⭐️In this video, Mike takes you on a tour of an impressive HO-scale layout!
This model railroad train display showcases the talents of members of the Ozarks Model Railroad Association and features operations of the Frisco Railway, Burlington Northern Railroad, and BNSF Railway. The layout has been under construction for at least the last 30 years and is one of the largest model railroad displays in the region.

Nice update, Mike! Glad Walthers was able to make things right after the mixup.
Thank you, Randall! They definitely took care of it and I’m glad to have them back! -Mike
Happy to see your layout coming along so quickly! I still haven't put any track down yet
Good to hear that Walther took go care of you. Good customer service is hard to find these days
I definitely have some nights that are more productive than others! Haha. But, it always feels good to make some headway.
I’ve always enjoyed the Walthers items I’ve purchased, but this was the first direct dealing I’ve had with them. It’s really good to know they stand behind their products. -Mike
Looks going to town new layout of mkt railroad I love the progress congratulations Mike I hope see someday buddy
Hi, Taylor! Thank you! We are getting there slowly but surely. Building benchwork is fun and all, but I feel like it’s actually the beginnings of a layout now that I can actually run a train! Ha. -Mike
@@MainTrack exactly I remember when add more on my layout it flet good switch them or keep cars going on the layout lately been waiting get get going my love school work my degree working teacher and coach taken a lot of time way model trains I still do my photography and modeling it's a lot of my soft put back burner
Mike, Great update! Looking forward to the progress as time goes on. I have an Aunt and Uncle who actually live in Clinton and I remember visiting them back in the day and seeing glimpses of the MKT. I need to make a trip back down there and visit them and check things out. Keep up the great modeling!
Hi there! Clinton is a pretty cool little town with a lot of neat railroad history. Granted, the train activity is just a shadow of what once was, but at least things are still active. I appreciate you staying tuned as we make progress! -Mike
Good looking switchers!
Thank you…I agree- decoder problems aside, Walthers did a good job with the shell and details on these units! -Mike
What a beautiful model 👍
Hello! I agree…mechanical hiccups aside, Walthers did a great job with the details on these units. We’ve been needing some more good switchers for a while now! -Mike
Hi Main Track Train & it's is Randy and i like yours video is Cool & Thanks Main Track Trains & Friends Randy
Hi there, Randy! I appreciate you watching, friend! -Mike
Hey Mike , glad you got your SW's back even if it was the long way home... hopefully these units will operate fine over the long haul... so look forward to your updates.. till next time Tc.
So far so good with the switchers! I think I have even more of appreciation for them after that whole issue. Haha. But, Walthers took care of me. I’ll have plenty of work for them on the layout, so fingers crossed they keep running perfectly! -Mike
Love the layout. I just started modeling to the MKT.
I appreciate that! The Katy was certainly a very colorful and unique railroad. It makes for a great modeling subject- but I’m obviously a little biased! Ha. Thanks for staying tuned as we make progress on the layout. -Mike
Superb ..... I like simple😊
Hello! Thanks for watching. Yes, I learned long ago to not try and cram too much stuff into a layout. Some of the best layouts I’ve seen have plain rural stretches to give the sense of wide open running. I’m hoping to capture the same feel here. -Mike
Real nice
Thank you…I appreciate you watching! -Mike
Nice video, looking forward to the next one. BTW have you done any MKT SD40-2s?
Hello! I appreciate you watching! I don’t have any of Katy SD40-2s on the layout (although I do have some old Athearn blue box ones from the 90s packed away). I believe I read Scaletrains was doing a special limited run of Katy SD40-2s at some point, but I’m not sure where that project stands. I’ll keep my eyes out! -Mike
Thank you for the update Mike. Excited to see more of your progress.
Thank you! I sure appreciate you tuning in to watch the progress. -Mike
Looking good Mike keep up the great work can't wait to see more
Thanks so much, Andrew! -Mike
Another update! 😁You have quickly become a favorite to watch and a big inspiration to finally finish my HO Scale layout.
Hi, Scott! I sure appreciate you tuning in to watch the progress. I’m glad to hear you’ve been inspired to work on your layout. It’s easy for life to get busy and motivation to come and go. But, it always feels really good to make some headway! -Mike
Hope these have truly been fixed, if not, we all know what will happens….
Can’t wait to see this new layout design!
Hi, Devin! Yes…good so far with the switchers. Granted, I haven’t put them to heavy work just yet! Haha. How have yours been holding up since you got yours back from repairs? -Mike
So far, so good! Time will only tell the truth!
Hay Mike , I still love the SW1200's . I sure wish they came in N scale . Maybe some day . Will you be at the Springfield show June 15th ? Would like to meet you eye ball to eye ball , sort of . 😁
Hey there! Yes, N scale guys need some of these as well! As an HO guy, I don’t keep up with the N offerings out there. Have manufacturers been cranking out any new Katy units for N like they have HO? I will definitely be there on the 15th. Be sure to say howdy if you see me…it would be cool to meet! -Mike
I saw some of missouri and northern arkansas railroad dash9 locomotives deisel GE
Hi, Ethan! That’s cool! They are pretty cool units. They make this old Katy line seem a little less old fashioned. But, times do change! -Mike
Excellent news enjoy your updates and your channel maybe one day we can get some chop nose units produced look good running with those SW’s
Thanks- I appreciate that! I’m hoping along the same lines as you…some chose nose Geeps would be awesome. The way the manufacturers are cranking out Katy offerings these days, I would hope that day is coming! -Mike
Appreciate the update. So those locomotives are in a dead mail facility somewhere! Those wide cabs just don't look right in Clinton, but I guess I'm just showing my age...
Hi, Dan! Totally agreed. It’s funny how those look so modern to my eye…I was surprised to do the math and figure out those units are already a quarter-century old! Ha! I remember when BNSF added this make/model to the roster and they were brand new. Doesn’t seem that long ago! lol. -Mike
And, Lord only knows where those switchers ended up! Nice to know Walthers customer accounts remain active for that many years! Ha.
Minor correction: an SD40-2 can't be nearly 60 years old, unless it was originally an SD40 that was upgraded with dash-2 equipment. The first SD40-2s were built only 52 years ago, in 1972.
Hi there! You are absolutely right about the original SD40-2s. I checked back to my roster notes, and it looks like most of the SD40M-2s MNA has were originally SD45s. I’m seeing original build dates of 1967 and 1968, which would put them at 56 and 57 years old. There was also one unit that was originally an SD40 from 1966. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with the old standard cab units now. -Mike
@@MainTrack Fair enough. They also had a bunch of original SD40-2s from 1974/5 and a couple of 1978 tunnel motors. The downside of Genesee and Wyoming buying up so many short lines is that now G&W is a large enough company for EPA emissions requirements to apply to them, so they can't keep using all those classic EMDs.
Chances are good that the USPS (if that was the shipper) will have returned the old engines back to Walthers. If the address no longer exists, the return to the sender.
Hopefully so! I last spoke with Walthers several weeks after the snafu and they hadn’t received them as a return to sender just yet. Surely they’ve made their back to them by now! -Mike
Walthers update your systems and they had to take the loss on that one. Good they gave you two new Locomotives to replace them.
Hello! I have purchased Walthers stuff for years- buildings, rolling stock, etc. But, this was my first time I communicated with them directly about an issue. I was very happy to find out they stand behind their products. So far, so good! -Mike
