- Join us as Navajo Historian, Wally Brown, shares an important lesson about thinking in this fascinating UA-cam video.
Thinking is the very first of four sacred affirmations that help us lead a balanced life. Wally explains how thinking is the essential step that comes before everything else.
It's like laying the foundation of a house before building it. He also talks about the other affirmations, which are planning, life, and hope.
Understand and use these affirmations, create a life to be proud of.

I am Siksika. The government merged us with another Tribe and calls us Blackfoot. My elders are gone to the best life. Thank you for these videos. I appreciate hearing an elder speak and sharing his wisdom again. I feel I am home again.
We share Treaty 7 land. 🙏
Thank you. ⚘
@@marianfrances4959 I had to look that up on the map - we do brother. Indeed we do!
Why did they merge one tribe with another?
@@SolidGeddoe I've never found that out. they merged the Sioux with Siksika. The US Gov Bureau of Indian Management.
This is what my mom always said educate yourself, so you think and reason for yourself.
Yes ma'am!
Unfortunately, so many remain conflicted without understanding the freedom that comes from learning. I used to be there myself.
This man is talking about thinking in a way that has almost been completely lost within our current civilization. We learn in school to think in very narrow and linear ways in a manner that is often referred to as analysis. He is talking about something else that actually incorporates what might be called intuition, which is a dirty word in modern culture.
Not being a Native Resident...I would spend hours out riding my horse in the hills around home...I would contemplate the roles in nature and how the Greater Spirit or God is guiding us. I would watch the sky for hours...I also observed the vegetation relating to the propagation of seeds. The Great Spirit will lead us. Bless you and your family!
I think your spirit is native. Indeed I do ❤️👏
Such wisdom. Thank you..
Beautiful, all races of people should learn how to live like this.❤️
We are what we've been TAUGHT. They used the EDUCATION SYSTEM to INDOCTRINATE US to THEIR way of THINKING.
That is right now we are WITNESSING just what they intend to TEACH THE INNOCENT CHILDREN
❤
only one race, the Human Race!
Hope you're doing well Wally!
Thank you, sir, for these teaching videos. At age 62 I am learning things from you that I wish my parents had known to teach me. But I am learning these things now which I can apply to the years I have left. Thank you, again.
I am taking the Paqui 1 chip challenge. I will not drink anything after I eat the spicy hot chili 🌶 on the chip....
This is a beautiful way to put it! Many blessing to you on your way!
I'm 63 and I agree.
Tobacco, please give your parents credit
@@lendavidhart9710 Stating that he wishes they had known these things does not imply any lack of respect for his parents or lack of respect for what they did know to teach him. To put that on him is your own karma
Thanks!
Thank you.
Blessings 💞🙏
Your knowledge and patience is greatly appreciated. Peace be with you and your family!
Ahéheeʼ Shane and Wally!!!!! It is interesting to me to understand how men think and their responsibilities for their families. I am a woman and we have a different way of carrying out our responsibilities for our families. Feelings and preserving the beauty of Mother Earth are also important to me as a woman. America is in upheaval right now and these teachings are important for the rebalancing of all of us.
Thank you for these very important life lessons. I am French Canadian and Italian and these teachings are lost in my generation, our family is very far apart not just geographically, but physically and mentally as well. Back in the day, families gathered every Sunday for a traditional meal and gave everyone a chance to catch up with each other. My grandfather died when I was very young, I know my life would have been different with his guidance. I pray to him and ask for guidance in my dreams.
Now, more than ever, communities need to form bonds. 🦋🦋🦋
Bring back family Sundays
EXACTLY! They have us working so hard to SUPPORT OURSELVES AND OUR FAMILIES. People have lost that SPECIAL TIME OF BONDING AS FAMILIES!
WE MUST LEARN FROM THE PAST AND TAKE WHAT WAS GOOD AND BRING IT BACK AND TAKE CONTROL OF OUR FUTURES.
Always awesomeness ❤
The world was given to us green, full of flowers and animals. We made it rather brown and grey. Colors can change. It's never too late for that.
For one tiny example... a dandelion is not a weed.
Exactly!
The dandelion has great healing and nutritional values! Yes Indeed!
@Beverly Mandeville they also fix nitrogen in the soil very good
And a crooked stick can still draw a straight line❤
Thank you for making these videos. It may feel odd to you to know that your words have reached me, in my mid 20s living half way across the world in New Zealand. Your words have reached me not only literally, but in spirit also.
This is why the internet should be used. To share knowledge, and encourage critical thinking.
I am from the Ojibwe nation in Canada, and when I watch videos of Grandfather Wally I feel like I am home, truly.
Thank God I found this channel! We are so much removed from certain cultures that when we hear about them we are surprised they still exist. The Navajo should and must continue to exist for the wealth of our human diversity. We have so much to learn from each other. LOVE AND PEACE!
A key ya hay. bless us all. praise creation eternally
I'm 67 and most the things I have learned I wish I never knew,🙏✌️❤️
Amazing how you just broke down how it is for a man in the world amazing man hands-down amazing
These lessons are so profound. I really like the the thought of north south east and west and each concept with them. Thank you for sharing the wisdom of the elders as an elder.
Blessed timing once again. Thank you, Mr Brown and family.
learning makes us better than ourselves 🙏🏾
Thank you for these videos
Thank you for sharing ✌️💞🤟
Thank *YOU* ...
Excellent advice for our men and even women. The Power of Thinking for yourself, to not be swayed, to not believe everything that you hear. The power of Faith, Hope and Revelation through and with God to help us
My soul resonated with this video. Thank you Wally for the education on this subject matter. 🙂
Thank you, Papa 💗💫🧠
My Grandmother was full blooded Navajo. When I hear anything like this, it brings such peace to my heart instantly. I’m guessing it’s a DNA thing.
Good day!
Took counseling awhile back. In speaking, I admitted: "I've no idea where I get my morals, my actions. " My upbringing was a bunch of opposite of things I value, like: the Golden Rule, the mantra of the 12 step program, the belief in Love, love of A Good Life...
The councilor, a Mennonite woman ( knowing my lineage is part indigenous) said, she" learned in her studies that indigenous peoples really do pass lessons learned through their bloodlines" ( dna? Memories?)
It helped me to try to understand myself...
At some point ( age 5) was started in bible teachings, 5th commandment? ' honor and obey parents '... was in my late 20's before I realized why going Against what parents was teaching me bothered me so?? It was this bible stuff that assumes parents, even husbands have others best interests in mind... They don't! Not always! And going Against these teachings bothered me and brought me condemnation from other religious people.
I thank The Great Spirit every time I think of these things.
I pray for 'guidance to See the right path and the sense to Take it! And I hope you're having a good day. '
And you too .🍃🕊🍃
Noitsahuman thin.. our world is controlled by anti humans trying to steal culture and ruin purity. Truth vibrates and resonates with all.
Thank you❤
Thank you native love from Oregon

My kids don't listen to me.... but they sure will listen to this!!
I really enjoy the stories and pictures from your past. Although I don't understand Navajo language, I enjoy hearing it spoken.
Gratitude 🌎
Wonderful wisdom. 🙏🏼
Love & respect to you✨💫✨
Kia Ora from Aotearoa NZ, I am Maori indigenous and I thankyou for your wisdom...
I loved to ride my horse as the sun was rising. Such a beautiful, quiet, time to think and to listen to nature. My favorite time of the day. I liked that he stated there is a lot we do not need to know. Thank you again for sharing.
Thank you Mr. Brown AND Shane...
Thank you ❤ and peace from central California 🙏
Wherin a man from a culture based in reality speaks.
Many things we do not need to know. Personal meaning and planning is so important. Thank you for speaking in your Native Language.
Strength, support, and wisdom in gratitude for Navajo teachings!
Father, I am 1/4 Comanche, I think & do as you teach also I walk the Red Road! Thank you again Father....Aho
...there's too few good old guys these days.
...Thank you and thanks for the post, absolutely appreciated.
Truly, we need more people to teach us how to think for ourselves in this day and age.
My first learnings of the Navajo Way was through the mystery writer Tony Hillerman, about Lt. Leaphorn and Sgt. Chee. Leaphorn is an old school cop trained to think in the White man's way and Sgt. Chee is younger and being trained to be a Singer (shaman) and having a difficult time of it. Hillerman works / writes about the balance of the two ways. Hillerman was recognized for his ability and respect of the Navajo Way in his stories. Much of what I learned through his stories is what led me to this channel and subscribing to it. Wisdom is learned through teacbing and experience. This Elder has all that. Thank you for your teaching.
Wise words in these days of prescribed narrative and thought policing.
Yep! Thinking kept me from taking toxins into my blood like most people did.
Spot on. 👍🏻
Thankyou to you and all our ancestors, we all are from the same Mother Earth and Father Sky, we call this Sacred Divine love- Creation.
Bless all serving the truth.
Thank you. Clean thoughts are very important. Also if one knows how to think makes it easier to understand what ones purpose on this plain is. 🕊️🤍🕯️ All praise and great glory to our father in heaven. Amen.
A husband caring for a wife and children helps the family and society.
Love to listen to the Navajo teachings, when Wally speaks in the native tongue, how the meaning comes to life through his way of pronunciation, and also the music at the end where the flute cuts off and the sound reverberates into the silence.
Thank you Grandfather, I honor your Spirit,
Thankyou💙🌌🌎🌌💙
Thank you. I wish my parents told me these thing!! I am so grateful to you!
Thanks.
You are awesome Wally thank you🙏😇💙🦜🐾🐶🌲🐣🥑🙏🔥
🔥⚔️🔥 think twice and say nothing.🏹
Your words are needed more today than ever. Many people today can’t think for themselves and follow others like sheep😕
Always great but simple wisdom. We tend to seek entertainment and professional or priestly advice when the majority of our answers are within...in that quiet place.
My mom raised me. My dad is native. Yet the ways of our people have been forgotten. I treasure this information. I am a thinking thinker 😂. I so need. This because I second guess myself
Thank you for sharing your wisdom
I just love to hear your language, My father use to speak to us in the family when I was a young lad! I lived 18 miles from Aztec N.M.!
Always wise to listen to the older generation. In your tradition elders retain the history of the people. That's why I subbed to this channel. Wisdom and common sense has all but gone from the time we are living in
For almost 50 years, I am still learning how to think 🙏
This is something I am going through right now. I am buying a car, and everyone in my family is telling me to buy this certain model, however I want to decide for myself and not to let other people decide for me. So I can learn to make my own decisions in the long run. Thanks for the video
Don't forget to heed the wisdom of those older and wiser than you. You don't have to follow their advice but listen to it and consider it.
I going to grow mescalito, and in the future I will hold a mitote. Mescalito will protect me and show me the right way to live.....
Thank You for the Navajo Traditional Teachings.
I'm not by any means indigenous, I love this guy!
I also am moving into the Grandfather stage myself. Even tho not of Native Heritage as far as I know but.....
The ways of the Dane ring True to the Path I Walk. Have Walked, and Will Continue to Walk into the Next World/Phase, however you'd like to phrase it.
Your Holy People are very Similar to my own personal Belief system, yet not the same, at the same time.
I Thank you for taking the Time to get this Knowledge into a Format that more will be able to view and hear the Oral Traditions of your Own People.
Thank you very much.
Thank you Wally! I love you and the wisdom and light you share with us. I am grateful for the teachers that are here to guide us through the darkness to see the love and light that is all around us.
Sir, thank You for sharing and teaching all these things in your videos. This wisdom is a great help to all of us.
I appreciate you and and your sharing of the traditional wisdom.
Wisdom is such a gift. Blessings
It would be great if we could get this video into public education for the US.
One is to think 🤔 the other is to feel 🧑🍼
A-Hometakyase GREAT Chief... Ometeotl, Tlazocamati Brother... ❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
I have been thinking over something I have to do at work all weekend
That is some good advice especially for a man, it's a really big shame many people grow up in this world without proper guidance and advice which an lead to many following the wrong path in early adulthood.
Check out Navajo and Tibetan Sacred Wisdom Circle of Light by Peter Gold. Very informative and correct philosophy of both cultures. I am Navajo and there are quotes from my uncle in this book.
Awwwww (1:06) 💜💜💜🤗
Thank you for this. They are beautiful truths.
I thank the Diné. They speak what they have learned and what has been taught to them. Truly, your lives are written as records written in the book of life. Live well and with honor, for the sake of your children, but not as i have lived in the past! 😊
Thinking is with what you do in life all the time
I so needed this 40 years ago, lol. Yes, finally learned to be more discerning in my fifties. I'm finding meditation to help me now, after finding some forms and guides that work for me.
(Everyone is different.)
I thank you so very MUCH, Sir!!! This is good empowering stuff. I may not have hardly any Native American in my current blood-line, but just like the singer John Denver, I KNOW i was at least very strongly INFLUENCED by the Native American people. Listen to John Denver's songs like "Sweet Surrender", and "The Eagle and the Hawk", and it becomes obvious that he either has a lot of Native American in his blood-line, he has studied Native American culture ( exhaustively!!! ), or he was Native American in his past life and was deeply influenced ( on a spiritual level ) by the Animal Kingdom. His music revealed that he was very strongly attuned and atoned to that spiritual aspect of existence. ... and again, thank you for sharing so much of your knowledge.
Thank you for your wisdom. Your great spirit sounds like my God a lot
Can we have more Dine wisdom in the world please?
Thank you for posting these videos.
Thank you for your insights.
I love your teachings and wise words. Ty so much.
Thank you 🕊🙏
I completely enjoy the wisdom of your teachings. Thank you.
