    Great video. One question, I know you tried to preserve the Sheetrock but after getting the tile off, you decided the sheetrock should be replaced. Could you have simply removed the sheetrock -- with the old tile still attached -- to save yourself the trouble of lots of time chipping away at the old tile to remove it first? In other words, just remove the old tile and sheetrock together at once?

    Here's my tip next time your tiling, just use one small dab of ceramic adhesive in the centre of each tile, not the whole back surface as most do. The effect of gravity and the grout around the tiles is enough to hold it and its alot easier to remove when upgrading tiles again.

    So why can't you just take the bottom row out near the lip of the counter, score it, score the top tile edge and then bust it out if you're just going to replace the drywall? Seems like a lot of labor to remove tile you're just going to take out the wall section anyway.

    Here's a dumb question: I know the drywall was ugly after, but if it's to be covered anyway with new tile, why not just tile over it?
    Second question: does hitting one tile ever cause damage to adjacent tiles? I just need to remove the top row of my backsplash and replace those 5 tiles so I want to leave all the rest intact.

    • @getitdonehomerepair
      @getitdonehomerepair  4 роки тому +4

      You could just repair the holes but replacing the drywall will give you a nice even wall of tile. As for the top row as long as you don't touch the lower tiles you should be ok.

I found that a ball pean hammer seemed to do a better job than a claw hammer. I had to take up my bathroom floor tiles and tiles that line the wall and the floor. In doing so, the tiles that line the floor, 2" by 6" tiles, the paper came completely off exposing the actual chalk. Will ZIn bin work . Ive been told I can just primer over the chalk .
    1) Do I need to do both.
    2) Can I just use a primer, what kind. I don't really trust what Ive been told because I cant see how anything will hold onto chalk. But, In seeing your vid. I believe you may have an answer.
    Its just chalk along the the bottom of the floor 2" inch trim of tile that ran along the bottom of the wall.

Best tool to use is a old wood chisel and just get behind the tiles and pound away them they crumble and came off a lot easier than what your doing. Your going to have damage to the sheet rock no getting around it. I just use the chisel. And labor intensive! Either way it’s time and money. If your just retiling over it just repair/smooth it out with sparkle and retile it, I did it no problems! Why make more work for yourself.
