Depends on the model. The NES-001 does have A/V jacks but I believe the top loader does not.
I have done this with my portable DVD player and it works really good! ;)
With the 3.5 stereo/video cable you don't need the female-to-female splitter. It will plug right into the NES. With other consoles, you will need it.
if this works, it'll make camping out in my car so much more bearable!
Ok thanks. I tried it yesterday without the coupler and all I got was a blue screen and it was on AV IN and I was wondering why it wasn't working but it was because I didn't have the coupler. Yes. If it has compatible connections (A/V) you can hook up anything. It's just like a TV. It's a monitor, really. You can do anything with A/V cables.

@Bhargav31993. They actually sell DVD players that specifically come with video game controllers/and ports for them. It was either a Phillips or RCA.. I was just at Walmart and seen these.It came with a game CD as well. I'm certain you can play yours on this DVD player. It was around 95$. That's if u can't get a joystick to work.

Hello! Thanks for uploading this video, great information. My portable DVD player has the yellow, white and red A/V cables, but the slot specifically says "A/V OUT." There isn't a switch mode. Can I plug my XBox 360 A/V cables directly into the player and it will work? OR do I still have to purchase the 3-way coupler to make it work? A detailed response would be greatly appreciated!

Have the same exact units as you. I didn't buy av input cable plus a coupler, I just bought cables with the jack and av couplers already built in. All I get is sound with no picture, the DVD player works, the Nes works, and the cables work so why no picture. Does anyone have any solutions or suggestions?

so my dvd is a durabrand 9 inch dvd player but it dosent have a av in, it just has the colors yellow red, white, and the s video slot where would i turn on the av in?

hi i have portable dvd player . And i recently bought a 300 in 1 nes games cd. iam able to open the games in my dvd player but when i try to play them its askng for cntrller . My dvd player doesnt have cntrller ports for nes cntrller but it have usb ports can i use a pc joystick to play them ?

mint tip i will use this idea on my next holiday but why do you need the 3 way fem 2 fem coupler could you not just be able connect the dvd av lead directly into the nes ?

for an NES no need for the coupler. It can go right to the side of the console. Otherwise great video!

Hi, Henry! So we're using a Venturer PVS3361 portable DVD player, really old, lol! My son is trying to play his XBox 360 using the DVD player as a monitor as you did in your demo video. I see the path for using the coupler. Where we're confused, we don't have an A/V selection on the menu, so we don't have the ability to switch as you're suggesting. We have a built-in (on the side of the DVD player) red, yellow, and white, A/V plugs. Any suggestions?

I have a trutech 7" dvd player with females on the outside and whenever I try to hook it up to my gamecube, it plays the music but says "no disc" on the blank screen.

I don't know what kind of DVD player you have, but I'm staring at four different models I'm front of me ranging from SONY, to JVC, to Sylvania, and NONE of them have AV in. Only AV out.

My portable Phillips DVD player only has an "AV OUT" port. No "AV IN". Doesn't work.
Those are called "composite". Fun fact: Only the yellow one carries video, the other two are for audio.

Come on seriously just think about this for a second if you want to do this completely portable away from the house you obviously need a few certain things or if you would want to do this in your house obviously you would need a different set of things.
