This is the podcast I’ve been waiting on for over a year. It’s great to be able to finally put a face behind the name and get some in depth Ironmace lore. WIPE HYPE. RUINS IS REAL.
As far as pushing specialization I like one of two paths: 1) Sub-classing exactly as stated by Soma. A designed experience requiring more initial dev time and vision. (S&B fighter gang would love this I'm sure) 2) Do a strong balance pass on the existing perks, add 1-2 per class, and give players the ability to transform one of their perk slots into a 'mastery' perk slot. Whatever perk you slot here gains a bonus effect or simply stronger than usual. This is more the "pick your own adventure" choice, less dev time needed to implement, but likely more ongoing work needed to balance 2 versions of each perk. I'd be equally happy with both but really just want something in this direction that isn't multi-classing.
I come from playing old school runescape and that company is very direct and transparent as well. No disrespect to Graysun but he said he doesn’t know any other company who answers DMs and OSRS is a big example of that, especially Mod Ash. It’s so nice to have developers actually speak and get to know them. I think they’re a good game to take notes from. This was a great podcast, good to hear from someone else in Ironmace.
Very nice episode! There were some really cool ideas floating around. I also fondly remember the "Hold the line" times, it was amazing to be part of the hype train. I've never been so excited for a game, let alone one that was just a limited time play test. Would be cool to see more of Graysun in the future, such a chill guy. Glad he is not losing his mind over the toxic gamers spamming him with stuff they get mad about in the game.
Blue crypts best crypts. Gimme Nightmare Crypts random variant spawn. Crypts spawns with blue crypts, only nightmare variant mobs on the map and increased loot drop rates when it's on that map. Also the game woulda been exactly the same on the yellow map with the fog back then with vision being limited. They removed all fog on the game pretty much anyways. Blue crypts was way more menacing feeling of a map, but blue light is bad for the eyes so make it a random thing that shows up occasionally would be cool af
~47:00 I also think subclasses add a lot of fantasy to the game, and flavour One Cleric can be a "healer" and the other a "paladin" subclass One Warlock can be a "demonologist" an other a "torture master" One fighter can be a "slayer" and the other a "master at arms" or "champi A rouge could be a "marauder" with combat perks and another a "duelist" and ofcourse "pickpocket" It goes on, there could be several subclass features, AND perks unlocked only for a certain subclass! I see so much potential in this, and frankly it'd make class balance EASIER imo, since now not every perk introduced to the game would have to balance around interacting with every other perk in a class, since they wouldn't appear in the same subclass if they weren't meant to be used together at all
I still have never been able to get the thought out of my mind since Soma mentioned the idea of a large scale open map dark and darker in the style of day z. Imagine poi’s are big compounds like the castle, there’s various biomes, you loot, you level, you find a way down to hell to socket some gems after killing the lich and stealing his bones. Somebody mod this please!
The class traits should simply just be whatever the most meta perk is for each class. Get it out of the way by making it a trait, instead of forcing everyone to run the same perk regardless of their build.
Those 2 indent slots would be perfect for the Quiver and a consumables pouch that would hold potions/bandages and maybe even campfires/surg kits/utility. You can see for yourself that every high tier player will have half if not more of the inventory be dedicated to heals/utility and when they do get a kill or god forbid 2 they have to drop the majority of the heals/utility that they brought. I think that would be a good qol change. For classes that don't carry arrows you could add something like a gem/coin/plants pouch for smaller treasures while also giving that choice to the classes with arrows to make them pick if they want more loot or more utility
Dota 2 recently had a HUGE patch where they added 2 "facets" to each hero, giving them two options on how to play their character. Similar to how subclassing could spice things up rather than mix everything together like multiclassing.
I think some sort of reset on a kill would help with 3rd parties a ton. For example, maybe you can interact with the soul heart of an enemy you killed and get like 60% health and a certain amount of spells back. Or a similar system that makes reseting after a team wipe a bit quicker. They could also make it so the entire team has to be dead to get this bonus, that way, you cant reset mid fight.
@@firesupotree I think this is a good idea, they should do something about specifically cheesing subbosses by standing slightly above them, and evading mobs by just slamming the door behind them. Let aggroed mobs open doors and perhaps "enrage" if you try to outrun them, gaining more speed and damage. Give sub-bosses special moves they only use if they can't reach you, like throwing knives from the Champion, Spirit projectile attack from the Wraith (or just let the Wraith actually hover-fly up/down to reach you). Let the monkey and Demon Berserker jump up/down ledges.
I honestly think it's a good idea for Multi-Classing to push people to use their gear sooner like it's not any big news everybody holds on to everything that's juiced up towards the end and I think people shouldn't do that. I think that should change in my opinion. Events could possibly or just Multi-Classing at the end to kind of make people use their gear because holding on to really good gear, especially if you're a team and a bunch of other teams are bossing and then you have a wide range of people who don't care to do that. You're taking items away from the whole transition of loot that's recycled among a bunch of players like you have a named weapon you die. The person who picks it up takes it out, uses it. He dies. The next person picks it up Rinse repeat until somebody doesn't pick it up but it gets put into the market into people's hands and the people who boss if they don't use that gear it doesn't get put into the flow of all the items being recycled and people can miss out on ever obtaining a boss weapon
Heres an idea, completing each vendors quest chain unlocks a perk associated with that vendor for only that character. It would instantly give a reason to do and complete the quests.
Completing all the quests is super worth it IMO, it's just a huge pain to have to do it on every character. Glad vendor "affinity" is shared from now on. You get better vendor items, cheaper (paying less for health pots adds up FAST), unlock crafting and extra stash tab/cosmetics/lots of free epics/a fuckin' gold chest, and upgrading Squire gear is huge for doing normals (124gs normals actually super fun, and 24gs is good low-stress practice too).
Graysun if you are reading this please change the first tailor quest, if I’m going to have to drop down through the ruins map crypt then inferno just to get my grey loose trousers is going to suck lol
Subclass is nothing like multiclass. Subclass is used for stuff like when you release a paladin who has alot in common with cleric, that they both belong to the same "Class". Or for example specialising in Ice Magic as a mage.
Paladin as a Cleric subclass is a great idea. I play Cleric and there is talk that if they do release paladin, they would probably rework cleric and move some of it over to paladin.

I feel like this idea of everything needing to be balanced all the time takes away from build variety. But it’s hard for people to not want to try what’s best when the content on what’s the best build for any game out rn is a UA-cam search away.
Sub classing of some kind is cool also I think some perks should be universal. Also if they just added a universal skill tree that maxes at level 50 adding just base stats like will strength or luck every 5 levels or so it would make people want to truly lock down one class for a longer amount of time
They talked a bit about quest lines and why would you finish them relating to tarkov. How could merchants affinity play a more core role? Like with weapon smith for example, you would need him to have a 25 affinity to be able to use green weapons, 50 for blue weapons and so on. I think this could really bring some stronger attention to completing quest lines instead of just getting the crafts.
Damn real. I too saw the onepeg video back then when playing tarkov. Pt1 was a bunch of tarkov players finding it. Also I too felt bard was not a good addition to the game and still to this day has completely changed the pacing of the game and continues to do so. Extremely strong class even after the extensive nerfs. Crazy that even a dev finds that additions to the game aren't the best direction. And the third partying is an issue due to the greatly increased sustain leading to a long ttk, which doesn't work in this game. Increasing heals, on top of the insane cleric heals and literal reset button with santuary and overheals. You just have a lot of fights that can last too long before more people just show up. The map and spawns being close and so easily traversed also contributes. Reducing the amount of players is just a bandaid that makes the raid feel emptier. The longer sustain (and nerfs to utilites) also makes it much harder to carry and potentially 1v3. Last, vendors are worthless for the most part. Buying and selling to them doesn't progress them like it does in tarkov. No reason to buy gear from them since why bother when you can't see the rolls when you can just go to the flea. They removed seeing the rolls bc people could just buy them and sell to the flea. When IM could have just made it so you can't sell bought items from the merchants, same with not being able to resell items bought off the flea. RMT is also still an issue due to this other selling lobby still existing.
Soma dude is there any way we could get the loading screen artwork as downloadable desktop backgrounds? Who ever does the art work is doing truly fantastic work
On the topic of new player experience, it would be cool to see a training mode where you can just spawn any PVE mob and practice fighting it. I'm at 200 hours or so and can reliably clear anything in GC and Crypts but I still have problems with certain mobs in Inferno and Ice Cavern.
So even Graysun thinks the melee combat in this game is bad. Hopefully the improve it eventually... it's not worth playing the game as a melee class currently.
They should readd kill leaderboards but ONLY for solos HR and make it account wide not character specific. That would make solos an insane blood bath because I'm tried of the teaming AP farmer andys.

Reducing player count on each map would be the best way to directly influence player encounter frequency. I'm not sure why that idea was completely glazed over..
I think the cobalt and rubysilver gear is fine but the crafted gear needs to go. Make rubysilver go back to 3 rolls(it already has an extra roll of 1%PDR). Especially with grimsmile rings once those are out wearing any other ring is pretty pointless. I've played since pt4 and once upon a time we used to bring luck pots and clear the best parts of inferno for gear. Now, we only loot things for like the first month and that's it.
Why did no one mention that the loot isn’t good in HR when Graysun said there was good loot?? Somewhere along the line the loot got ninja nerfed and hr sucks Also I really hope they make the US server more central like in Chicago similar to league. The ping from the west coast is annoying to play on East. West is dead/RMT and they could save server costs
Super based take on the quests. I have no problem getting stash tabs and doing the quest for them but I've struggled to get chests or the quest for one. But it was my focus this season to be better at pvp to make it out of hr being in high traffic areas. Which is interesting progression but with out arena it's been a struggle bus
Gear score is only in norms for matchmaking, and if there was none a Timmy with greens and blues would get spawnrushed by a bis’ed out sweat. Removing gearscore would make the problem 10x worse. I’m failing to see ur logic on how it would make it better? How does the sweats being separated from the timmies make spawnrushing worse?
@@BB-848-VAC I understand ur comment, just ur idea would do the exact opposite of what you propose. Sweats would now be running down the lobbies even easier since half the lobby will be timmies with 27 gearscore
Remove HR and do truly randomized dungeons and have the mobs be thematically randomized and strategically placed and certain percentage are normal/elite/nightmare. Nightmare guys and bosses should just drop the best loot and be hard enough to wipe an under geared or talentless group.
Wouldn't be bad, but he should either sell them at like triple price from your stash, or normal price but only for money you've found in the dungeon already. Maybe allow you to trade in treasure for these, but he doesn't give you "change", so if you want 40g worth of arrows, you put in 41g of Treasure, you don't get the 1g back.
Honestly this session was my favorite session so for by far! Duos was thest game mode ever and i had a buddy we gust kept playing for hundreds of hours day after day. My take on balance is please remove true damage off the game. Any kind of true damage is just braking the game. Stacking true is lame. And please remove flat move seed bonus on boots. Its just lame to have rare boots with double move speed 5 times more expensive than Epic or Legendary with zero move speed bonus... You never want that in the game... Higher tier gear should be superior to lower tier gear. Like green light foots with 5 move speeed are actually better than Legendary with no move speed.... this stuff should not be in the game!!! thats my take.
Thanks for inviting me on 😊

Also I really hope they make the US server more central like in Chicago similar to league. The ping from the west coast is annoying to play on East. West is dead/RMT and they could save server costs
Subclassing would make this game less move speed meta and an actual rpg
Super based take on the quests. I have no problem getting stash tabs and doing the quest for them but I've struggled to get chests or the quest for one. But it was my focus this season to be better at pvp to make it out of hr being in high traffic areas. Which is interesting progression but with out arena it's been a struggle bus
TYBG Thank You Based Graysun
Grayson hates pregert man!!!
Tell Jay to buy a light bulb.
Imagine the balancing issues with sub classing ....
29:28 Getting rid of Gear Score would fix the third party problem. Only sweats and tryhards roam the map looking for third party opportunities
@@Zorkalotread it again
@@BB-848-VAC I understand ur comment, just ur idea would do the exact opposite of what you propose. Sweats would now be running down the lobbies even easier since half the lobby will be timmies with 27 gearscore
The progression and leveling system is a vestigial organ that's rotted and needs to be removed.
New Podcast When?
Remove HR and do truly randomized dungeons and have the mobs be thematically randomized and strategically placed and certain percentage are normal/elite/nightmare. Nightmare guys and bosses should just drop the best loot and be hard enough to wipe an under geared or talentless group.
Have nightmares at specific modules though so they can be avoided or improve stealth against pve.
Graysun seems like he didn't understand the sub class question or the loadout question.
Not at first - I think we explained it a bit though and he got it
They should literally just rip Diablo 2's subclass system.
between floors (especially 3 floor ruins) the dungeon expressman should sell healing and/or arrows as well as taking your gear
@@firesupotree yeah go back to complaining about graysun you whingebag
@@firesupotree just go back to your corner and whine and complain about graysun being a bad character LMAO. get over yourself

Quests need to be less rng. Fuck the wendigo hoof quest
graysun is such a cutie patotie
GRAYSON; the quests are not impactfull, you get a group of them that dont really give you a good progressive reward...!!!
They need to be tied into law and or something that is naturally achievable.
We are getting quivers fuck yea !!!!!!!
anyone know who the people on this podcast are?
OH SHIT LETS GOOOO!!!!

Devs r p regarded hopefully they change
Honestly this session was my favorite session so for by far! Duos was thest game mode ever and i had a buddy we gust kept playing for hundreds of hours day after day. My take on balance is please remove true damage off the game. Any kind of true damage is just braking the game. Stacking true is lame. And please remove flat move seed bonus on boots. Its just lame to have rare boots with double move speed 5 times more expensive than Epic or Legendary with zero move speed bonus... You never want that in the game... Higher tier gear should be superior to lower tier gear. Like green light foots with 5 move speeed are actually better than Legendary with no move speed.... this stuff should not be in the game!!! thats my take.
any timestampers in the chat
Can we have Guilds please?
