I got a set of this. So far it has been very good! I understand the price point comments about comparison with 105 di2, but this is really top stuff. The shifter ergonomics are awesome, and you can set it with Shimano or Magura calipers with no issues. The included calipers take Shimano road pads and they have a very good feel so far anyways. What I like the best is that you can adjust it for whatever gears you need, so if you later want to upgrade to 12, 13 or even 14 speeds down the road, it would be possible. (The accuracy of the thing is 0.2mm so it will virtually handle everything). With Shimano or SRam why do you need to change levers and brakes to change cassete speeds ? Makes no sense for me. The shifters are just click buttons, so why would you need to change everything to change to 12 speed ? Sure, there could be updates and the newer ones are better, but it shouldn’t be mandatory, so even this being possibly not to cheap, it could be in the future.
Thanks for the comment with your experience of this really interesting groupset 👍 The Shifters certainly look really nicely designed (from this and other videos), so I'm glad to hear they feel good! And I wanted to know if it would work with my current Shimano Calipers (older frame with Post Mount brakes makes it harder to switch)... so thanks for writing that you think they work with Shimano (would save money too as WheelTop nicely offer a 'no brakes' upgrade kit!!) The 11+12 speed capability is super appealing to me (and I think lots of people), as I'm happy with my current 11S setup and don't want to upgrade just yet (but having the ability to in the future is great!) If they performance and reliability of this groupset pans out (and they work out UK shipping) then it's going to the top of my list!!
@@DerekGreen123 I got directly from their germany warehouse. No issues in the EU. My frame also has postmount brakes, so I understand your pain. I have been riding and testing the EDS TX since February and it works properly for my 12 speeds set up on my TIME ADH23. The hydraulic brakes grab well and felt secure. Made some clips on the functionality video too. I even have a bike crash to prove that it remained functional after a recent crash from a tire slide out... The known maximum chainring fitted is a 55T whille the largest tested cog is 40T from user feedback elsewhere. Officially the front supports up to 53T and 36T at the back according to WheelTop. ;) Happy days.😊
One button for the FD is actually quite clever. I never ridden Shimano, but the buttons for rear shifting seams intuitive to me. Would be nice if you can buy a one button version for both sides to copy the SRAM style up/down shifting.
@@JimIBobIJones the single pad has nothing to do with autotrim. The front derailleur can be up and then move down or it can me down and then move up. That can be achieved with a single button. Or with two. Or with single buttons on both sides (like sram does).
@@ThisIsANameBruh Correct me if I am wrong but unless you have a shifter that goes into a "half" position like the mechanical Shimanos, trimming with a single paddle/actuator means you slow down your shifting. You can't go straight into your higher or lower front gears - you have to "pass through" an intermediate trim phase. I am pretty sure the Wheeltop paddles aren't analogue. Which goes back to I would much rather have a redundant switch/actuator to handle trimming in the (very likely) case that Shimano sues (as they have already with Ltwoo).
@@JimIBobIJones SRAM doesn't have trimming. Shimano does. Wheeltop does. If Shimano sues they're in trouble, they'll have to remove functionality. But you can still get a half position with one paddle. It's all software, you can, for instance, program the half shifts by pressing the single left pad and one of the right pads. The logic is again the same. If the FD is in the down position then single left pad could give fully up and then single left + 1 right could give half down etc etc. It will be a hackjob, for sure, but dual left pads are not necessary.
Excellent idea, looks good and makes a lot of sense. Let’s wait for the on the bike performance , I too would like to see a 10Speeds Dura Ace rim upgraded to this
Always Good and sweet that there are more brands on the market for innovation in the bicycle technology, because that pushes the limits and competition in the bicycle technology. Soon the price tag goes down with no monopoly system domination SRAM and Shimano, lucky for me I lived in Europe.
I like new tech and electronic groupset from China. I'm running Ltwoo R9 hydraulic levers on one of my bikes and I'm pleased with ergonomic. Those levers from wheeltop looks awesome, i like this shape a lot. Also.. it's more competition on the market and more options. So.. manufacturers in near future will have to try more to stay competitive on the market and that inherently benefits the customers.
I was able to get this group set, I have it built up on my bike and it’s awesome 👏 I can attest that it’s solid and durable as well shifts perfectly. I think I’m the second one to have this group set next to you in the U.S. possibly. Wheeltop doesn’t have support so if it breaks your screwed, so then you would have to buy the whole group set again because they don’t have parts available, however Wheeltop is in process of working on support for this group set, such as replacement parts etc…..
@@GCPerformance18 Nice 👍 I can see this group set and it’s very likely potential to be fitted on high end bikes as I have seen already. I know it’s designed to compete with Sram and Shimano. What I like most is a number of things like fully wireless, its compatibility, and you can adjust the each cog in the rear casette for perfect shifting with no chain rub, I’m surprised that Shimano doesn’t do this, I have a friend that has the new 12 DA and he has chain rub on his 3 smallest cog but he can’t adjust each cog, where EDS can.
Please do an install/review video as soon as possible! Very curious how the Wheeltop EDS TX compares to the recently released L-TWOO eRX electronic groupset. Performance under load, speed, waterproofness, quality, etc..
So, it looks fantastic, but, found this particularly concerning on their website: ..."tubing, needles, and olive tips are all proprietary to EDS TX"... Where do I find basic replacement parts? It's not even on their website catalog.

I have been running their second version of the mountain bike 1x EDS OX (YQ derailleur) for about 18 months now. Initial setup was a bit fiddly, but it has been flawless since then. The TX derailleur looks quite a bit different from the OX YQ version, especially the battery area. Maybe I will get this TX set for my road bike, plus it would be interesting to see if the brifters would pair with the MTB derailleur.
Really exited about this new WheelTop EDS TX groupset (I've been reading about the MTB version and the TX 'road' version for a while and waiting for it to be properly released). The value for money, and especially the 11 + 12 speed compatibility, are super appealing (It'd be great to be able to use up all the 11S cassettes / chains / etc, that I've got stocked up) Looking forward to your full review Grant 👍 If I had one REQUEST, it would be that you also test a 'hybrid' setup using Shimano Disc Brake Calipers, as this would be an even better value upgrade for lots of us (they're both mineral oil yes, but are the hose / olives cross-compatible, and is the performance comparable) And if you are reading these comments WHEELTOP, I think there will be lots of interest from UK buyers. So please work out how to get these units delivered into our (stupidly non-EU joined 😭) country. Thanks!!
I sent them an email about the battery replacement outside the 2 year warranty. They said it will done via service centers. Hopefully they can put up service centers all across the globe!
Wheel Top was at Sea Otter last year (or at least a very rudimentary prototype groupset) so I assume they really want to be in the USA. Groupset looks better than I expected. We shall see if they follow the Chinese pattern of releasing product slightly before they should.
IMO, not knowing how it compares in performance to Sram and Shimano, I can't really say if it's good or not, but it's a great alternative to the usual suspects. Great to see the option for rim brake setup as well.
lmao true, yea I dont know... as of right now I have 65 miles on the group and going strong I got the flu this weekend so hoping to get back on the bike this week
tomorrow I will order the EDS OX version that I will put on my carbon fat bike, I already have the app installed on my mobile phone so it will be easier for me to set up. the reason why they only ship to Europe is because they can ship to Europe and it arrives in 7 to 10 days, so it is more profitable to have free shipping in 7 to 10 days, while shipping to America would take 3 months
Have you had a chance to see if the group set is recognized by your head unit (Garmin, Wahoo)? Also very curious how those brakes feel. Thank you for the video mate. Look forward to the next update.
If this product is actually decent at this price then it means Shimano and SRAM must be skimming some nice margin on unit sales of AXS and Di2 at this point (the R&D should have been paid off years ago). Guessing the shipping limitation is due to needing electronic device certifications in different jurisdictions for the battery/chargers.
I think you're partly correct about both the margins for the big-boys as well as the electronics certification issues. I'd also think that in the US patent issues may play a bigger part! And the UK is just making life harder for all importers/exporters with its extra costs & red-tape post (insane) Brexit, which I can see companies avoiding or taking longer to deal with 😭
This looks like a nice group set. I have been looking to upgrade to an electronic group set on the tandem my wife and I ride. I will keep watching for your build and review. I would also like to know how far away the shifter can be from the derailleurs and still function. I'm glad to see another company on the market. The wife and i are going to Italy in June, I might try and pick up the group set there and bring it home.
I had that slight issue and deduced that the silicone cover arcing was the issue. I have encountered this issue once but after carefully fiddled with the cover stretch now it stays shut on my unit.
Hi GC, looking forward to your next review of the TX group set....Could you comment on what make of cranks, chain rings and cassette would work well with the TX. Thanks
For cassettes, I have put my EDS TX through not only Shimano Ultegra R8100 12 speeds but also Aliexpress brands like ZITTO and Sunshine and they all worked. As for the cranks, I have Shimano Ultegra R8100 onboard currently. I have a new LEXON R1 DUB carbon cranks to be installed so we shall see how it works.
@@bobareturned They are uber light and offer reasonable stiffness that is pretty good. Sorted out aomw minor quirk with the lockring as it was supplied with an incorrect version, naking it impossible to install and torque the XCadey powermeter.
Can you test if shimano calipers works with them. They are selling groupset with and without calipers. If you can put shimano calipers on this it would be perfect. In FAQ they say that it's not compatible. 😋
+1 on requesting if you are able to test this (as I'd also love to keep using my existing Shimano Caliper, both for value reasons & ease of upgrading my old Post-Mount calipers) The way I read the FAQ is that you cannot use Shimano Hoses and Olives with the WheelTop Calipers... which doesn't specifically rule out using Shimano Calipers, but it is a little confusing.
The front mech seems insanely slow from the video, looking forward to seeing how it works on bike. My questions: Can you set it up 1x, or is the FD required? If you can run it 1x, can you customize the shifting buttons like to mimic Sram (i. e. left lever shifts to easier gear, either button on the right shifter shifts into harder gear)?
Lack of satellite buttons is a major oversight. I've been wanting to build a simple bike with bullhorn handlebar and minimal components. I know they have the shifter for flat bar, but it looks clumsy.
I mean on the lesser and cheaper items from sram and shimano they do not have sat buttons on shimano or sram, this group is a great buget I think we can do without
I am loving it so far only have 60 miles but it is nice. Haven really played with the front derailer that much because I don’t need too. But I will be testing soon
Is the battery fixed (i.e. screwed) to the derailleur? This could explain how they tried to design around the SRAM patent for wireless shifting (not sure they will be successful, though).
My only info on this, is from other internet comments/videos (so take it at face value)... - As I understood it, SRAM has a patent on 'Removable Batteries on Electronic Groupsets' (not on Wireless shifting per-se). - The early versions of the WheelTop EDS groupset (MTB and possibly Road) DID have removable batteries. - I presume WheelTop had to re-design the units after SRAM's lawyers got in touch ☹ - The new EDS versions look like they battery is in the same position as it used to be, but fully integrated into the plastic/rubber molding (and therefore not removable by the end used). Additionally RE AutoTrim: To the best of my knowledge, SRAM/SHIMANO also share a patent on 'Automatic Trim of Front Derailleur'. The early versions of the LTWOO eRX did have Auto-Trim, but they subsequently removed it through a firmware 'update' (presumably under legal pressure). I hope WheelTop are able to work out a way of keeping the Auto-Trim feature available.
The old EDS for MTB used the AXS design but they quickly pulled them off and phased them out before a lawsuit might happen. The new version for the MTB plus these sets for road bikes are using magnetic charging with non-swappable batteries.
Yeah, I'm keen to know this too! It's a 'nice to have' rather than critical. As long as WheelTop (hopefully) included the ANT+ broadcast hardware capabilities, then perhaps they can add this feature in future 🤞
Hi @GC Performance I have an older S Works Venge from 2013 with rim brakes and a still nice SRAM Red 22. But I'm suffering with the limitations of 28 teeth in the back...the bike is still fast and super nice...I'm just looking for more options especially for mountain routes...Would you recommend the wheel top upgrade kit in general as a possible option to go e.g. for 11 speed instead of 10 speed and having an range until 36 teeth? I would highly appreciate your opinion. thanks a lot!
yes I would it gives you the freedom to get modern shifting and also better cage limitations.... I have rode it once on a 30 mile ride and so far I have loved it
As a blind tandem rider, would this work on a triple ring set or would I need to swap out existing to 2x ? Own a 2015 Cannondale 10spd Altegra as stock. Keen for electronic shifting.
As far as I understand it, WheelTop had to re-design the EDS to use sealed/fixed batteries (the early versions had removable batteries)... as SRAM has a patent on removable batteries (in a right-minded world, you wouldn't be able to patent such an obvious thing, as removable batteries have existed in all sorts of producs for a very long time!! 😠) The EU have a lot of upcoming rules which Ban Non-Removable batteries (in certain types of equipment, which may not include things like this). It'd be wonderful if the EU would effectively invalidate patents which encourage such bad / non-ecological design... but I think I might be dreaming too much 😆
@@GCPerformance18 That's a pretty big issue, for sure. At least with Di2 if the battery goes bad you don't have to replace the derailleur as well. I suppose the SRAM patent is why Shimano hasn't gone to full wireless - though honestly, I almost prefer the Shimano semi-wireless solution since it's only one battery to charge and it looks nicer. Really stupid that US patent laws even allow something as simple as removable batteries to be patented, though.
Yes, the Wheeltop EDS OX YQ is their 1x MTB (paddle shifter) groupset. Although, it doesn't appear to be on sale on their website at the moment 🤷♂️ I've seen it for around 380-400 USD on the Alix and other websites.
That rubber cover for the battery charging cable doesn't look all that waterproof to me. It looks like you spent some time trying to get the cover to fit properly. That doesn't bode well for the long run.
To be honest, that’s the same charging mechanism that’s for the Magene power meter crank, that is exposed. I think without that rubber piece it will be fine
@@GCPerformance18Can confirm, I've ridden my Magene P505 with exposed power connector many times in heavy rain with no issues whatsoever. It's just a couple of exposed (non-spring loaded) metal contacts.
maybe its just me but by the looks of it the build quality may not be on par with like the competition. Also i am thinking, I could get a 105 di2 for like ~1k €.. why would i go the chineese way? Not overly conviced just, yet. Lets see what it brings to the table when the bike built is done.
It's reasonable to be skeptical of new products generally (especially after the problems LTWOO seem to have had with some of the early versions of their eRX groupset, breaking after exposure to lots of water! Which they are apparently addressing in the new Gen2 'Blue' version) But given how much engineering and manufacturing is done in China, I'd guess they will get it right eventually. I actually thought that the design and build quality looked really good (from this video plus other articles + videos) - those shifters look super nice and the derailleurs have solid appearance IMHO. If the shifting performance and reliability is there, I'd personally, rather pay 670 EUR than Shimano/SRAMS c. 900-1000 EUR. If nothing else, hopefully the competition would bring down the prices of the 'Big Boys'/
@@DerekGreen123 to be fair the shifters look rock solid ngl, but there are some edges/lines here and there on the Rd for instance that look a bit odd. But that be indeed minor if the result (shifting quality) is pleasant enough. Price is more relevant than ever and if the product is good it'll get sold no matter what.
At around 10:08 onwards you can see the FD move slightly as Grant is going up the gears on the RD, and he says the phrase 'Auto Trim'... so it appears it's a feature. If I remember correctly, the LTWOO eRX did have Auto-Trim, but it was removed in a Firmware 'Update' (presumably under legal pressure from SRAM / Shimano, who I believe have a shared Patent on this feature. It's a stupid system that allows obvious things like this to be patented 🥲)
Here in Russia we have edc equipped full carbon bikes from a brand named twitter. Model R15 pro. Retails around $850. Or a $1000 if you want carbon wheels. So 740 for just groupset is around triple of what it should cost. Ps it's working fine. Can use any chain/cassette. But software is a bit sketchy. Also no iphone app. At least it wasnt last year. But the main downside is it is not very quick. Slower than my sram axs for sure.
Same story as ltwoo, the MSRP is terrible value, but Alix prices start to make a lot more sense, esp. with the cheaper aluminium versions. Though the aluminium rim brake version will be a bit delayed as they're changing pruduction to meet the higher-than-expected demand. One thing I wanna add is that while it's not officially im spec, the rear derrailleur can take at least a 42t cassete (somebody tested it with their set)
Message for the editor if they havent been fired yet: Have you got the gold play button yet for reaching 100k subs? If so, Grant needs to do an intro with the gold button hanging from his chain, not negotiable or flip the table and fire him.
that fucker got fired again always doing nothing while doing th emost, but yes I do have th eplay button its hanging in my house lol.... it is silver but I am in love with it
There is a separate non-removable battery sealed inside each derailleur (rather than a Shimano-style master battery wired to each derailleur). So there is no concept of 'swapping' batteries between derailleurs (they may or may not be slightly different batteries, but as you can't see them, it's somewhat irrelevant!)
Let's hope these companies come and finally target the Rim road brake market where its in the millions out there. Shimano needs to get off their stupidity and finally address the lack of Rim brake support.
@@GCPerformance18 Thanks for the reply, we really need a massive shake up in this electronic shifting bike market. The fact that electronic shifting is still closed and proprietary is ridiculous in my opinion this is not how you push bike tech forward, but how you keep bike tech away from the masses. There is nothing special about electronic shifting it is not modern state of the art technology so the price point of these systems is a complete joke, when I can built 3 road bikes for the price of Ultegra DI2 that is just silly.
@wufler28 Has Joe posted about the EDS TX on a different platform, as I can't see any UA-cam videos where he mentions it (apart from a 60s overview in the Tapei Bike Show Day 3) ? (I'd be surprised if he hasn't had access to some WheelTop units, one way or another 🙂)
@@DerekGreen123 not yet. I asked if he knew about this groupset some time ago. And he responded that he was testing it but it had problems with front derailleur.
This grouposet is very disruptive to the industry. The rim brake option offers a much more affordable alternative to the Force or Ultegra. I know the two are complete groupsets as opposed to this 5 pieces shiftset, but even adds the price for Cassette, Chain, brake and Crankset from Chinese manufacturers or mix some Shimano parts in, this still cost less than half of what Force or ultegra are asking for. The disc brake is less cometitive due to how much ltwoo is selling its offering for and the fact that new Ltwoo ER9 update has enable the ER9 to have 7-13 speed option as well. But this shifter set in disc brake form is actually what I want with Sram... No need to carefully handling the Dot oil while only have two hoses to run through the stem. I will be putting my rim brake Wheeltop on my Chinarello soon, I will see how it stacks up against my 105 R7000.

yea I like it so simple but something that makes sense
I mean, at a given time the front derailleur has only one direction to move towards, either up or down, so a single pad makes a lot of sense.
yea I never thought about it until its in front of my face but yea it makes snese
Shimano holds a patent on auto triming. They could force wheeltop to patch auto -trim out, which is why the redundancy of a second pad would be nice.
I use a Wheeltop mtb derailleur since 2022. No issues till now , very long lasting battery, much more than sram...
yea they seem to have done so many tests on this tech and they just transferred it over from there mountain bike
I was just trying to buy this groupset, but for the rim brakes
have a rim break bro
Excellent idea, looks good and makes a lot of sense. Let’s wait for the on the bike performance , I too would like to see a 10Speeds Dura Ace rim upgraded to this
I am building the bike tonight wil be able to ride very soon
Can’t wait for the build and your review on the groupsets. I’ll be on standby for the video. Go Grant!
So.. manufacturers in near future will have to try more to stay competitive on the market and that inherently benefits the customers.
yea I like this stuff too I like new stuff its fun to play with and it is a breath of fresh air from the norm of the industry that I see everyday
Great stuff! Finally something useful in this Chanel!
calls up bike shop..."yeah uhhh...can I get a 5 piece with barbeque sauce"
@MrChumps1., two bits, thigh & a breast with bbq sauce 😂🤣😅 ya too much bruv as ya got me peeing in my pants 😅🤣😂
Ive been waiting for the release for a while now. Ive known of its existence for months. Good to see its finally out there.
I really want to put this on a 80s steel frame
hell yea!!!
Yea mine is still working really well. Going riding this week on it
@@GCPerformance18 Nice 👍 I can see this group set and it’s very likely potential to be fitted on high end bikes as I have seen already.
Performance under load, speed, waterproofness, quality, etc..
im installing it tonight
@@GCPerformance18 Any chance you are following up on this with another video?
WOW!!!!👍👍If possible please test the gearing displays on both Garmin & Wahoo headsets.
What is the attachment for the front derailleur?
Hell yeah! Looks good. I hope they do a 1x gravel version with larger cassette range.
Omg ive also been waiting for this for a couple months now. I just wasnt aware of it!
So, it looks fantastic, but, found this particularly concerning on their website: ..."tubing, needles, and olive tips are all proprietary to EDS TX"...
Where do I find basic replacement parts? It's not even on their website catalog.
They look like standard SRAM needles and olives.
no its very easy barbs you can use whatever... I use shimanoj for them if I do not have
Bought this for $480. Can't beat that mang.
How?!? That’s an amazing deal!!
@@GCPerformance18 some vendors had it on AliExpress for $575. Also Ali has an anniversary sale $80 off with a code and some additional discounts. Ended up at $480.
Alloy version? I paid USD633 for the full carbon version with the hydraulic brakes (note: no cassette, chainset, chain are included).
@@TaichoCyclist ya, alloy, hydraulic disc. Carbon was out of stock but that was only listed as $30 more. Hopefully I got a retail release but I'll find out and post on chinertown.
@@weilliamyes there is a hot discussion going on at Chinertown about this groupset. See you there.
The value for money, and especially the 11 + 12 speed compatibility, are super appealing (It'd be great to be able to use up all the 11S cassettes / chains / etc, that I've got stocked up)
Looking forward to your full review Grant 👍
If I had one REQUEST, it would be that you also test a 'hybrid' setup using Shimano Disc Brake Calipers, as this would be an even better value upgrade for lots of us (they're both mineral oil yes, but are the hose / olives cross-compatible, and is the performance comparable)
And if you are reading these comments WHEELTOP, I think there will be lots of interest from UK buyers. So please work out how to get these units delivered into our (stupidly non-EU joined 😭) country. Thanks!!
A great groupset. Though not big of a concern, it would be nice if you can replace the battery of the derailleurs.
Yea but I think there are patent issues there with sram
Hopefully they can find some workaround on that. This has been the best one yet outside the main brands.
Can't wait for a ride & long term review.
BTW - why are you calling this a "FIVE" piece group set? 2 Shifters + 2 derailleurs + 2 calipers = 6, no?
lmao true, yea I dont know... as of right now I have 65 miles on the group and going strong I got the flu this weekend so hoping to get back on the bike this week
tomorrow I will order the EDS OX version that I will put on my carbon fat bike, I already have the app installed on my mobile phone so it will be easier for me to set up. the reason why they only ship to Europe is because they can ship to Europe and it arrives in 7 to 10 days, so it is more profitable to have free shipping in 7 to 10 days, while shipping to America would take 3 months
I so far have 65 miles on it and planning on riding more once getting over the flu but so far I like it
I’m down! I just need a long cage rear derailleur for a 10-46 cassette.
Have you had a chance to see if the group set is recognized by your head unit (Garmin, Wahoo)? Also very curious how those brakes feel. Thank you for the video mate. Look forward to the next update.
I will check, with my hammerhead it recognized my ltwoo
I'm definitely digging it. My only issue is have 4 bikes ugh.
hahaha I have one for it
Is there a band clamp for the FD? Hopefully, you'll do a build video for the rim brake version. I want to install this on my kids bike.
there is not but you can buy those from a 3rd party and install the braze on, on there
If this product is actually decent at this price then it means Shimano and SRAM must be skimming some nice margin on unit sales of AXS and Di2 at this point (the R&D should have been paid off years ago).
Guessing the shipping limitation is due to needing electronic device certifications in different jurisdictions for the battery/chargers.
I think you're partly correct about both the margins for the big-boys as well as the electronics certification issues.
I'd also think that in the US patent issues may play a bigger part!
And the UK is just making life harder for all importers/exporters with its extra costs & red-tape post (insane) Brexit, which I can see companies avoiding or taking longer to deal with 😭
I would like to see the Mtb version. I nice bling upgrade for flat bar bikes.
they have one already
This looks like a nice group set. I have been looking to upgrade to an electronic group set on the tandem my wife and I ride. I will keep watching for your build and review. I would also like to know how far away the shifter can be from the derailleurs and still function. I'm glad to see another company on the market. The wife and i are going to Italy in June, I might try and pick up the group set there and bring it home.
Super interested to see your follow up videos! Thanks for this
Supposedly you can use the Shimano calipers with the levers... that's probably what I would do and not mess with these calipers.
yes
Somehow the rear derailleur charging rubber cap didn`t want to stay close :) So much for waterproofing.
I had that slight issue and deduced that the silicone cover arcing was the issue. I have encountered this issue once but after carefully fiddled with the cover stretch now it stays shut on my unit.
lmao yea I know I think my mind was in between me speaking and trying to figure that out, its mroe on me lol
Ltwoo had to remove thyeur front derailleur trimming because of legalities wirh Shimano. I hope that Wheeltop doesn't have the same issue.
That’s why wheeltop has not released in the United States
Cool disponible pour la France ! Ce sera parfait sur mon vélo d’hiver qui est en 11s
You finally have a review for EDS TX.
Wow, that's really cool.
Hi GC, looking forward to your next review of the TX group set....Could you comment on what make of cranks, chain rings and cassette would work well with the TX.
Thanks
yea Im going witha full shimano build for mine, shimano crnaks and cassette and a kmc chain
@@TaichoCyclisthow have the new cranks worked?
@@bobareturned They are uber light and offer reasonable stiffness that is pretty good. Sorted out aomw minor quirk with the lockring as it was supplied with an incorrect version, naking it impossible to install and torque the XCadey powermeter.

Can you test if shimano calipers works with them. They are selling groupset with and without calipers. If you can put shimano calipers on this it would be perfect. In FAQ they say that it's not compatible. 😋
+1 on requesting if you are able to test this (as I'd also love to keep using my existing Shimano Caliper, both for value reasons & ease of upgrading my old Post-Mount calipers)
The way I read the FAQ is that you cannot use Shimano Hoses and Olives with the WheelTop Calipers... which doesn't specifically rule out using Shimano Calipers, but it is a little confusing.
Love how the hoods look like the Sram22 mechanical group. Nice and small for my Trump hands.
yea I am excited to try them
they should try wireless braking. what happens if they go out of business and turn the servers off. can on make any adjustments.
fuck no lol
today just got my new bike with eds tx installed with 13 speed cassette, will try
The front mech seems insanely slow from the video, looking forward to seeing how it works on bike. My questions: Can you set it up 1x, or is the FD required? If you can run it 1x, can you customize the shifting buttons like to mimic Sram (i. e. left lever shifts to easier gear, either button on the right shifter shifts into harder gear)?
it does shift slow but hoenstly it works well, you can change the shifting on there but not like sram paddle shifting style
Top tier but shift slower than 105
That’s a great looking groupset, what’s the specs for max tooth for the rear cassette?
Lack of satellite buttons is a major oversight. I've been wanting to build a simple bike with bullhorn handlebar and minimal components. I know they have the shifter for flat bar, but it looks clumsy.
I mean on the lesser and cheaper items from sram and shimano they do not have sat buttons on shimano or sram, this group is a great buget I think we can do without
Hey GC!
Wheeltop EDS back on AliExpress as of this week? Should I pull the trigger??!!
I am loving it so far only have 60 miles but it is nice. Haven really played with the front derailer that much because I don’t need too. But I will be testing soon
Can you do a review on Tavelo bike from China? I know Panda Cycles sell it
yes I have something coming very soon
Of course the 1 button front shifter had to be contextual for a 2x, I've been wondering how to set this in di2 for a while, whats the downside?
it makes sense lol right
6:46 I'm screaming 🤣
Lmao
Is the battery fixed (i.e. screwed) to the derailleur? This could explain how they tried to design around the SRAM patent for wireless shifting (not sure they will be successful, though).
My only info on this, is from other internet comments/videos (so take it at face value)...
- As I understood it, SRAM has a patent on 'Removable Batteries on Electronic Groupsets' (not on Wireless shifting per-se).
- The early versions of the WheelTop EDS groupset (MTB and possibly Road) DID have removable batteries.
- I presume WheelTop had to re-design the units after SRAM's lawyers got in touch ☹
- The new EDS versions look like they battery is in the same position as it used to be, but fully integrated into the plastic/rubber molding (and therefore not removable by the end used).
Ant+ or BLE connection to head unit?
Yeah, I'm keen to know this too!
It's a 'nice to have' rather than critical.
As long as WheelTop (hopefully) included the ANT+ broadcast hardware capabilities, then perhaps they can add this feature in future 🤞
yes
I have rode it once on a 30 mile ride and so far I have loved it
@@GCPerformance18 Thanks a lot for your opinion and answer, have a great week
As a blind tandem rider, would this work on a triple ring set or would I need to swap out existing to 2x ? Own a 2015 Cannondale 10spd Altegra as stock. Keen for electronic shifting.
Right now It is only 2x
Derailleurs look a bit big but shifters look good
How has the Wheeltop EDS been so far?
So far amazing!!! App sucks but the battery life and shifting is nice
@@GCPerformance18 Nice 👍
@@GCPerformance18 have you had any chain rub in the rear cassette from shifting from big ring to small ring and back to big ring, or in any gear?
Woah! Mickey Mouse bend you over the barrel? Oh boy, what happens at Dizzy Knee should stay at Disney!
Hi, are the batteries removable and swappable?
They are not. That brings up a great point what happens when the battery goes bad
As far as I understand it, WheelTop had to re-design the EDS to use sealed/fixed batteries (the early versions had removable batteries)... as SRAM has a patent on removable batteries
(in a right-minded world, you wouldn't be able to patent such an obvious thing, as removable batteries have existed in all sorts of producs for a very long time!! 😠)
The EU have a lot of upcoming rules which Ban Non-Removable batteries (in certain types of equipment, which may not include things like this).
Is it possible to use the brake calipers and hoses from 105 or Ultegra with the Wheeltop shifters?
yes you can they are both mineral oil so this is possible
Did you say they have a wireless MTB 1x groupset?
Yes, the Wheeltop EDS OX YQ is their 1x MTB (paddle shifter) groupset.
Although, it doesn't appear to be on sale on their website at the moment 🤷♂️
I've seen it for around 380-400 USD on the Alix and other websites.
yes they do and it works really well
hehe love a good GC unboxing:)

If the cover has a tight fit, it´s fiddly to get in place. If fit is sloppy, it will just fall in place. So??? Rr
@@GCPerformance18Can confirm, I've ridden my Magene P505 with exposed power connector many times in heavy rain with no issues whatsoever. It's just a couple of exposed (non-spring loaded) metal contacts.

yes there is
Is it change the reach a lot?
is there any link for purchase it and delivers to europe. ?
whatever is the link in the description is where they ship too
I bought this upgare my disc brake to my bike
maybe its just me but by the looks of it the build quality may not be on par with like the competition.
Which they are apparently addressing in the new Gen2 'Blue' version)
But given how much engineering and manufacturing is done in China, I'd guess they will get it right eventually.
Price is more relevant than ever and if the product is good it'll get sold no matter what.
if you can get 105 for that cheap that is good but hoenstly 105 di2 is still 2k for dealers
Does front deraileur adjust it self?
OK there's an iPhone app now. It is also much nicer than it was last year. And a race mode should solve slow shifting problem. Great work edc!
For models with twister, shifter and cage.
It's aluminum, not carbon.
Is the brand Twitter or Twister??
Same story as ltwoo, the MSRP is terrible value, but Alix prices start to make a lot more sense, esp. with the cheaper aluminium versions. Though the aluminium rim brake version will be a bit delayed as they're changing pruduction to meet the higher-than-expected demand.
One thing I wanna add is that while it's not officially im spec, the rear derrailleur can take at least a 42t cassete (somebody tested it with their set)

@@GCPerformance18 Gold, Silver - Still a W.
Front and rear batteries are different?
There is a separate non-removable battery sealed inside each derailleur (rather than a Shimano-style master battery wired to each derailleur).
So there is no concept of 'swapping' batteries between derailleurs (they may or may not be slightly different batteries, but as you can't see them, it's somewhat irrelevant!)
Let's hope these companies come and finally target the Rim road brake market where its in the millions out there. Shimano needs to get off their stupidity and finally address the lack of Rim brake support.
it has been runing strong for me i have over 10 rides on it so far
@@GCPerformance18 Thanks for the reply, we really need a massive shake up in this electronic shifting bike market. The fact that electronic shifting is still closed and proprietary is ridiculous in my opinion this is not how you push bike tech forward, but how you keep bike tech away from the masses. There is nothing special about electronic shifting it is not modern state of the art technology so the price point of these systems is a complete joke, when I can built 3 road bikes for the price of Ultegra DI2 that is just silly.

I’m building my bike tomorrow. I’m excited to see how it is
@wufler28 Has Joe posted about the EDS TX on a different platform, as I can't see any UA-cam videos where he mentions it (apart from a 60s overview in the Tapei Bike Show Day 3) ?

@@DerekGreen123 not yet. I asked if he knew about this groupset some time ago. And he responded that he was testing it but it had problems with front derailleur.
wheeltop since 1951?
I will be putting my rim brake Wheeltop on my Chinarello soon, I will see how it stacks up against my 105 R7000.
yea if it is steady and works then it would be nice but they need to make it so they can past the patents
Does it have auto trimming??
yes
@@marcinstyle85 thx. I've done some research:
1. Auto trimming
2. Front battery 500mah, rear 800mah
3. Auto fall back in rear derailleur- same feature as latest SRAM.
4. IP67 waterproofing
yes it has a lot of things that are blocking patents
Whats the gear capacity
36 is the rear biggest and it says 53 for the front
Is this compatible with Campy bits?
Sadly they didn't make any TT shifters. So they are not going to change the market, but sure can be an option for some riders due to the versatility for different speeds.
⚠️ I would rather see a 1 year durability test *before* promoting the product! ⚠️
