I have my call with Wheeltop scheduled for Wednesday, this week (10/04/24). I will be asking the following questions. If you have any more to add, please add by replying to this comment. Thanks:
* Android App/Font Derailleur - Some users have reported that the front derailleur cannot be fine tuned via the Android app, is this correct, and if so, is this being looked at?
* Availability in countries outside of Europe. What is causing the delay, and do you have any timescales?
* Battery levels during inactivity - What is causing the battery to drain, and is it a concern?
* Automatic Shifting - This behaviour is similar to the Shimano Semi-synchronous shifting. Is there a patent concern with that?
* Automatic Trim - This behaviour is similar to the Shimano Auto Trim. Is there a patent concern with that?
* Does Wheeltop plan to work with any wholesalers local to Europe or US?
* Any news on communication with Garmin and Wahoo?
* Replacement components - Is it possible for a user to buy replacement components? For example, if they crash and break a lever.
* Spares - Is there any date on when spares can be purchased - IE, lever hoods?
* Warrantee Claims - What is the process with this? Does the End User need to return to the retailer, or Wheeltop? If the latter, who will cover shipping costs?
I have used it since February 2024 with the full carbon version and hydraulic disc brake calipers. In a nutshell, they work perfectly so long as the calibration is spot on on my side.

Shipping this stuff from china is ecological suicidal. Do yourself a favour and buy a campagnolo super record 2016-19 groupset . Will last forever perform better , look better , serviceable…
@johnclement4781 every other big brand manufactures in China or Taiwan as well. Most of this shit is most likely coming out of the same factories as shimano or sram but they just slap a different label on it

Hi Jon, excellent on the spur presentation! I like this mini group set as i believe it also can be bought in a rim brake version and i have two bikes that it might be good for. Also have hydro bikes too! Its also great that yiu can adjust it to cover different speed set ups! As soon as your and Lukes full use reviews come out the shekels might welll be burning a hole in my pocket for a purchase! 😁😁😁 Enjoy the build and testing!
Hi Aveedub, Agreed, it is a very flexible proposition. It'll give users with older rim groupsets the option to move to electric shifting at a greatly reduced cost. Hope to get the build done soon.

I really appreciate the references to other videos/reviewers which shows the research you seem to have done, plus the amount of detail you went into.
I've also been watching all these recent EDS TX videos... and it's moved to the top of my list, for a future electronic groupset upgrade that I I've been wanting to do for a while (I've got a long term 'tennis-elbow' type condition in my left arm, and changing the FD on a cable setup, over multiple long rides, can exacerbate things)
For me the 11+12S compatibility is super important, as well as the overall value-for-money (assuming that the performance and reliability pan-out). I also like the fact that there is no seatpost battery + extra wiring, and that you can buy a 'No Brakes' option.
- I've read that (in theory) you should be able to use these WheelTop shifters with Shimano Disc Brake Calipers. If you are able to test this 'hybrid' setup, and report any suggestions for Hoses / Olives / etc, that would be really appreciated (but I do understand that's a fair bit of extra work!)

Hi Derek, Glad you enjoyed the video, and got something from it. Yes, I did as much research as I could, because as GCPerformance said in his video (Only just watched his and Lukes), this groupo is going to be disruptive, so I knew I needed to get my stuff right!
I will be doing as you say, the 'Hybrid' setup. I will attempt to install the shifters on Shimano hoses with Shimano callipers. I will also be using Shimano to fill the other gaps (Crank, cassette, and chain).

Another enjoyable video with straightforward explanations - thanks. Have yet to try electronic shifting, so maybe I am missing something. Costs have previously been prohibitive for me though.
I was in your situation back until 2021 end when I got my first electronic Ultegra groupset. Since then I never looked back. EDS TX by far is the most economical buy for me even without chainset, chain and cassette.
Hope you find the right price that will take you into the electronic realm.

If they have auto trimming I need to say- I'm ready to go wireless. Finally! R8000 used only 1 year will go to retirement (or to some gravel in the feature 😁). Auto trimming and option to 10s or 11s is a key for me. Thank you Wheeltop 👏🏼

Hi Pete, Glad you enjoyed it. To be honest, I like the simplicity of my mechanical bike. Don't get me wrong, I think my Ultegra Di2 is cool and clever, but it's an added complexity that I worry about when i first pick the bike up...... will it work! Maybe thats because I'm old!!!!!

@@n22pdf To be fair, the Ultegra has been very good. I've never been a big Sram fan, so have never owned it personally. I do like the simplicity of mechanical. Although anyone thats watched my 'Electronic Shifting - Is it worth it, and do you need it' video would say I'm an electric boy..... which isn't actually true.
Since it's chucking down rain that would perfect time I like the fact that you can set it from 7-speed all the way up to 13 that is very appealing to me
For the shifters rubber being tight just use a hair dryer to warm them up first ?

Agreed. The inflated prices of groupsets play a big part in the crazy prices we now see for a complete bike. Electric groupsets are cheaper to manufacture, so why are we paying more?
As they are being sold out of Europe (no North American presence), I suspect they'll be sued promptly as L-Twoo's offering had to remove auto-trim via firmware when their electronic group set came out and supposedly Shimano didn't go all wireless as SRAM had their patents.
Personally I'd like to buy directly from China (e.g. Panda Podium) and avoid the patents hassle and get full functionality. I also like how they sell the product by which you can choose to skip any brakes hardware which would allow you to upgrade a dedicated indoor trainer bike frame at a lower cost. On their web site they say that the disc version "MAY" work with Shimano brakes but they recommend getting their disc brakes. Both use the same brake fluid.
A simple upgrade path to a mechanical disc brakes group set would be a nice selling point. Some of the L-Twoo offerings worked well in a Shimano mix and match scenario according to Trace Velo testing. I'd like to see that tested. Their Web site says something about the olives/connectors being different on the shifters than Shimano shifters.
Others have asked how to purchase in US/UK, I’ve suggested the speak to Joe at Panda Podium.
On the brakes point, I’ll see if the Wheeltop disc calliper will work on Shimano hoses/olives, as it’ll be easier for me when installing.
I have i on my Dogma F12 with an Ekar 13 Speed cassette since december (2023). I had some minor issues over the winter but overall it is great!
Can I ask what the minor issues were? I'm looking at putting this on my winter bike.

Hi Jon again, do you know enough about the front change to determine if it can be used with a clamp on adaptor where frame does not come with a braze on fitting?? Never used an adaptor, but i suspect there could be a factor that prevents an adaptor? Cheers mate
I don't know for a fact, but I would strongly suspect that if a common derailleur (Shimano/Sram) is being successfully used with the braze-on adaptor, then in all likelihood, this will as well. Thats the best guidance I can offer.

I checked this with WheelTop and they do supply in both Braze-On and Band-On.
i use IGPsport have no issue with the sensor.
No doubt all patents were respected and it is fully original
great video and good to see other manufacturers take on the giants of Shimano/ SRAM - I think maybe some of the patent licensing have run out so other manufacturers can make good and functional copies of the original- I know the hot swap battery of SRAM is still active that’s why most can’t copy at moment, think the “ auto trim “ patent and the brake calliper design and construction run out as well - however that device communication functionality is defo a Shimano thing and I know they do license it out to the likes of wahoo/garmin and SRAM have a similar active patent on theirs - that’s why when they acquired Karoo ( I think ) a Shimano update put an end to it working with DI2 - so unless these China brands write their own set of codes/ instructions for third party devices that feature will be missing
Thanks for your thoughts, Dávos, makes for an interesting read. I do have a concern over the auto trim, as the front derailleur shifter only has one button. So, if Wheeltop is forced to remove the feature (through a firmware update), as LTWOO was, then that would be a massive problem for a groupo with just one button.
I spoke to wheel top, I wanted the MTB version, and that's the one they cannot sell in the EU because of patient issues, which they hoped would be sorted soon.
I could have got the Chinese version from a seller on eBay which goes by the name of lunfeng. It was cheaper than SRAM at £336, but I could get the SRAM system for only £60 more, which I decided on.
Problem is with this thing is its 739.- and I can get AXS Rival XPLR oneby with chainset, casette, chain and powermeter for 1000.- which is a negligent difference to me… And you can get just the kit, brakes, shifters, chain, cassette and rear derailleur for 819.-
That's the European price, unfortunately. There are some ways to get it much cheaper, though all of them involve getting a full bike build. For example, I just bought a full carbon bike with carbon rims, and this groupset, for ~$1000 plus shipping. In this context, this is simply unheard of in any western market.
I just bought(installed Er9) 2 sets of L-Twoo ,Er9 & Erx,gotta say quality pieces,so far works good,whats great is its simple to use for 10,11,& 12 speed which the others dont let u do,cant wait to see if any of the others come out with rim brake version as I have 8 rim bikes & only 2 disc,good shake up to shimano & Sram

I like that one groupset covers a lot of different speeds. Pity that they don't cover a triple crankset though.

do you have a video on tire sizes ? ive been riding 23mm continentals for 40 years at 100lbs and now im reading thats not optimal for a rider my size...and its slower...

No, not yet. You're correct, tyre sizes are getting bigger. The main theory behind increased sizes is that smaller tyres with higher pressures will vibrate the rider more, which in turn will result in fatigue. A larger tyre with less air pressure will have more rolling resistance, put at the same time, will do a better job of soaking up the bumps and vibrations. Up until recently, on my summer bike, I was running 25's at 72psi (5 BAR). I have now moved to 28's. On my gravel bike, I run 35's at roughly 40/50psi, and that is very comfortable. I think it's all down to personal choice. Smaller tyres with a high PSI will be faster on shorter rides on a perfect road surface, but there is some truth in the latest findings.

A typical cell has roughly 500 cycles, and this cell capacity is estimated to be 20,000 operations. So, it's unlikely cell expiry will be an issue. The concern therefore would be premature failure. The unit is covered by a 2-year warrantee, so the concern is failure after that point. The unit was originally designed with a removable battery. The battery is now under a plastic cover that is held in place with four 1.5mm hex screws. It looks like the cover can be easily removed. I've been invited to a post install/review Q&A with Wheeltop, I will ask if the cell can be replaced by an End User.
thanks, but I hope someone would buy and test the rim brake version? bet there's a decent size community of folks wanting to upgrade to electronic at a reasonable price and wants to stick with 10 or 11speed rim brake bikes/wheels
Agreed, I imagine there is. And it’s great that rim is still alive and kicking at Wheeltop. To be honest, it’ll probably just be a cable actuated version of this lever, I can’t imagine there will be any issue
@@ribblevalleycyclist I think this may be their biggest seller, with 105 Disk being so heavily discounted they may struggle to convince people to take a chance on WheelTop but with the big 2 not providing a competitively priced (or none at all) rim brake upgrade option WheelTop may corner the market if the product is good.

Hi Robert, Not 100% sure just yet, as I've not had a chance to test that part. I suspect it's either a Free Stroke Adjustment, or a Reach Adjustment. 👍

Neither user manual refers to it. Looks like it’s sat in front of the hydraulic piston, so if I was a betting man, I’d put my money on free stroke. Once I’ve installed it, I’ll have a better idea
I'll wait for real testing and long term rewiews. The price is not that cheap to take the risk, for a little more you get the equivalent parts on 105 di2 or Sram Rival AXS.
Anyway it's great to have new companies on the market so the big brands are pushed to innovate more than putting one more cog or other slight imprevements between generations.
I had the same problem with battery drain on my Wheeltop EDS TX. The RD battery was going to 5% (from 100%) after leaving the bike standing overnight, and not riding it! Anyway, I found the problem to be the "competative" setting for the change speed. It seems that the groupset does not auto shut down at all, and is permenantly ON, even standing still! I have now switch the change speed back to casual and the RD battery life appears to have gone back to normal. This definately smells of the software bug, that could be fixed in the next release of the APP.....
Also, fine tuning the change on the APP is the BIGGEST pain on earth. They really need to get this fixed!!
Battery, funny you should say that, I set it to Normal’ speed the other day, and I checked it just a minute ago, and it’s still at 100%, which confirms what you’re describing. And yeah, it’s a real pain in the arse to set up!!!

I think there's no point on buying the disc brake version because if you add the cost of cranckset cassette and brakses the price is the same with 105 or rival but the rim brake version because of the wireless thing makes it an interesting option for upgrading older frames which aren't compatible with electronic shifting.
oh.... and it doesn't have extra buttons (D-fly) to control Garmin Edge :/
I think it said 20000 shifts per charge. I do 2000 in a few rides
I live somewhere hilly, so I change gear a lot. According to Di2stats.com, I change gear roughly 12.4 times per mile. So, with this groupset, I would travel roughly 1612 miles between charges.
So by the looks of it, when the battery is goosed the whole component is fucked. Not great. SRAM let's you change the battery. 40 euro for a new battery if needed.

Am I the only one thinking that the major downside of this groupset is the non replaceable batteries? Batteries do degrade with time and at some point stop working completely... what happens then?

Chinese companies don't follow patent rules. They can sue you in your country but you can sue them in China.

That’s not cheap when you have to add cassette, chain, crankset, cables etc not much less than 105 di2.
Add to that VAT and import costs, etc. It's not worth it. I live in the Netherlands and for that amount I have a complete groupset with a decent warranty.

Great video but terrible product . It’s a SRAM rip off . It will get discontinued in a matter of months . It has zero ability to service . It’s ugly as sin . Its quality is dire . Gear radios terrible . It drops its chain or won’t change on a regular basis . Its battery is awful . It’s literally landfill… being sold to you as “cheap” … it is it’s cheap as it’s rubbish ….. will fail in 24 months and you will be left with nothing .
