  • Today in the shed, Sticks gives us step-by-step instructions, tips, and tricks on how to smoothly install the Heed engine skid plate kit for the Aprilia Tuareg 660! This is a high quality product for the relatively low cost, and offers great protection to the engine and exhaust in the event of a bottom-out or tip-over.

Very good instructions! I did the whole Heed crash bars and skid plate install the exact way you explained it some weeks ago. As mentioned before, also my OEM exhaust cover bolt was tricky to remove. Had to use my impact driver for getting this loose. And I was glad having my ratchet wrenches. I used blue loctite for all bolts.
Oil change needed 8 screws to be removed - no chance changing the filter with the skid plate attached. My dealer had no issies with that at 1st inspection.
I like the quality and the price of the parts. No fear with concrete obstacles and bottoming out on them.

I'm going to pick up my Tuareg in 4 days and am conducting my preliminary study regarding the accessories I want to install. An absolutely excellent video you have made with good advice. I think the Heed bash plate is one of the uglier ones....but it seems to be well constructed which is the important thing. I hope you are happy with all the Heed accessories you have fitted, I will probably choose the same equipment on my bike.

Really thorough. Planning on getting the Heed skid plate (and crash bars). So this was welcome. Thanks!

That looks cool, but are you going to have to take off the skid plate to change the oil?

    Thanks. Useful video.
Just an FYI - The OEM rear bolts are 10mm rather than 13mm which probably represent the bolts that came with the Heed lower guards that Sticks had installed earlier.

HAve the heed skid plate, 1 is cheap, 2 if the bottom gets hit, the bolt head will deform that you cannot remove it... I brought a HDPE marine 1/4" plate and used silicon and 4 bolts to hold it, so the bolts heads are covered and also protects... is fine for the price

Thank you so much! I followed your instructions and they were perfect. I did have a problem, removing the cover over the cat and ended up rounding out the head. Got it out eventually and found that it had been secured with red thread locker which is over kill for a bolt of this type IMO. Also I went out and bought a 13mm ratchet spanner. After using a regular spanner to install the crash bars, it was money well spent! It was also possible to tighten the lower right bolt with the skid plate attached using the ratchet spanner (yes, I forgot to tighten it before final install). Have you added any protection to the hoses on the left side of the bike? I am worried there may be some friction there and not sure what protection I could add.

Hello, thanks for you video. it helped me to put the new engine plate. I'm curious about the temperature that come from the cata and the engine. Do you have the same issue ? if yes. do you have some advice that can lower the temperature ? i was thinking about using wrap heat to reduce the temperature. Here if the temperature is above 25 ° celsius the temperature of the moto begin to be not confortable at all. thanks for your help.
