Best 650 680 engine videos on UA-cam!!! Thank you for making this and the assembly video. Huge help for us diy guys.
Thanks and thanks for watching
Thank you so much for this video, I've got an 03 650 rincon that someone brought me because of an oil leak and it ended up being the base gasket, I've always worked on old school Hondas and this is the first automatic honda I've worked on and I was stumped until I saw this teardown. Again thank you so much.
Thanks and thanks for watching
Awsome video thank you. It's a huge help. I'm doing a 03 650 and this is saving the day!
Thanks!I'm working on the reassembly video this weekend. Should have it uploaded next week.
@@FourwheelerDoctor awesome. Thank you. I'll be watching for it. I'm waiting on clutch plates, poison, rings, oil pump chain. Got the gasket set. Debating doing the reduction kit while I have it apart
The reduction is a good investment and pretty easy to do especially since you already have your motor out.
@@FourwheelerDoctor where are you located id love if you could rebuild my 650
Thanks for the terrific video. I hope I never have to go this far but my 2007 Rincon has the transmission slipping. Time will tell.
Thanks for the video, it’s very helpful, I also appreciated the reassembly video as well.
Thanks and thanks for watching
This is awesome video my 07 rincon is starting to slip in third gear so I think I'm going to need a new torque converter possibly but that will be a winter project
fantastic video, thank you.
Thank you
Beautiful video I have a 07 650 Rincon has knocking till warm then only when u throttle it in the top end thanks in advance
I have the same issue. Runs fine but will not pull in forward and reverse. What ended up being the issue here?
I have a 2007 680 trxfg no spark .bought aftermarket stator, low restaince just wondering what restaince do yo have on the cranksensor on that stator
I have had my rincon since new in 2007. Never swamped, but air filter dry rotted and got sucked into engine. Started smoking, did top end by honing and putting standard rings in. Rode one season maybe. Smoking again and anything beyond half throttle it bogs. I think cam is worn out. Should I put all new top end or completely tear down and rebuild everything? 3500 miles.
Awesome vid. I just picked up a 650 that won’t budge, I’m thinking lack of oil pressure. I understand it’s likely the o rings, but what all should I replace while I’m in there? Chains, gears, piston, and what’s the failure rate of the pump itself?
I think most of the oil issues come from the o rings or the hondamatic unit. I replace the gears in the oil pump most of the time just because I am in there. I only replace the oil chain if it has come off. I would replace the cam chain if the tensioner is extended all the way out.
@@FourwheelerDoctor I got it figured out, she’s back on the road now. Oil pump chain was off, so I ordered a new one as well as piston rings and a timing chain. I cleaned the oil pump sludge out, and the o rings were in perfect shape. She’s runnin good, thx for the vid
@@gabe5360 Good deal. That's a simple enough fix.
this video was great. i have the reverse gear out of my rincon. just grinds in reverse. i may try replacing the reverse gear without removing the engine just the rear axle assembly.
Yes you can do that. I wish I had a video of it because I have done it a few times but never recorded it. It more than likely isn't the reverse gear but the cogged piece that attaches to the reverse gear or the inner cog that the shift fork slides back and forth. The cogs will be rounded off on the edges and not mesh up correctly when shifting.
Same problem here. It also has a grinding sound when it goes into drive. I may have damaged it already but do you have any information on how you made out? I"m going to attack it one day but I'm trying to learn all I can before starting. Because it grinds going into forward could it be the torque converter? if you could get back to me on how you made out. thanks
@@TheSaskachewan1 using the big red reverse gear fixed the issue. Completely.
@@TheSaskachewan1 I just did one not long ago that was grinding and it was the cogs inside of the gears I replaced both the forward and reverse and the collar that matched up with them and it fixed it. You can also check your idle. If it's idled up too high it will make them grind too.
Do you remember what size socket it is for the first gear clutches and torque converter are? I think it's 32mm for the torque converter and 29mm for the first gear clutches. I'm just trying to find out because I don't have anything that big and will need to buy it when I start my rebuild next week to replace my rear crank case. Also do the crank shaft just slide out? Thanks again for all the help!
What’s a cheaper good chain tensioner for it?
What special tools do you use? Like the flywheel tool and the torque converter tool. Thanks
That is pretty much all you need. The flywheel puller I have is from a company called motion pro part number 08-0086. The torque converter can be puller with a 6" two jaw puller or the puller I have came off eBay by horsepower house part number 07933-HA8000.
great video. Ive got an 05 rincon 650 just adjusted the valves on it and it still doesnt want to start. and i put a compression test on it and its reading 69 psi. any suggestions on what to do next would be helpful if you dont mind. thanks
We're you located
doing a crank swap How dose the crank come out do u just pull it out from there or
So I just changed piston rings and lapped my valves on my 2015 680 which fixed my smoking problem, but it has impossible to pull start since I got it, seems like the compression stroke is just too much to pull through, starts up easy peezy with starter, any advice?
There is really nothing you can do to make it easier. The cams in these motors have a decompression ring on them that is supposed to help but the are still really hard to pull. If you get it to rotate around to the top of the compression stroke you can get it to pull start in a pinch.
@@FourwheelerDoctor thanks for the reply, I will have to give it a shot!
By four wheeler doctor I got a 05 Honda rincon 650 2005 that will not run, cleaned carb and changed spark put nothing will not start off of starting fluid either has gas and is firing what do I check now?
Check compression
Hi, Thanks for a great video. I have a 2005 Rincon 650. Can you please tell me if the bore on them is Nikasil coated or can it bore bored to do a top end rebuild? I notice the .040 oversize pistons are available for it on the aftermarket but I wasn't sure as there are some conflicting bits of info out there
I am pretty sure theses are not nikasil. A easy way to check is to stick a magnet to the inside of the cylinder, if it sticks it can be bored if it doesn't stick then it is nikasil.
When you did the gear reduction on the bike did you pull the motor ? Or were you able to access it all from the rear of the bike without pulling the motor? Reason I'm asking long story short I blew the reverse gear to pieces and need to replace it but I really don't want to pull the motor if I don't have to haha thanks!
I do not pull the motors when I do them but you will have to take the rear subframe out it's really not hard to do
@@FourwheelerDoctor right on thanks man! I've pulled the sub frame out before I think it was only 4 or 6 bolts from what I can remember.
@@FourwheelerDoctor also did you make a video by chance when you installed the gear reduction on er?
@@jfrog180000 no I don't. It's been a while since I did one and I wasn't making videos then.
Yes it's not bad. Just get you some cardboard to put your bolts in that come out of the engine covers. There are a number of bolts and I think a few of them are different lengths.
where are you located?
South Carolina
Great content. Dizzy from the camera movement.
I have a gimble but can't get it to work properly with my camera but I will get it figured out. This should improve on future videos.
What would usually cause one to not want to move at all forward or reverse? It goes into gear but won't move
Low I oil, problems with the torque converter or problems with the Honda matic unit
@@FourwheelerDoctor this is on a big red 700. New top end and fresh oil just won't go not sure where to begin
What's up doctor? Question I got that thing back together and it's shifting funny. Guys online have had the issue but don't seem to have a clear solution. It's cooing into 1st and reverse no problem but it's locking up in 2nd and 3rd. Have you seen this?
No I haven't. Did you happen to clean your shift solenoids on the front of the motor? Also what oil are you running?
@@FourwheelerDoctor yes I took the solenoids out I took the valve body all apart, I hit it with brake cleaner and compressed air. Got it all cleaned up. I did not pull the pistons out of it. I have the Honda gn4 in it for oil. The only thing I can think of is I did not replace the O-rings on the four nipples between the valve body in the engine case. They did not come with a gasket kit that I ordered and I thought they'd be fine
Also I checked the oil level. It takes more after a rebuild for sure so I added some but no change
What do you mean it's locking up?
Yes I will try to post a video of it
What mm is the flywheel puller?
I'm pretty sure it's a 20mm.
Thank you
