Dusty singing right with The Rev.Willie G.. A great singer, bassist and I'm sure a great guy. God Bless You Joe Michael "Dusty" Hill From the bottom to the Top. 50 Years
I can remember watching this as a teenager...and being so unhappy when the credits came up as I wanted it to go on forever. Never seen anything like this, and went out and bought Eliminator and the entire back catalogue. Still listen to those albums now, especially this, Tres Hombres, Deguello and Fandango. Seen them live a few times too. I remember thinking in 1983 THIS is how a guitar should sound. I haven't changed my opinion.
As a thirteen year old at the time Eliminator was released, I thought these guys came out of nowhere. Thought they were a couple of mechanics who got famous overnight. Lol ...Didn’t know they had a back catalog a mile long already. Long live ZZ Top!
R.I. P. Dusty Hill ❤ You are most definitely missed by all of your loyal fans and family. ZZ Top’s not the same anymore without your legendary high notes on every single track you sang from the debut album to the final concert you ever played at. I will never see them again because of your no longer being present. 🪦
Rock -N-Roll Royalty. This one of the only bands that was a N0.1through the 80'$ .That did'nt have long hair & make up.I was a metal head ,but I loved ZZ T0P ever since I,was like 3 0r 4.Tejas then Blue Jean Blues .Me & my twin brother would laugh through the whole song. When 5 or 6 a man sing'n about finding his ol'blue jeans was the funniest song to us.We thought he knew them from the from the oil & gas stains. When I got to be 14 yrs.old,I realized he new the jeans because of his hot a** girlfriend was in them Billy had to repo those or liberate those jeans.Miss ya Dusty.Love all the members of ZZ TOP..Rock-N-Roll your Blues forever...
Miss you Dusty! Great bass sound, great voice, a fantastic person. ZZTop means so much to me, helped me go through tough times in my life. I save Dusty a special place in my heart forever...
rest in peace Dusty Hill... what a tone Billy has here filthy dirty, I absolutely love ZZ only saw them live once when i was 12 i think on the eliminator tour at victoria hall Hanley Stoke on Trent UK. apparently a couple of nights after this tv footage was filmed.
I'm a big ZZ fan, and a guitar player who often does their songs in my bands. Seen them many times including last fall in Vegas and we're going to see them in Loveland in June. But I don't think I've ever heard this song sound as amazing as it does here. Perfect speed, mixing, sound and energy. My new favorite Under Pressure.
My dad would always tell about when his band opened for ZZ Top in 1983. Being from Mississippi he had never seen so many people in one place. This was always one of his favorite bands and still is one of mine.
Bill Gibbons rocks. Best 'dirty' guitar tone in the business. And he somehow gets it by doing everything 'wrong' according to the experts : light gage strings and hollowed out solid bodies so that his guitars are not so heavy.
Billy Gibbons has probably had the most consistently fat badass electro-fried tone of any electric players ever. It's changed in nuanced ways over the years. Sometimes fatter, sometimes more badass but always had that spine-whacking thing that said "ELECTRIC".
Ah yeah...these guys have fun and deliver that Texas tea ...black gold...sweet screaming guitars, grown man voices, DRUM beat to move them feet...amps by Marshall!! And that's how its done up right. Uncle Billy would smoke Ywangie for breakfast
yeah they didn't put out live concert footage much early on. Some is out there, but they were hard playing cash and carry live show maniacs. That's how it was, pre-net. I saw em in '72, at a lake keg party, playing off a flatbed trailer. They showed up for the shear hell of it. Like, nobody had cell cameras, you know?
Just noticed, the vocal of Sharp Dressed Man is mimed. If you put headphones on and listen carefully you can bear billy muttering the lyrics in his speaking voice, whilst the record vocals is louder.
there's a tape running in back for sure. listen on the intro to Gimme all Your Lovin' - the bend to the high C is in the mix, but he ain't playing it. tbh don't care, seismic thing at the time - remember sitting in front of small black and white TV in my parent's dining room and thinking 'wtf, this is so so not Joy Division, but I LOVE IT'
@@klfaregonnarocku Lol could you imagine if Ian Curtis lived through the 80s and Joy Division became a hit band with huge power chords and synths opening for The Cars and ZZ Top or something. Then in 1984 their hit song "Pleasure Women" would get released and is produced by Mutt Lange.
In Rowland Rivron's autobiography he says how disapointed he was when he was at the studio when ZZ Top mimed without a drummer on the tube....er.....Rowland, may I present exhibit A?
Never seen them perform with such verve as this. Billy's even singing live on the first two songs... Sharp Dressed Man sounds like a vocal track though...
Yes I noticed that too. It sounds identical to the record. They've done it on every "live" version of Legs from the 80s until now. Maybe he can't reach those notes outside of a recording studio? Epic performance though. Before seeing this I only knew ZZ Top because of the funny name.
Without reading the comments, just watching this cold for the first time, I could tell this was overseas and old, just by the faces up front. Wad of wannabes
remember watchin this live then driving 40 odd miles on the saturday 2 get tickets man that tone on his guitar is brutal its like hes using a pig nose as a distortion pedal through a great amp,it blazes, awesome
That guitar is on ultimate crunch mode ... best live performance ever on British TV 📺
Love the guitar tone , the best right there with Iron Maiden Powerslave tone!!!
Agreed love the muddy distortion
Billy Gibbons is one of the best guitar players ever.
was :)
softstyler I remember watching them on the Telly
Phangmaster Still is
Right up there with the best but Rory was no 1
He IS the greatest...Jimi said so
The height of their career....this performance is beyond incredible. Still just an intriguing group. ZZ Top is incredible
Indeed
Gibbon's guitar tone is unreal!
RIP Dusty Hill. One of the all time greats in an all time great band.
Dusty singing right with The Rev.Willie G..
A great singer,bassist and I'm sure a great guy.
God Bless You Joe Michael "Dusty" Hill
From the bottom to the Top. 50 Years
Billy's vocals were dead on in this performance. So good I had to watch his lips.
Rawest, loudest and best live versions of these songs I've ever heard. Can't believe this was 1983!
take no prisoners...'83 was a big year!
I can remember watching this as a teenager...and being so unhappy when the credits came up as I wanted it to go on forever. Never seen anything like this, and went out and bought Eliminator and the entire back catalogue.

Same age brother and love them more at 51 than 13. One of my all time favorite and appreciate them even more now.
The little ol' band from Texas that has a big place in my heart. RIP, Dusty. Their music never gets old, just better.
Saw this live on TV and absolutely blew me away. Bought Eliminator the next day and never looked back. Saw them at Donington in 85. Brilliant
I bet there’s not a person in the crowd that ever thought we would be listening to some of the greatest music from ‘83. Pure gold!!!!

These dudes were seriously from another planet. Mind Blown!!!
So awesome...explosive guitar tone, ready to detonate, band tight and loud as hell. God Bless Texas and ZZ Top.

I saw this tour in Birmingham Alabama in 83.Great show
I remember seeing this aged 15, and being totally blown away by it. Just outstanding music.
Jesus I was 15! Blew me the shit away too. Knew right then how I wanted to look when I get old.
Miss you Dusty! Great bass sound, great voice, a fantastic person. ZZTop means so much to me, helped me go through tough times in my life. I save Dusty a special place in my heart forever...
Awesome! Still can't accept Dusty has gone.
First time I saw/heard ZZ Top...blew me away, still does - Respct Dusty Hill
These songs are just as FRESH NOW AS THEY WERE IN 1983 NEVER GETS OLD LIKE A LOT OF OTHER SONGS FROM OTHER BANDS!!
Pop culture was so cool in the 70s and 80s, what the heII happened?
Love the raw sound with distinctive bass here -- LOVE IT
It's a synthesizer - Hill is clearly miming, as the band often did.
@@VambeefcoHorzey You should look up one of their rig rundowns.
@@frisconotomato Sure, doesn't negate the fact they often mimed and leaned heavily on technology in the 80s.
rest in peace Dusty Hill... what a tone Billy has here filthy dirty, I absolutely love ZZ only saw them live once when i was 12 i think on the eliminator tour at victoria hall Hanley Stoke on Trent UK. apparently a couple of nights after this tv footage was filmed.
Imagine them playing in the back room of your local pub .
That's what this utube video reminds me off .
Absolutely BAD-ASS!!!!
Eliminator is top five all-time albums for me.
I agree. When Jimi Hendrix says that he wishes he could play as well as well as Billy what more needs to be said
wow what a great performance, very tight. lucky crowd

Two horns🤘🤘for Dusty Hill... R.I.P.
This was a smash CD . This made. ZZ TOP. so much money . I was 2 years into the Air Force and Eliminator. Was played. Everywhere ..

Incredible performance.
Tone to the bone!
GeeeeZZ theeZZ guyZZ are good ❤️
These guys might make it big some day
I would’ve loved it if they would’ve played Legs here. A super raw, fuzzy, in your face hard rockin version of it would’ve been so badass
This is something I never saw. Awesome. Thanks for sharing this. 👍
Light years ahead of their time and space...😯

Timeless 🤘
Been a fan along time and kinda forgot how awesome they are keep these vids coming!!

Good performance!
ON FIRE here. God damn!
About as cool as cool was in 1983
One of the few decent live recordings I've heard by Top.
+matthewervvin They had to perform, somebody had gone to a lot of effort sticking that cardboard backdrop together :D
Hardly live.
Please watch the 1980 Rockpalast show.

Nice!

Did they use the vocals from the record for sharper dress man?
