I think that's a great observation. It definitely fits more with wild wing culture than it does with a lot of other software and culture. So it's the kind of song that he would enjoy it. Because it meshes well with where he lives.
How many actual secret identities have we had in aSoIaF so far? And with "secret identities" I mean actual attempts to fool the reader, because the only cases I can think of are White Beard and Reek 2. Because every other case so far has been somewhat obvious. We learn that’s there’s a secret to Griff in the first chapter he features. Point of View characters know if they’re under a false identity. Matching character descriptions and heavy hints make it easy to figure out the others. There’re only 2 cases of “character x is secretly character y”.

So like in the real world as well as fiction nepotism is a thing, politics are a thing, a basic shortage of individuals can exist.. People might not like other people. And I think we can actually see all of this in the books. Like id argue ser rodrick is a pretty decent man at arms, not the best but pretty darn good. Where as ser tallad had he been selected would have been very poor. Like sure he's good at beating up people who aren't masters yet but Bronn calls him out as repeating techniques in a really obvious way. That would get him killed in a fight with someone of Bronns level.. So like just even within the text. We can see that potential choices aren't always the best and even if you pick someone pretty good they might not be the best in the world or anything like that. Plus there's like the whole concept of sometimes someone can be a bad a**, but they're not a great teacher, so i'd argue that you could pretty easily end up with a master at arms. That isn't like the best or even potentially might be detrimental, just like the way you could end up with a dojo instructor or a boxing instructor bowith it bullies the students or is just there, because he knows the master of the gym. You could easily get that with a master at arms. But all of that aside, even if you had a decent master it arms, it wouldn't necessarily mean that you would be a bad a** like we see plenty of people who are trained to fight in theory but and weren't that great. And then we see people who seemingly have put in a ton of work by themselves and gotten to be the best even if they're mastered, arms might have only been middle of the road like with Brienne. We don't really get any indication that her master at arms was like the best fighter in westeros. We just get the indication that he was a pretty decent trainer and probably came up with a good regiment for her. Even though it might have been fucking horrific, given that involved a lot of killing of lambs and shit 0_0 I suppose the overall point is that just being given the title master at arms doesn't necessarily mean you're. The greatest fighter might mean you're a good trainer. Might mean you're just pretty good at your job. Might mean you are very good fighter. Might mean none of those things. Might just mean youre not a Tyrell candidate... kind of depends on the individual.

Jon talks about Val and about Mance and says there is no kings blood for Melisandre to use from Mance, his is Brigand’s Blood not King’s Blood. Then Mormont’s raven starts yelling “Blood!” According to me, it’s Bloodraven in the Raven yelling blood to Jon when Mance and Val and kings are discussed bc Mance is Arthur Dayne Jon’s grandfather through Rhaegar and Val is Ashara Dayne’s daughterby Rhaegar. Martin is hitting us over the head with all these coded messages about Jon being king’s blood, Rhaegar being his father, Arthur Dayne being Rhaegar’s father, who is Mance, and their all being Dayne’s who need to fulfill the Azor Ahai prophecy and stop the long night. Even as this is all happening Jon is talking about Brqn is being dead out loud and Sam is thinking internally that Bran is really alive. Neither one realizing that when they turn to Mance, they will think he dies, when Mance really survives, and is really Arthur Dayne who they also think is dead, but really lives. And Jon is going to hear Stannis too is dead, when he is really alive, right before Jon is killed, but then comes back from death himself bc of Ghost, who is in the room with them w this scene happens. “Mance’s blood is no more royal than my own.” -Jon “Blood!” the bird screamed. Fire and blood, we might say.
GRRM really is the best at setting red herrings. There are so many events that either mirror or straight out emulate previous events in the history of westos. This is the reason there are so many theories for us to get lost in the universe that is YT

I don't think it's ever established that Jon's better than Rob in general, or the other way around. It's only said that jon sometimes bested rob,to cat's dismay, but I think they're meant to be seen as about equal. (Pretty talented but not Jaime or Loras)

Like id argue ser rodrick is a pretty decent man at arms, not the best but pretty darn good. Where as ser tallad had he been selected would have been very poor. Like sure he's good at beating up people who aren't masters yet but Bronn calls him out as repeating techniques in a really obvious way. That would get him killed in a fight with someone of Bronns level..
So like just even within the text. We can see that potential choices aren't always the best and even if you pick someone pretty good they might not be the best in the world or anything like that.
Plus there's like the whole concept of sometimes someone can be a bad a**, but they're not a great teacher, so i'd argue that you could pretty easily end up with a master at arms. That isn't like the best or even potentially might be detrimental, just like the way you could end up with a dojo instructor or a boxing instructor bowith it bullies the students or is just there, because he knows the master of the gym. You could easily get that with a master at arms.
But all of that aside, even if you had a decent master it arms, it wouldn't necessarily mean that you would be a bad a** like we see plenty of people who are trained to fight in theory but and weren't that great. And then we see people who seemingly have put in a ton of work by themselves and gotten to be the best even if they're mastered, arms might have only been middle of the road like with Brienne. We don't really get any indication that her master at arms was like the best fighter in westeros. We just get the indication that he was a pretty decent trainer and probably came up with a good regiment for her. Even though it might have been fucking horrific, given that involved a lot of killing of lambs and shit 0_0
I suppose the overall point is that just being given the title master at arms doesn't necessarily mean you're. The greatest fighter might mean you're a good trainer. Might mean you're just pretty good at your job. Might mean you are very good fighter. Might mean none of those things. Might just mean youre not a Tyrell candidate... kind of depends on the individual.

These silly notions are what I'm arguing against.
A master at arms, especially at a great castle like Winterfell would be beyond a black belt if you were to compare him to modern fighters. Just being a knight is like having a black belt while being a squire is having a white to brown belt, depending on how far your squire training is. I say this as someone who does BJJ, a martial art which is known for having the one of the hardest blackbelt to achieve in martial arts.
And just because you're a black belt doesn't mean you're invincible. There are high level purple and brown belts that are better than low level black belts in the same way how Peck and Jaime as squires were able to defeat knights.
Ser Tallad was kicking everyone's ass at the Red Keep and Bronn says "he's good but he's repetitive and that would be his downfall if he fought me"
First of all this is just Bronn claiming he could beat him, we don't actually know if he can beat Ser Tallad.
Second of all even if that's true Bronn himself is an excellent fighter so that's not really a dig to Ser Tallad at all.
Third of all Ser Tallad is like plan C, the obvious choice is Loras, Cersei says she can't chose a different kingsguard like Balon so ponders between 2 renowned hedge knights. Even plan C for the new master at arms is a good fighter is my point.
All I am claiming is Ser Tallad is a good fighter and not just "any loser with a sword" not that he is one of the greatest fighters in Westeros.

Yeah, My basic understanding of a lot of these theories is that people are kind of trying to work backwards from the idea that Jon's dad is still alive. And that they're gonna have some kind of big meet up. And it's going to be super important to the story..

Jon talks about Val and about Mance and says there is no kings blood for Melisandre to use from Mance, his is Brigand’s Blood not King’s Blood. Then Mormont’s raven starts yelling “Blood!” According to me, it’s Bloodraven in the Raven yelling blood to Jon when Mance and Val and kings are discussed bc Mance is Arthur Dayne Jon’s grandfather through Rhaegar and Val is Ashara Dayne’s daughterby Rhaegar. Which I think means Rhaegar slept with his Aunt unknowingly. But that’s crazy right in the contact of Jon. No Targaryen prince would unknowingly sleep with their sexy aunt, right?
To further complete the picture, this happens in Sam’s chapter in. A Feast for Crows when he visits Jon in “Jon’s Solar.” So Jon is sitting in his Solar/Day Room/Sun Ray Room, talking about Mance Rayder and kings blood, and the magical raven is screaming at Jon about his blood …being Arthur Dayne’s and Rhaegar’s / Ray-ghar’s. Martin is hitting us over the head with all these coded messages about Jon being king’s blood, Rhaegar being his father, Arthur Dayne being Rhaegar’s father, who is Mance, and their all being Dayne’s who need to fulfill the Azor Ahai prophecy and stop the long night.
Even as this is all happening Jon is talking about Brqn is being dead out loud and Sam is thinking internally that Bran is really alive. Neither one realizing that when they turn to Mance, they will think he dies, when Mance really survives, and is really Arthur Dayne who they also think is dead, but really lives. And Jon is going to hear Stannis too is dead, when he is really alive, right before Jon is killed, but then comes back from death himself bc of Ghost, who is in the room with them w this scene happens.

I just thing mance is supposed to be compared with rhaegar. Playing music and rallying the wildlings is similar how rhaegar might have been rallying lords to overthrow his father but that's it.
