank now but at my best when I was competing, I was beating players ranked 500-600 ATP so they would be around 15 I believe, Federer's 16 so I'd say around 15 I would have been. Now I'm much worse so would be around 13-14 probably
What quality is the most important to develop if you could after consistency? Consistency alone won't always equal more wins. Variety, pace, and strategy are also important. So which one of those (or another factor) is the second most important quality? What if our coach discourages net play and to just baseline bash?
If my coach didn't allow me or encourage me to get to net, I'd really wonder what was wrong with them. Probably get a new coach myself. Strategy would be next after consistency IMO Thanks for watching Any lessons you want to see from us in 2020? All the best Simon
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial That makes sense, I've been trying to learn strategy in my own time. It's still only half baked and the coach is not teaching me any. It's not serve plus one but it will win rallies if I can grind the point out. Mental toughness and getting into better tennis shape are what I would be looking for at the moment. Though perfecting strategy is important too. It's mostly a question on getting my arms stronger in the area of getting in shape.
Hey Simon do you sometimes think that even top 20 tennis players are too much creatures of habit. They seem to stick to a game plan that is almost sure to lose as if OK I'm just gonna try to look decent but don't care if I lose. For instance they know they're gonna lose if they try to out rally Rafa or Djokovic for example but they keep staying back hoping for a different result instead of being totally unpredictable like Dustin Brown did to Rafa at Wimbledon a few years back. The only player at that level who really can or works on drastic changes to his game is Fed.
I think some are for sure, however, many will try different things in the match but if they don't work on it enough in training they won't be able to pull it off under match pressure
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial interestingly you would think top level players would spend more time honing tactics they could pull outta their trick bag to use on players like Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. It's like a football team preparing to play another team knowing they will have to implement new tactics to have a chance. You would think their coaches would tell them OK I know you know how to hit a forehand by now but if you keep playing him the same old way your getting the same result.

Yup great point don't overhit
This is more a general guide for players to watch, not specific to one particular style of player.

great job like usual!

„ or he make moonballs“ no please no 😅
Don't like playing moonballers?
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial no I hate them
You shouldn't hate them, if you know how to deal with them, it becomes quite straightforward to defeat
It seems like identifying your opponents weakness could be a separate video, as this is pretty complicated task.
For sure Jeff.

With high balls I just try to keep good depth and topsin, what other tactics are there?

Coach Simon I have a problem but I do not think that any other tennis player in this world has this mistake.Because it is too strange.
On every ball,(short, deep, fast, slow, topspin, backspin) I cannot be in the right position.Sometimes I am too close to the ball, sometimes I am far away from the ball. I cannot guess how will the ball come to me after the bounce (So I cannot have a rally.)
Is there any solution for this problem?
Many players have the same issue Arda.
You need to work on your footwork along with tracking the ball properly.
I'd advise to hire a coach and get them to do ball tracking drills with them plus coordination training.
Ball catching drills, moving out to catch a wide forehand for instance and then recover.
With time, it's an easy problem to correct, if you get the right coach
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial thanks
Simon, “overlooked” is like saying “underrated” right? In a way like going with your eyes too quickly over the letters rather than understanding what you read. Also how can I play against a heavy spin and powerful moon ball? Topspin and pace makes a too fast bounce

3.5 on my best day
Lol, No, you're kidding, maybe you are 5.5 or 6.0. I have seen you playing with proffesional doubles player and your good

I play a passive, slower game from the baseline but lack pace. I'm hoping to get consistent. How can I get control of the point but not go to the net? Hitting harder is not an option until my ability to weight lift gets higher.

What's the differences between "courses" and the "VIP Content" on the website?
The VIP section consists of lessons that are purely for VIP members, we have some free lessons on UA-cam that then have a follow up lesson inside the VIP section. Inside the VIP we cover all topics from tactics to technique to footwork to fitness.
Our courses are specific to one topic but we go into great depth.
For example, our Serve Revolution course is all about the serve but we have over 50 lessons on all aspects of the serve including pronation, the leg drive, serve stances, the ball toss etc
VIPs also get discounts on tennis holidays and clinics with us and the highest end of VIPs get personal coaching via skype calls etc
You just need to continue playing against those type of players and adapt to them.
Try to find some stronger training partners, training only with players you defeat is not good.
How to return serve efficiently using one handed back hand im struggling a lot pls help me
what is your UTR?
I don't have one and don't know where I'd rank now but at my best when I was competing, I was beating players ranked 500-600 ATP so they would be around 15 I believe, Federer's 16 so I'd say around 15 I would have been. Now I'm much worse so would be around 13-14 probably
Universal tennis rating
What should I do if my base shot is out from coat, every base shot please answer my questions
Base shot? Coat? Wth
Strategy would be next after consistency IMO

@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial That makes sense, I've been trying to learn strategy in my own time. It's still only half baked and the coach is not teaching me any. It's not serve plus one but it will win rallies if I can grind the point out.
Mental toughness and getting into better tennis shape are what I would be looking for at the moment. Though perfecting strategy is important too. It's mostly a question on getting my arms stronger in the area of getting in shape.
And if you are not able to keep the ball in play ... To put it simple: your level is not enough to win anyway.
Exactly, any other tactics won't work if you can keep the ball in play, time and time again.
The foundation of tennis, yet so overlooked.
Great example of this tactic. The Dimitrov 5x4 Djokovic and the Dimitrov 5x6 Djokovic at 1:28.

What do I do against someone who literally ONLY slices the ball
