Passed this along to our hockey league parents. Girls non contact hockey had a rash of concussions from unintentional contact and this video explained the facts to parents and players and why the league has taken it's position on concussions in "black and white". Many times players would question why they weren't allowed to play for a few weeks as their symptoms subsided and this explains it beautifully. This is a must view for all sports leagues.

This is by far the most fun and helpful video. I fell down the stairs last wednesday and Im home sick do to a concussion. I noticed having one after an hour that I fell, kept feeling a bit nauseous. Went to my doctor and he confirmed what I already knew. It is by far the most frustrating thing. So thanks for the awesome video. I shared it on my facebook to let people know what I have to do to get better.

This is perhaps one of the easiest to understand videos that explain a concussion and what someone should expect if they have one. I think where some people get into trouble is when they get into a rush to return to play or work and they aren't honest about their symptoms.

My son just suffered a concussion and this video was recommended to me from a friend - Great overview and gives helpful information about understanding what the person with the concussion feels - my son is frustrated and suffers still a week after he was hit during a hockey game. Who cross checks the goalie? Concussions are slow recovery injuries and this video helps - THANK YOU

@LsBaba Hi. tough to give medical advice over internet and I dont have a perfect answer but... we know how to counsel people that have extreme risk (boxers, linemen, hockey enforcers) but we are still figuring out cause and effect in milder/infrequent concussions. My guess is your issue might be more garden variety mental health issues (ef depression, anxiety) which affect what we call your working memory.Your working memory helps you focus, blocks out distractions, and helps you complete tasks.

Thank you. I discovered this video at such a timely point... a couple of weeks after having a collision between my left temple and a 45-pound end of a weightlifter's bar. It's true. People around don't realize the seriousness of it. I certainly didn't until I experienced on-going symptoms after the 7-10 days the doctor said would be phase one. How complex is this injury!

EVERYONE NEEDS TO KNOW THIS. I wish I did when each of my girls fell headfirst, one just riding her bike slowly, and the other from a hanging bar I installed myself in our home! Oh, and my first of ten concussions was when a dog chased me, fast! and I and my bike crashed in to a malibox. NEVER IGNORE A HEAD INJURY! Seek medical attention ASAP, and be alert to any mental and behavioral changes after the collision...thanks God there is much greater awareness and help available now!

One time I was at a horse show and my horse bucked me off. When I fell i landed on my head and my helmet broke. As soon as I got home I had a headache and fell asleep about two hours later I felt sick and went in the bathroom my head started to heat up and next thing I know I'm throwing up right after I threw up I felt a lot better and no longer having that sick feeling of headache that was a year ago. About a week ago I forgot what my kitchen and my school yard looked like. As soon i I remembered it I forgot again a second later. Is that bad? Because my friends think I have amnesia.

I had a concussion about month ago, i fainted, hit my head and had a seizure. I am not epileptic and this is the first time its happened, although i did donate blood that morning. I felt fine 2-3 weeks after so i decided to play some tennis, afterwards i felt totally normal. But last week i went on a car trip that was 7 hours long and for the past week Ive felt dizzy, tired, anxious, off balance, irritable and just plain sad... i had many tests prior to the accident, mostly positive....

what happens to those patients who are in the top 10% who don't heal in the average time period, say 3 years? what are the risks associated to having symptoms drawn out in such a way? the nature of my concussion was a slapshot to the lower jaw, closer to the throat/neck area, creating a torsion motion of the head. to this day i cannot perform technical, or heavily logic based functions such as math or scientific method and continuously have all symptoms associated despite treatments of all kinds

I feel like concussion are not taken seriously but some people.
I've, in only a 3 month season (hockey), have suffered 3 concussions, and now, at only the age of 16, am forced to retire from competitive hockey.
All my life, I played competitive hockey (AA, AAA) and until 4 yrs ago, there were no hitting. But when hitting got included into the game, when we turn 13 or 14, a lot of people, who don't know how to hit properly just went out on the ice to hurt people. Its not that bad since kids aren't the strongest but the problem is when you start to play against older player(17 to 20). I played in junior A until about a week ago, and people, who, even at this lvl, still don't know how to hit.
So, in the first game of my junior career, i got hit to the head. I got back up and didn't feel much but the team doctor wanted to check (luckily he did) and diagnosed me with a concussion. The next day, I went to see a specialist and said I'd be out for a week. The next week, I got cleared to play and had a couple of good practices and steped on the ice. Now, 2 or 3 games later, the exact same scenario happens, but this time, i;m out for 2 weeks. Get back, practice, and the following game, i get concussed.
Yesterday, was the first time since october 4th that I skated, and even then, it just didn't feel right. I'm no longer allowed to play any contact sport since, well, my next concussion, if I get one, could have permanent damages.
What i'm trying to say, to any parents reading this, if your child, playing any contact sport suffers a concussion, even a light one, think about all the ups and downs of what if he got a second or third concussion. Its not fun having a headache for a long long period of time, trust me.
Concussion are a very, very serious injury, and it should be monitored very closely, you do not want any permanent effects.

I generally am a clumsy person, and I don't think I have a concussion, but things have been different lately... I've been a tad sensitive to light and I've been way more forgetful than usual lately. I've been getting off and on headaches, which has never happened to me before... Also, I'm having a horrible time sleeping. I've never had a concussion, but it can always happen. (If something did happen, I don't remember)

I've never had a concussion before, and it's probably just a mild smack, I thought I was overreacting some with all this sensitivity, dizziness, headachiness, sleepiness, and nausea... ness xD I have been hit on this side of the head before, though we never diagnosed a concussion (thinking back, there probably was one x( )

Why would I have to let my trainer know? My personal trainer just trains me in the gym. In fact, I don't think they do anything medically related. I do have a Certified Athletic Therapist that does what you mentioned "communicate with your coach, parents, etc. .... regarding your injury and symptoms". Completely different people and education. Certified Athletic Trainers are the US version of Certified Athletic Therapists, but they're ONLY in the states, not Canada. Clarity???
