It seems to me that the Russians juggle the battlefield quite well. The Ukrainians brought (brought back from Kursk) reinforcements and began to defend Pokrovsk (which is actually already losing its importance because it can hardly be the main logistical hub while it is being bombed). The Russians (so it seems to me) instead of attacking Pokrovsk, stopped there and attacked in places such as the river Oskol (Pivnichne) in the north-west near Kupjansk and Siversk (Verhinekamiansk), then south of Pokrovsk near Kurakhovo (command center for that area) and further south-west near Vuhledar. As Kenrik2015 wrote “If he sends reinforcements everywhere, he will everywhere be weak.” - Sun Tzu, the Ukrainians have concentrated near Pokrovsk, and the Russians are striking in other places and beating lightly near Pokrovsk, so that the Ukrainians don't think to move to other places.
Commander, how about u make an special episode on the battle of singapore, with prolog, actions, details, aftermath etc. The coverage can be exactly the way we get sitreps: with arrow-arrow maps. I know it'll be a lot of pressure on you, but I believe it'll be quite fun.
That’s why initiative is crucial - you can have a wide range of options if you have the initiative. You can always select a different direction of attack that will put your enemy at a disadvantage. It also forces enemy into bloody offensives because the only way to take initiative is to force your enemy to react, and that can be done by offensive action.

Russia has initiative. It’s not possible to predict the attack direction if you’re on defensive and constantly guessing your enemy’s next move. So ukraine is not “falling for it”, they simply are reacting to Russian moves, and that’s a bad situation to be in.
Pincer movements are not a trick, you can fall or not fall to, but a tactic, that causes problems for the defender, unless he is able to flank the movements. At the tip of the pincer the defender has to split his attention to two directions, whilst the pincer creates a sailient, for which the defender has to decide, if he wants to retreat or risk encirclement. A pincer is rather not a problem for a defender with strong forces, unless it is a really big surprise. But one that is allready in a bad condition can hardly do anything about it.

That fact in adittion to the footage of AFU soldiers running away drom Zolota itself, paint a very compelling pitcture: most likely zolota Nyva was taken by the russians as well in the same movement.
I'd be willing to wager that those troops in the pocket have no idea because to tell them would lead to a complete collapse of a stretch of highway that could lead them directly to Dnipro.

Chassiv Yar is a key point for the russians to take. Yes, it would be difficult to further advance from that position - but advancing from there isn´t the point anyways. The town is on the high ground over Bakhmuth and denying that to the Ukrainians is important to secure that city. Chassiv Yar also sits on the Donbas canal and controlls the passages over it. In order to make the canal their own defensive line, the russians must take the fortifications on both banks anyways. And once they did that, there is no reason to stop at this point. And finally, Chassiv Yar is also the high ground over Kostyantinivka. And holding that, would allow the Russians to easily target the logistic and military movements there. If the russians were really that shy of difficult city fighting, they could much rather not care to take Toretsk (to be clear: I don´t think, that they are not trying to advance there either). The fortifications behind that are just as strong or stronger, it is on the lower ground as compared to the positions which the russians already hold and it is possible to go around it.

Would explain why Russia hasn't moved much beyond the city yet. "Leonidivka" What if they simple went straight north from the westernmost part of Niu york? It seems unlikely they have already taken Nelipivka... What if there's that northern advance from the west flank going to Leonidivka AND a second advance almost straight westwards from Zalizne towards Shcherbynivka? That would be just the kind of pincer Russian forces prefers doing. It would also mean the remaining forces in Niu york and Nelipivka are operationally encircled by now. Took few months, because there were no reserves in Kursk. Now they brought enough forces to have decent defense, and have more options to make moves.
