I love how in Bungou stray dogs there are all of these complicated abilities, and then there is also abilities like, "I am immune to lemon shaped bombs."
Asagiri was actually so crazy for that. "Hey guys here's this guy he's Motojiro and is actually fucking insane also he's immune lemon-shaped bombs and we're gonna introduce him along with the most girl boss scene that's going to be forgotten instantly yeah he doesn't really matter" like bro what!?
bsd lover here, read and watched all things BSD. The BSD powersystem is really balanced surprisingly. There isn't a 100% strongest guy who is unbeatable (Except for one but its spoilers) because every ability has a counter. A weak guy can beat the world's strongest just because of them having an ability that could counter them. If you are looking for an anime with a great powersystem BSD is the one. If you are looking for a GREATLY written series, read the manga or LN instead. The anime skips too many important character development scenes that is crucial to understanding a character. Overall i would recommend to anyone who likes seinen
Completely agree, the anime focuses way too much on the fights and blows so much of the budget on the fights, and they left out so much. Currently bones studios biggest hater because of that. I don't have access to the light novels or manga, but what i do have access to of them, it's so amazingly written and I'm so sad that the anime didn't really show how beautiful bsd really was originally.
The abilities in this series are SO interesting because they all represent a prominent part of the character they belong to. Atsushi, a sensitive, soft character, having the ability of a strong tiger represents how truly strong PTSD survivors are at their core, even if they don’t look like it. Chuuya‘s ability being able to control gravity is representative of how he’s always been a strong, reliable force to keep his loved ones grounded, despite himself feeling far away and/or unstable deep down. Dazai’s ability is especially interesting, because, when you think about it, abilities are what make these characters who they are and what shape their identity. Dazai’s identity strips others of their identities. I think this is a metaphor for how he’s never truly been a person of his own, and has always relied on being able to feed off of others to form a personality, despite always ending up empty after he’s done consuming the life of those around him. You can see how he changes himself to fit whatever environment he’s in, but will occasionally slip up and let the hollowness he keeps within himself become visible, and you can see it stays the same throughout all of his eras. Genuinely, the BSD magic system mixed with the themes of psychology and mental health are GENUIS. The idea that all these characters who are unique and deeply human individuals have had their identities (in the form of abilites) decided for them the moment that they were born, and the way that we can see how it warps them as people. The way that most of these characters would be COMPLETELY different if they hadn’t been born with the abilites that they were born with, and never chose to have.
I never really thought about how the abilities relate to the actual book names, the way you talked about dazai ability really makes me think about it though
I love BSD. The creativity of the fandom is insane. You can just go to any BSD amv and it's peak. I love that the characters are named based off actual poets and the abilities named based off the poet's actual famous works. And, if you like JJK, it's got that feel to it. Dazai is a lot like Gojo. Same VA in dub too. Yosano is basically a cross between Nobara and Maki. And, Kunikida is a lot like Nanami. It's only issue are fake out deaths so if that's not your thing, be prepared. Chuuya supremacy! Anyways, W video. It's definitely true BSD is criminally underrated and underrepresented.
