      You all can keep you big gun battleships, long ranging cruisers and speedy destroyers. Give me a cargo ship and tools and I will build my own fleet.

      Yep, and this was the main contribution from Norway during WW2.
      So many merchant fleet sailors where lost from a huge number of nations (a ton of them from Norway) trying to supply the UK, the Soviet Union and the troops at various theatres of war.
      Yet all people seem to talk about is the battle ships, airplanes, tanks and troops on the ground...

      When a plumber comes and fixes my sink, generally it's him that i give the praise to. Not the girl in the office who took the call and set up the meet or the guys in the warehhouse who shipped my supplys. People see what is in front of them. No one is taking anywhing anyway from our Merchant fleets, iF anything their bravery is even higher because they weren't getting the pat on the back like the soldier did. They were SELFLESSLY BRAVE beyond words.

    Its often overlooked the scale of lend lease to the USSR. 19,000 planes, 22,000 tanks and 100,000 6x6 Army trucks. Then there are all the war materials, such as ammo brass ( USSR had priority over even the USN) railway line, chemical and rubber tyre plant, avgas and it goes on. Liberty ships could sail straight past Japan unmolested to Vladivostok as they sailed under soviet flags and took advantage of the peace treaty between Imperial Japan and the USSR. As such vast supplies were pumped into the USSR at a critical stage of WW2. The 6x6 Army trucks were delivered overland thru Iran.

      I don't think the tank and planes are quite right, more like 8000 tanks, 30,000 and 5000 planes, but everything else you've said is true, along with Britain's convoys to Murmansk and archangel, the Russians had to move their entire industry east, and took heavy losses in 1941, so such supplies were nessiasary to keep the soviets fighting and the main German force east, rather than west.

    • @wazza33racer
      @wazza33racer 3 роки тому +3

      @@brandenburgquentinthe3rd532 some soviet industry moved east in the evacuation.......but gigantic industrial assets had already been built in the far east in the 1930's.........American engineers designed and directed construction of the gigantic Magnitorsk steel works ( a copy of the USA's largest steel plant at Gary Indiana) and the factory called Ural Vagon Zavod which was in fact an enormous tank factory later known as "Tank-o-grad". Dupont also built for the Soviets a nitric acid plant with a capacity of 10,000 tons per day, which only has a munitions application (specifically with US state department approval). The Soviets were allowed to purchase the cutting edge C-47 transport plane, and had American expertise on railroads,cement plants and other industrial improvements.

      @@brandenburgquentinthe3rd532 not counting millions of tons of railway line,munitions brass ( they had priority over the US Navy) and Avgas in large quantities. 9:10 14,000 refugees and the vessel's carrying capacity was seriously exceeded and could have capsized at any moment. Seemed odd to me so I did a little quick math; figuring 120lbs for the avg Korean of the time (and children weighing far less), 14K people = 840 tons. The Victory ships were rated to carry 10,850 tons, or nearly 13 times that weight. Maybe if the ship was empty and all of them were on the deck? Seems off...

    • @JohnCBobcat
      @JohnCBobcat 7 років тому +2

      I'd bet it's because the people would have to be on deck and in habitable areas, rather than being stuffed entirely into the holds like bulk cargo. Plus people are bulkier (i.e. more space for a given weight) and require more space than, say, pallets of ammunition or canned food.

    • @vicmclaglen1631
      @vicmclaglen1631 7 років тому +6

      That was my guess until I went further and read about it, although how they would all fit on the deck eluded me as well. SS Meredith Victory: "All through the night of December 22-23, using booms and makeshift elevators, Captain LaRue’s crew filled the five cargo holds and the entire main deck with more than 14,000 civilians...". I found no mention at all about instability, danger of capsizing, etc. This includes crew accounts. They were packed in like sardines and virtually unable to move, but the ship was in fact quite stable. The only way in which its capacity was exceeded is that it was only designed to accommodate 12 passengers.

    If you're describing AMERICAN vessels, use the AMERICAN system, NOT metrics! A HUGE DISLIKE for that arrogant mistake!

      @@shashankkolhe4111, it doesn't matter. Those were American designed and built ships and if World of Warships Official Channel
      is going to talk about them then they should use the system under which they were constructed.
