Thanks! Ordered one. Seems much easier than taking blade into a shop and cheaper than ordering a new blade. Just to state the obvious; safety glasses a good idea when using this.
I tried this product but the stone and guide kept grabbing the blade and forcing a stop to the spin. I tried lighter and lighter touches, differing angles, etc. and I just could not get this to work. In order to sharpen the blade you have to find that position that will allow the grinding wheel to do its work as you work it up and down the cutting edge of the blade. Tried it both in a vise and hand holding it. For me, it was a fail. Went back to my angle grinder which has worked better for me.
What do ya know. I have one of those. I don't remember how many years I've had it. I can say I've only used it a couple of times (shame on me). Now all I have to do is find it. I'm pretty sure I saw it in the last week or so as well.
Small vice from Harbor Freight is $30. Cheap spring clamp is $1-$2. Nah, i'll buy 2 Teslas and sharpen lawn mower blades free hand, heck I won't even wear gloves.
Corded quarter inch drills are cheap and have several times the RPM of the battery drill you are using. It will make sharpening that blade a lot easier and quicker.
Tried with cordless drill and stone caught blade so hard it backed out screw out of stone. Worked great with old standard corded drill. Anyone else have this problem ??
Having declared my dissatisfaction with this sharpener last night ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ I thought about the problem some more. It occurred to me that I might be undoing each attempt at achieving a sharp edge by the repeated attempts. So, I tried to clean up the unsatisfactory result by honing with only positions 3 and 4.Miracle!! A really nicely sharpened chef's knife, more than enough to handle my needs. Admittedly, it did not reach professionally sharpened razor-fineness, but it is now significantly sharper than it was. A bout of breaking down carrots convinced me. So, major apologies to the manufacturer, Amazon, and all happy and potential owners! Follow the directions: don't buy it if you have ceramic blades; and don't overwork your knife blade.
Interesting. I just purchased one of these this morning and found your video. Also interesting, the reviews are close to 1200 (not sure when you purchase your stone). Always protect the hands. Also, this was a good time to clean the bottom of the mower.
@@YourHaloCreations I use a small drywall mud knife to scrape off the grass and when storing for the winter I also scrub the bottom with a brush, hose off and spray with Pam.
First thing you need to do depending on the type of mower you have is make sure your battery is removed, it's unplugged or your spark plug boot is pulled off. Don't trust the fate of your fingers to the assumption that shit will always work as intended.
Where can I get the power hand drill? Could you put a link possibly for Amazon for the hand drill because I need to get one of those too. Thanks a million!❤
Useful info, but do you have any advice on how to sharpen kitchen knives? I’ve got some which just aren’t sharpening any more using one of those kind of sharpening “sticks”. Do you think your lawnmower blade sharpener would work or is it too big?
Do not use this on anything other than a lawnmower blade. I used it on some fiskar pruners and it are through my blade and mangled it. This only seems to work for a lawnmower blade since the blade is really thick metal.
Great video. I would suggest leather gloves when handling the blade. Especially when holding the blade to tighten or loosening the bolt to the mower. I have been using a dremel but I think I will get this. It looks easier.
Less than 5 minutes. After using this it seems about the same. I don’t remove the blade from the mower. Also there are almost zero rocks and stuff in my yard. So no big marks just a rounded edge from the grass
I guess no, you don't NEED to remove the blade to sharpen it, but its going to make your life easier if you take the blade off before you try to sharpen it.
Definitely cheaper and easier to DIY it. Not hard at all. Just balance it afterwards and you're good. You dont need to sharpen it super sharp (as a matter of fact, it's detrimental to sharpen it excessively because it makes the blade more prone to damage).
Why does it matter that the blade is even cuz I just sharpened my lawnmower blade and it’s the same one as the video and I did it with without this tool because I don’t have it, so does it rlly matter if it’s even?
It helps with vibration which will cause wear and tear in your mower long term. Kind of like balancing a vehicle wheel for example, if a wheel is off balance your car will vibrate at certain speeds.
Yes it matters. As stated in a previous comment, vibrations from an unbalanced blade can wear out crankshaft upper and lower oil seals and piston connector rods at the crankshaft and piston wrist pins. If you see silvery streaks in the oil at the time of an oil change, that is powdered aluminum from your connector rod wearing out. If your time is worthless, you can replace the connector rod and then remedy the cause or you can balance the blade and change the oil at least once a season.
@@paulbillings1791 After 3 years of use, I’ve never changed the oil in my electric lawnmower 😜 But yes, you are correct indeed. Balancing the blade(s) is crucial to keep all parts of the mower operating within the manufacturer’s specs as well as all reasons stated above in both comments. Vibrations will eventually lead to parts becoming stressed, loose, and over time will worsen as the parts become more and more worn out/damaged. Ultimately resulting in some sort of failure(s) over time if never addressed.
Sorry, years ago I tried a tool like this. It would take me HOURS to get the blade like that. I suppose if I sharpened the blade weekly, but who has time for that? If I *were* to use something like this, I would certainly clamp the drill and move the blade.
I did. I couldn't get a even remotely sharp edge on my blade. It's new, never been sharpened so that might have something to do with it but I think the bit for the Dremel is just way too fine grit.
Bought them and they kept coming apart and unscrewing...piece of crap stone. All the other tips were great. Just the product sucks, but not your fault.
Four number one go are low-power then to a gas push mower to get the job done you will have to sharpen everyday to use that dumb sharpener support local stores people's jobs

Looks like you need a spade to clean it out after a mow or two!
Ordered. Thanks
I’ve had one of these for a couple years. And been using it wrong for a couple years. Thanks for doing this!

🤓 safety glasses, 👍
You think you can sharpen the blade without taking it off
@@joshuamorris9050, but if you want it balanced, you need to take it off.
Thanks for the video. The blade can possibly be secured to something with vice grips.
First time seeing channel. Purchased the new ego and ready to sharpen, appreciate excellent information.✅

Everyone, please wear a work glove when handling any blade.
🤣🤣
No
Yes mother.
Yessss! That's the FIRST thing I said when he took the blade off. 🤦🏾♀️
Flower hands 🙌🏼
worked perfect on my electric mower blade.
awesome! happy to help

Bro get yourself a used vice. They are cheap. You deserve it and your worth it
Maybe if there was an electric vice...
@@jaimealvarez4722 Corded or battery operated? lol

They recommend using drill mode. Not fast
Just got this today and it worked like a charm. Much easier with a C-clamp.
Awesome 👏

Thanks for the video. Please… ALWAYS promote/instruct safety (i.e. gloves, eyewear, remove fuel before tipping mower, etc.).
that's common sense bro
It's an electric mower. There is no fuel to remove.
Okay product but it will come the stone will eventually come loose. I suggest using a washer between the screw and the stone to keep it secure.

Any power drill will work. I’m showing this with my Home Depot branded one, but any will work.
The nail on the wall by the professional at ACE hardware store is not reliable at all but the tool is pretty cool, thank you.

Whetstone.
For those wondering, I found a really good knife sharpener on Amazon. It’s called KitchenIQ 50009 Edge Grip 2-Stage Knife Sharpener

Tighten that bolt to spec! What you did will come off and take your feet with it
Awesome Dethatcher
Thanks!
or a vise
My same exact setup 😂
I got one but compared to using a flap disk on an angle grinder, these things are pathetic
The blade is not balanced with the nail or hook in the wall because it’s not mounted Centre
He had to make sure everyone knew he has 2 teslas
Well, if you watch any of my videos you already know
Can’t believe you still have a blue ryobi battery
Costs $6.99 and over $8.00 to ship. Still cheaper than the lawnmower repair shop

unlike this guy, use a bench vice or clamp it tightly to a strong stable surface
