Hello David. Thanks for your reaction. RM is the leader of BTS and the only one fluent in English. He is Korean born and raised and learned English by watching the Sitcom "Friends". He also speaks Japanese and is the main song writer/composer of BTS. He is a certified genius with an 148 IQ. For better appreciation of their voices I recommend their Japanese song "Film Out".

2:34 kpop is not a genre of music, it's industry that originated from Korea and has set of unique elements that can be identified as kpop. BTS mostly does pop music, but their roots are in hip hop, electronic, rap. They delve in rnb, neo soul, ballads, synth etc.
Ofcourse them being group of 7 people makes their songs unique structure wise and it can be a kpop feature cause most of kpop oriented towards groups that can be as big as 12+ people. Bit there are "kpop" soloists as well.

You do have the usual preconceived notions about them, I do understand where it comes from, but I hope you will listen to more of their own songs (they have over 300 as a group + each of them have solo songs)- they cover more than the usual pop songs you are thinking about. I recommend their korean songs, they have 3 songs 100% english and those are the most usual "pop songs" - the korean songs are mostly written/ composed/ produced by some of the members, so have deeper meanings (everyone will try to make you read the lyrics also, just so you know 🙂)

The synergy That BTS has is just amazing and I love how their voices are different from each other, each member bring something different to the table, they as soloists are so different and when they mix their voices and talents together is just on another whole level. Thank you for the reaction! 💜
I truly find BTS unique, their artistic identity is so strong and special. I mean, I do still listen to some other kpop songs sometimes and I had listened a lot for years and even used to stan others but I have to admit there's no one like them ngl. Nowadays I always end up getting bored bc of the repetitive songs of others discography, the meaningless lyrics, lack of originality or bc I just don't like their "sound" but that's just me. Oh and I also find BTS' performances the best! they ust have an amazing stage presence and you can feel their passion thorough their voices, they can do ca performance with crazy props and a crazy choreo or be there just sitting like this one and I would be totally entertained and satisfied, they just know how keep your attention and mesmerize you which I truly find very difficult when other artists perform in or out of kpop. I jknow that there's a lot of Armys who have similar thoughts but of course everyone has different taste 🤷🏻‍♂🤷🏻‍♂ (btw I'm not throwing hate but saying the main reasons why I find BTS special)

Loved your genuine response! I'm excited to see you discover more of BTS and find out that they are much much more than what is understood to be a "boyband" in the West. They are unlike anything you have perhaps seen in the sense that they have continuously strived to grow and evolve and will continue to do so. ARMYs, their fans, follow their lead in doing the same and that's what makes BTS special!

Thank you for sharing this reaction. I came over from your Stray Kids reaction and I am glad I did. BTS are the OG 3rd gen Kings and I know that SKZ really respect them, as they should. Their versatility as singers and rappers show through and created a nice, buoyant harmonies throughout this song and definitely placed a personal stamp on this touching song. I know they can dance as well but of course the vocals were top-notch.

BTS are multi-talented, humble & caring. Please always turn on your subtitles so you know exactly what they're saying as most of their songs are deep. I hope you start down the BTS rabbit hole. You will NEVER regret it. I am so thankful my daughter introduced me to them almost 4 years ago. Their music videos, choreo, dance practices, award shows, etc are always amazing! BTS are a group that is based in Hip Hop with 2 of the 3 Rapper who were originally part of the South Korea Hip Hop scene both as Rappers and Suga(aka Agust D) also as a producer. They don't have the normal Kpop sound nor do they Sing or Rap about the things most Kpop groups sing and rap about. They are not typical for Kpop group . They are a group of solo artists they all play at least one musical instrument all are Song Writers, Composers and Producers each to a greater or lesser extend and have complete creative freedom. Their lyrics are always important and if they sample anything they pay for the samples unlike most of kpop. They had coaching and taught the history of Hip Hop from Coolio, Warren G, and Tony Jones. Each member has a different voice one one you said has a interesting voice is V he's the jazz lover and plays the saxophone. They'll use whatever genre they like and will mix them as they see fit. They are not what people expect when someone hears the term 'Kpop'.

These guys didn't train from early age to be idols (the exception may be the youngest Jungkook). I don't think any of them planned to be in an idol group. Two of them were trained professionally as dancers. Two were underground rappers. One was in school for acting but was approached on the street to audition for Big Hit and one only went to an audition to support a friend and was asked to try out. So the dynamics of this group is unique to Kpop. They did train together for years after making the group and became brothers. Each member is different and brings something different to the group. That's what makes them so special and is why ARMY adores them so.

Check out his older solo songs (Euphoria, My Time), his newer solo songs (3D, Standing Next to You, and actually his entire new album Golden!) and his beautiful songs with BTS where he shines (Truth Untold and House of Cards). Then you also noticed the deeper full voice and that is Taeyhung (V). He has one of the most unusual smooth tones of any modern singer. Check out his older solo songs (Stigma and Winter Bear), his newer solo songs (Slow Dancing, Love Me Again and especially a jazz UA-cam video he did "Le Jazz de V") and his songs with BTS (Spring Day and Blue and Grey). The commenter above was spot-on with all the info - except when you mentioned the very high "head voice", you were actually hearing Jin - Kim Seokjin - not Jungkook. JK is a phenomenal singer and he does indeed do a lot of their guide vocals and has an amazing range, but Jin was singing the high part there. Also an incredibly talented singer and known for his lovely "silver voice". He has solo songs on BTS albums (Abyss, Tonight, Epiphany) and also released a track with Coldplay right before enlisting last year, called "The Astronaut". He'll be the first out of the military in June 2024.

They have attributes that are reminiscent of boy bands... BTS and similar groups are the result of entertainment evolution and all "pop groups" are somewhere on that family tree. For someone like myself, being exposed for the first time, without exposure to current pop music, its the best resource i'm familiar with to use as a comparison. I'm sorry if that's taboo, as it says on the thumbnail, its a blind reaction by a working performer. If i'm not singing it, or learning it to sing it in the future, i'm most likely not listening to it because i need a break, so i don't get out much.

Thank you for your reaction to BTS. I was a bit confused because you said that you had not delved into KPop but spoke like you know what style of music BTS has. Do you know? People, including myself, think that KPop is pop music but KPop is an industry. KPop bands sing diverse genres, not just pop. For instance, BTS music incorporates heavy through to ballads, edm, neo soul, hip hop, RnB etc etc. I hope you check out more BTS songs. The 7 member band includes 3 rappers and 4 vocalists. They all write, compose, and produce music.
RM, the leader (the role is more like a sports team captain than like a lead singer) is the only member fluent in English, although the others are learning and getting better. He is a genius (literally, IQ 148) and taught himself English by watching the American show, Friends.

It was a first time viewing a performance from BTS, and wanted it to be genuine when I viewed so I did not cheat and went in to it with zero insight, exactly as I say on the thumbnail. I did not mean to come across comparing them to Boy Bands, they are far more than a reincarnation of an old brand. I simply utilized boy bands to explain a point thoroughly. BTS is 100% their own entity and brand, i apologize if i was unclear. My videos are only trying to give insight on what goes in to making an amazing performance amazing from the perspective of someone with years of training, insight and experience in the industry. Thanks for taking the time to comment :-)

RM became fluent in English by watching, 'Friends'. I think all Koreans learn English at school but school English is not good. RM's English is so different to the other members of BTS none of whom are fluent. Their English is quite heavily accented but improving. Some of the K-Pop stars are non native Koreans, (like Felix of Stray Kids) or have been to school in the States or elsewhere so they are totally fluent in English like, Tablo (Epik High)and Taecyeon (2PM) who both studied in the States.

Nobody forgot the original song by the police. BTS did not cover “I’ll be watching you” they covered the rewrite “I’ll be missing you”. Not bad.
But it seems you do not know what "K-pop" is:
    try:
bby gang mag "BTS vs. K-pop" which has a section about it. (he has also done quiet a few interesting video essays)
BTS do all kinds of genres but come from Hiphop.
There are similarities with the 90s boygroups but a lot of them are superficial.
You have to see one of their full performances like for "Black Swan" or "On" to understand the difference.
It helps also when you know they do amazing concept work over multiple albums and have told till 2020 a story of coming of age: in school, youth under hardship, literatur/philosophical, self-love- psychological. They also dropped a pandemic album.
Afterwards it gets a little complicated because SK politicians, Covid and oportunities like the Grammys - even a law made for them - delayed some of their planed solo work and military service (some of the members are at the moment serving) - which they began to get into last summer. They will come back in 2025 - they have recently signed a new contract.
They write (or are at least heavily involved) and even partly produce their own output.
Declaring them just a pop boyband is like saying the Bealtes had some success:
Paul McCartney was asked in an interview for the promotion of his own music if he believed that "authentic" musicians still existed - the implication was that there wasn't - and he named BTS.
Taylor Mari has a short intro called the bangtan 7
    You nice! Keep going! 💜

But i think it's fair for people to point that out. Many reactors will listen to any Korean group and blanket statement, 'ohhh, so this is kpop'. No, this is BTS. But in the end you did say that THEY put their own brand on it, so fair enough. :D

Your idea of what KPop is IMO couldn't be further from what it is... I know the western music industry likes to try and compare them to boybands from the 90s and the early 2000s but I think KPOP is so much more than that.. Suga of BTS describes it like this "K-pop includes not just the music, but the clothes, the makeup, the choreography…all these elements I think sort of amalgamate together in a visual and auditory content package" no offense to the Backstreet boys or N'sync but they couldn't do what these KPOp groups are doing... KPOP more of an industry and not a genrer

I’m not using opinions or subjective feelings on these videos, using group bands of the 90s is simply because it’s the closest comparison I can use. Also, please be aware that you’re watching a blind reaction, I’ve not heard them, heard of them, or ventured in to that very large world of entertainment… so I’m learning as I go. I give insights from a professional in the industry, i know BTS are a result of the evolution of western boy bands, K-Pop as brand to everything that worked from western groups and improved it for their audience… music is connected to each other by its very design. So factually, Boy Bands are incredibly relevant and connected. It’s simply a fact of the design, it’s a fact of all modernizations, but it doesn’t mean Kpop isn’t unique in a million ways that groups of the 90s would have never dreamed.
I do this because I have 20 years of knowledge from both experience and training, there are objective factors in this line of work as there are in every other, and I base my reviews off of those

@@DavidBraileyLive Objectively speaking Kpop itself actually originated in the early 90s (starting in '91) by a group call Seo Taiji and Boys who fused western hiphop, rock & EDM w/ choero and Korean and evolved from there and not typical western boy bands like Nsync, Backstreet Boys etc. Per a Vice Article titled, "Seo Taiji and Boys Pioneered Socially Conscious K-Pop for Groups like BTS" (2017)..."The industry standard of experimenting with sound, dance, and fashion came from Seo Taiji. Even now, we see their influence in groups like NCT 127 and BTS, the latter of which is arguably the biggest name in K-pop today. Recently, BTS's staggering popularity has been linked to the group's socially conscious lyrics. But in this, as in many other respects, they are following in the footsteps of Seo Taiji."

He wrote the original, yes. So I suppose a better way to title it is BTS cover P-Diddy and Faith Hill’s cover of Sting’s I’ll be missing you. That’s a mouthful. Lol

    It's not K-pop, but it's called Forestella
    Crossover groups are also recommended.
    Forestella is a phenomenal group.
There are also a lot of cover songs, including Bohemian Rhapsody, Badromance, Despacito, KOOL, Phantom of the Opera, White Night, and Nella Fantasia. You'll never regret anything you hear. I'm also looking forward to Forestella's story soon. For your information, Forestella is also a Korean
