when he said he found a guitar signed by steve vai in the 'recycler', i thought he meant he found it in the dumpster. I looked it up, and The Recycler is a buy-sell guitar magazine in los angeles.
in the dumpster would be funny but awesome
Metallica used The Recycler to post an ad looking for a lead guitarist. Dave Mustaine got the job.
Used to be the go-to for forming a band/finding musicians, the internet was just starting to replace it when I first came to town in 2000...I think they were like 2.50
Same place Kurt found his left handed Jag
Yeah, we all knew that except for you
Munky, Kirk Hammett and Chris Cornell could have played the Three Musketeers
Or jack sparrow
The Three Kirk-eteers
They are like brothers
And Dave Navarro as Dartanian.
This is good, reminds me of that korn/Scooby-Doo themed South Park lol
Munky is great guy. I had the chance to talked to him in Quito´s Airport in 2010. I love his signature guitars, all of them.
Vastly underrated guitarist in the world of rock. Maybe it’s because he’s so humble. He’s the mind behind most Korn riffs and also came up with the chorus vocals for the hit song Got The Life.
Actually hes not the mind behind most of korns riffs lmao head left the band, and korns sound drastically changed. Head came back and notice how they start to sound like korn again? Definitely not a coincidence. Head is the main riff guy. If you need more proof go listen to the song chemicals by his band love and death. If i didnt know already that it wasnt korn i woulda thought it was.
@@bradk6170 You obviously have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Head has even said in many interviews that Munky has written most of the heavy Riff stuff that they've kept n the releases over the years and head usually comes up with the high pitch creepy stuff. It's very easy to do research if you take 5 minutes to actually look stuff up b4 making yourself look like a complete moron. 😂😂😂😂😂
@@6jizza6whizza6 watch who then now. head and dave were the main talent skills wise.
@@bradk6170 Head has a knack for writing metal riffs. Munky is more of a funk rock/hard rock guitarist. They are both so good but you're right, Head has always been known as the most talented member of the band. In fact, he might be the best nu metal guitarist of all time, he's got my vote. Munky does seem to have more on stage confidence than Head does though.
@@leadme2thebliss21prime Head were beast and hits different
Steve Vai also mentioned his love for Korns use of 7- strings in their debut album, both loyal, and respective of each others talents, what great guys.
Have you seen the video of them jamming together?
He also pulled his truck over on the side of the road when he heard Blind for the first time on the radio back when it first came out.
Munky was a big asset to korn over the years I think. He's not a technical guitar player but he's probably the reason the band had a lot of interesting chord progressions and wasn't just all chunky riffs and power chords.
I’ve had my BK777UV since 2009. And it’s a 98. Still in excellent condition. I got because of Korn.
You & Head inspired me to buy my first Ibanez 7 string,I've never ever regretted it.What power and sound
7 strings are so much fun to play.
Same here! I didn’t know how to play 6 string. I got the 7 string anyway, they are too badass!!!
@@fg1astro824 There is nothing wrong with starting with a 7 string. It's all about what you prefer and what style you prefer to play.
@@leadme2thebliss21A guitarist buddy said they always go out of tune.
It's because of Korn that I got interested in 7-string guitars. I now have one. I saw four 7-string guitars: an Ibanez, an Schechter, an ESP, and a Jackson. The Ibanez was the one I got because it was the best one I saw.
I'm sorry, the correct answer was ibanez because Korn.
dude same here! for the 7 string reason. I don't have one right now but today I played a 7 string ibanez and I was blown away by how good it played and sound because I was originally wanting a schecter 7 string but now I'm hooked on ibanez 7 strings. they just sound so awesome! and play great!
Guitar Pick Yeah Ibanez was the first to commercially sell the 7-string, 8-string, and now the 9-string guitar. I recently saw two 7-string Dean guitars, one was a Dimebag Darrell style ML. I also saw a picture of Munky playing a 7-string Epiphone Les Paul. Those were interesting, but Ibanez is still my favorite.
David Rinden Yea I I've heard things with ibanez and the extended range guitars. I've alway thought as schecter being the best extended range guitars but ibanez is definetly better. And I haven't seen many 7 string deans but I have seen 7 string epipohnes before. But I agree ibanez are my new favorite guitar company for sure
ESP does make some great 7 strings. Better than schecter in my opinion
2:50 - Haha! So amusing to see Munky painting his custom guitar like a primary student. Thankfully, the guitar itself turned out great in the end.
I use Blaze pickups in my 7-string and I really love them!
I have still my apex. It’s awesome!!! The diMarzios are the best humbucker I ever tried. Thanks Ibanez.
Pog
I have this poster of both Head and Muky's Ibanez 7-strings which was in a mid nineties edition of Guitar World. That picture shows both guitars Munky is talking about: A black one with green pickups where the original pickguard was replaced with a pickguard with only the bridge pickup and a white one with disappearing pyramid inlays.
Head's guitars are a similar White one with "Korn" in red letters on the upper horn (yup, that's the one he can be seen using in the videos for "Blind", "Shoots and ladders" and "Clown") which had the neck and middel pickups removed, leaving the open holes in the pickguard, his second guitar in that picture is an S-model seven string which Munky uses in the video for "Blind"
cool video. really liking the new APEX models.
munky kinda looks like kirk hammet
with less wah
and ritchie valence
you are!
Kirk Hammett and Chris Cornell
nope 10 second songs
Stainless steel pick guard now that is literally metal.
Thank you for inspiration Munky 🤘
Came along way y'all blessed now
I cant wait to get my hands on the APEX200
Same here mate, same here! Played a UV70P (Vai's new signature 7) and that was awesome - love it. Really keen on seeing how this baby stacks up :)
Yeah when you see the price, at 4 grand for this guitar lol!!!
DigitalMarauder Wow, 4 grand?! I expected it to be around 3 grand max... are you talking USD?
Yes USD
DigitalMarauder Then that's a huge amount...surely worth it - Ibanez MIJ (Made In Japan) after all ;)
Cool looking guitars! Great one Munky!
munk a dunk!! i friggin love koRn!!!
awesome vid. Also has anyone told you look like Tomi Joutsen lead singer for Amorphis. Do you know who they are? Just wondering because they are one of my favorite bands along with Korn 🤘🏻
i gosh dang love munky so much !
Munky and Head are the reasons why I play Ibanez guitars
Really? I love korn, I have a 7 string but they aren't technical players
@@rockyevans1584 and? what does that has to do with anything :D many people prefer simple / odd / catchy / fun to play riffs opposed to technical or fast
@@wm1573 as I said, I love Korn. There's just a reality to their level of proficiency, and most people who pick up guitar are looking to progress. Once you've learned all the Korn songs you want, probably around the 15 minute mark of your first day playing, most people would desire to continue their progress at which point picking an instrument based off players who can really barely play guitar seems a bit short sighted. I love Ibanez too, it's just the logic used here that I'm struggling to understand haha
@@rockyevans1584bro things can just sound good, and if you're into 7 strings and korn enough to get that proficient at their songs then you're gonna naturally find more 😭
@@cian9479 they make Kurt Cobain look like a virtuoso haha.
Its crazy he didnt even demonstrate it.
Wouldn't mind the APEX20 looks smart, I wanted the K-7 back in the day when that was on the go but could never afford one :( I currently have a RG7221, have had the RG7321 (first 7 string I got) then a S7420 \m/
That is a sick looking guitar.
Looks great
OMFG!!!! I just had my very own Ibanez Apex 7string!!!! & ppl I have say, researching it on Internet I found 90%comments said
1. Nech very wide
2. This guitar will either make you regret HUGE price paid, & you can't play it!
OR you will f*****g love it!
I definitely the 2nd, I finding it's distance from low 7th to 2nd or 1st string is difficult mental gear shift I struggling with BUT I amv. Persistent!!!
This guy barely play an instrument all these years, but he is great composer and that is what is all about. And I have great respect for him.
So what Munky is really saying is go buy an actual Steve Vai Universe model with Dimarzio Blaze Pickups.....
Sure
Mungky is different he is an trendseter.. U are my hero.. \m/
I would totally buy the 20 model, but used, on ebay or something. Still hard to find a guitar with the options I like at $500 or less.
you are the 7 strings heroooo
I dream about this guitar... Right now I have a Schecter C-7 that I really like, but I would trade it to the APEX20 right away if I had this model selling in Brazil... =(
Not one for signature guitars and I'm not. Huge Korn fan now a days but I love these guitars
1:22 omg it's Bane!! ;)
he retired from taking venom steroids and started making guitars
Wow, such a cool guitar! I play 80's glam metal and blues and I want an APEX 200. I love it. The HS pickup config is my favorite. Nice matte colors. Just looks awesome.
Love Munky!
Sickkk i would fuckin love a guitar like that!
Was munky driving that kouki s14?
I REALLY wanted the exact same for the same reason. Still do, except I don't sell crack.
Munky rules!
WOW!
Anyone know if the is available for left handed guitarist like myself?
NICE!!!
Munky is always calm.
Kirk Hammet's lost brother
kirk + chris cornell
Sounds like him
Munky Hammet
Wow Munky actually knows how to explain his signature line and he actually sounds knowledgeable and knows his instrument shocker. Yet Feidly on the other hand on his videos sounds completely clueless.
Biga173rd Check his old interview with Head, they were young and high as fuck, Fieldy on the other hand, I think he's high on religion.
Adam Warlock Haha for real lol.
I'm pretty sure a Jr. Yamaha doesn't have a 5 piece neck or a Lowpro floating tremelo. Not to mention, apples to oranges.
Biga173rd feildy admittedly says he never plays except for like the day before the show. This really doesmt surprise me. I think he's in it for more cool factor then knowledge.
Adam Warlock Head is the one high on religion. He's nuts in that sense
Vai was the reason I wanted to switch to a 7 string as well, back in the day.....When "The Ultra Zone" came out. I think I was 14? But I'm definitely a Basswood guy.....Alder just has too much going on in the Mid area...Basswood can get MANY sounds as long as you turn EQ it correctly....Almost between Alder and Mahogany.....But, I am a huge fan of H/S pickup arrangements on RG styles though.
Why they discontinued k7
luvs it
this man is a monster on tha 7 string
This dude is Kirk Hammett's long lost brother 😂 They remind me so much of one another. They're like surfer chill dudes.
Wait was that Muky drifting?? If so we need to hang out!!
Kid named out:
God that guy is so cute ❤️ Too bad I was looking at him more than I was the guitars.
I don't know a thing about 7-string guitars. What is the name of the 7th string below E (when it is in standard tuning)?
B
+Frank Homma It's essentially a baritone with an added high e string.
+Walter Harris In munky's case, the 7 string is tuned down a step to an A
+Nick Brommer Nah, the entire guitar is tuned down a step - ADGCFAD, essentially A Standard.
Does anyone know the title of the song thats playing in this?
Spike in my veins
my life dream is to one day meet munky and get my ibanez signed by him
Nice guitar s
Nicely spoken Munky
Just noticed - is that a non-Premium, Custom Shop Universe neck in that rack? :D
munky! the feat with the second guitar master Younès Grandjean is for when?
what's the song in the background?
casperado666 it's from the korn album ( the paradigm shift) can't remember the name of the song
thanks bro
spike in my veins instrumental
Great new guitars by Ibanez and my bro Munky! Just can't wait to get my hands on one :)
So Munky and I have TWO things in common - GUITARS and CARS - a w e s o m e \o/
My biggest flex is my parents are tight with him!!
Fuuuuuuuck, I don't even like Korn and I'm GASing for an Apex200. The thing is nail-bitingly beautiful.
is it a 6 strings version of APEX 200??
No. Korn use 7 string guitars only
+Suzukikawasaki69 I believe they have a few 8 string songs.
Alder wood is great for dark, warm tones.
+Mexi Sexroid like a smooth diarrhea
I love Ibanez Icemen. 🖤
David says hi..
Korn is the reason i have a 5 string bass
But the Ibanez Apex200 is my dream guitar because you had a part in it's design and I do not play
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Anyone used apex20? Is it good?
Alice says my well being is the priority
Munky and Ibanez RG7200 7 string like a cold blooded assassin
the 200
nice one ! go MuNkY
Gimme that
He is looking good, lost weight etc.
Danthehorse I guess, but he was always skinny.
Cool guitar, can u play it?
Steve Via is the best!!
The Apex is affordable? It's a fixed-bridge guitar without even locking nuts for a ridiculous amount. You can get a fixed-bridge RG7621 for cheap and they're basically the same thing.
Munky the best
This man put Ibanez back on the map and I would love to live his awesome rockstar life for just a day, as pathetic as it sounds...., I don't give a fuck....
Looks like Bob Marely in the thumbnail.
wow..Some of these comments..
KEEP CASHING THEM CHECKS JAMES!
MY GODDAMN IDOL... 3:06
süper gitar ya. param olsada alsam
Fast race car...like John Petrucci's new guitar.....
If I played I'd get one..KORN ROKS
Why do Kirk Hammett and Munky look so alike?
It's no longer mahogany? Fortunately I've bought Apex 2 with mahogany body...
7 strings :O
Come on Munky no whammy bar
It actually comes with a Ubar and a whammy bar.
Wish it came left handed too.
Expensive the J Custom is almost same price.
Funny how Steve Vai is often credited with bringing the 7-string guitar into the spotlight, but jazz players like George Van Eps had been playing a 7-string axe long before Steve was a blip on the radar screen.
I mean, there are a lot of weird instruments musicians play everyday. Doesn't mean they were it was used musically in what the Library of Congress would consider "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". Vai brought the 7-string into mainstream rock and metal, and Korn cemented it.
Plenty of guitarists used the Fender Stratocaster upon release. But did anybody perform with it the way Jimi Hendrix did? No.
+6672rock George Van Eps is often credited as The Father of the Seven String, but he was just a blip on the radar, realistically. Steve Vai was inspired by Van Eps to start playing seven strings, but Vai was also the first big name artist to use one. George Van Eps is now looked back as a pioneer, but he didn't have a huge name, really.
He looks like Steven Tyler if he had dreads and didn't do coke
NATE DOGGY DOGG he looks just lie Munky from KoRn
Jeremy Hilton oh whos that
Steven tyler on meth
NOOOOOO! WHAT? NO!! OH FUK
I can see I can see that you're already blind.
