    Thanks! I might consider using rice paper for my art (very different from Chinese calligraphy), and I needed to know what to look for. Looks like "half ripe" is want I would need. Thanks!

      This is wonderful to see! I just got some rice paper from Amazon - it was about 28.00 cdn for 70 sheets. I have not tried it yet. I was wondering- does one need to tape the paper down like in water color.

    Hi, very appreciated to see the painting difference between the 2 types of rice paper. I think the raw paper you tested is not a good quality one, have you tried 特種淨皮生宣? it is a better quality of raw paper and the ink absorption (墨韻)will be better than that one.

      Thanks. I only use half-ripe rice paper. The other paper is for demonstration only because someone asked if there’s any cheaper alternative. So I just randomly picked some from a stationery shop.

    I was wondering what is the benefit of using Chinese rice paper that has a "plastic-like" coating on one side? I did not realize that I had bought it. But now I have it. (10 June 2023)

    • @KateWuArt
      @KateWuArt  Рік тому

      My best guess is that it’s being mounted on something. Perhaps it’s a different purpose paper. You may try to paint on it and see what it looks like.

    Thank you, Kate! This is very informative...I've subscribed! :) I'm just starting to learn Chinese inkbrush painting so the information is most helpful for me. Do you have a video comparing brushes as well?

    • @KateWuArt
      @KateWuArt  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for subscribing. Unfortunately I don’t have a video to compare brushes but there is an earlier video that I talked about materials and explained the two brushed I’m using. Perhaps I can talk about that again in some future videos.

    Can you grade the paper by weight as with water colour paper, thank you.

    • @KateWuArt
      @KateWuArt  3 місяці тому

      We don’t grade the rice paper by weight like gsm. Rice paper was classified by the water absorption level. The one that I’m using is medium absorption, called half-ripe rice paper.

    Thanks for the information, very useful! What type of paint is the colour?

    • @KateWuArt

      I am using traditional color pigments which are made of mostly natural materials and in chip form.

    Hi Kate, I'm looking for a sized rice paper for gongbi painting style, so a rice paper where the water and watercolour doesn't bleed outside of the drawn Chinese ink lines of the painting. Are there any recommendations you could share? Thanks!

    • @KateWuArt
      @KateWuArt  Рік тому +2

      If you don’t want the watercolor to bleed easily, you may consider half-ripe and ripe paper. Paper is tricky. There are many kinds and brands. You just have to try it out. Besides, thin papers tend to be more raw.

    Do you have any recomendations for framing paintings on rice paper?

    • @KateWuArt
      @KateWuArt  Рік тому +1

      If you meant frames a in matting, doesn’t matter. You may use regular cardboards and it will look nice. However you will have to have the painting in rice paper mounted (backed) on another piece of rice paper (cheaper ones) first to make sure that the painting is straight and sturdy .
