Excellent tutorial!! Breaking up the harmonies into separate tracks really does add a lush stereo depth. This is the missing part to most vocoder explanations. You nailed it!
Congrats to your record! Vocoder is cool, especially to spice up certain part. Well used it can create a magic feeling. I have never worked with one so it was cool to take part of this video. Good luck with the record! 👍👍
Colin, I have this song flowing into my heart after watching this video: 'Take me deeper, Colin Take me deeper, Colin, from GarageBand into Logic Pro' I have the tune also for this song a bit similar to Don Moen's! 😀 BTW, I haven't received an email notification from you regarding the release of this song and I wonder why.
Another great video. Helps with the difficult decision to move to Logic (but I'm still going to continue to work in GarageBand too - just too comfortable and familiar to leave behind). Also, another great song. Looking forward to listening to the full album. Best of luck to you and the band.
Dude! I usually curse the algorithm but this is the EXACT video I needed today! Like you I'm a Garageband guy who recently graduated to Logic. I was looking for a vocoder vibe just like this. (Have you seen the clip of Mark Ronson & Sean Lennon putting this kind of effect on John Lennon's "Hold On"? Your song has that same vibe and it's BEAUTIFUL!). Honestly I was about to plunk down money I can't afford on a third party plug in but now I can do this. Thank you!! PS - The song sounds wonderful dude! Very moody. I was vibing on it so hard at the beginning of your video I almost wished you'd played it all out. But I'll download it for sure. Great work!!
One question. Sounds like you have a lot of auto-tune on your actual vocal track. Which meshes well with the vocoder. Is that just Logic pitch correction or did you use auto-tune or melodyne? I've been trying and failing to get that "T-Pain" sound with the Logic pitch correction. Any tips on how to do that?
Barney! Awesome, brother. I haven't seen that clip- I'll have to look it up! Sounds super interesting. I'm really glad you are digging the song! It's my favorite track we've done. Really pushed our limits with the arrangement
I'm just using the Logic Pitch correction here! I set the speed on right to speed up the transitions which makes it more noticeable (giving it that T-pain sound). I think it really helps give it the electronic sound we wanted the total vocal to have. Your track "Water" is great by the way!
@@TheBandGuide Thanks right back at ya! I'll try that T-Pain thing. Appreciated. And thanks for listening to my stuff too. I think you mean "Gold"? It starts with a lyric about Water. (Although now I'm like, is he digging deep into my archive? Do I have a song called "Water"? Ha!)
HEY COLIN! Here's the clip of Lennon I was talking about. Watch it to the end. They start with just a vocodor harmonizer then, like you, they mix the real voice back in. You're on the cutting edge! ;) ua-cam.com/video/Yzd_tP-84Nc/v-deo.html
Very cool. Although I mostly use GarageBand I do have Logic, I'll try it out. When I got Logic a few months ago I had a look at it and got intimidated by the learning curve. It is way more powerful than GarageBand and I figured not much point moving to it without using the things it does that GarageBand doesn't. One feature I have used lately that GarageBand doesn't have is midi file export, very handy for sharing with people. I know it's not going to happen but I really wish GarageBand had the mixer Logic has.
I agree with all of this! I would keep at it and just only branch out into the new features when you need them. Let me know if you want any Logic Pro videos!
@@TheBandGuide Logic Pro would be a good extension of the content of this channel. One great thing about Logic Pro is that in many ways what one has learned in GarageBand also applies in Logic Pro. It's also great one can open GarageBand projects in Logic Pro no problem. A friend who is a producer said something to me I tend to agree with and found an amusing way to describe it, that Logic Pro is GarageBand on steroids :)
How does your vocoder sound so clean? I did all the steps but the sound I get isn't as clear as yours. Do I need a midi of my exact instrumental for this to work?

i think maybe the best, most straightforward logic tutorial i have ever seen. no issues. thank you so much.
Same as everyone below, Clear explanation that makes it a breeze to use the vocoder. Many thanks.
Glad it helped!

First time using the Vocoder. thanks so much for the tutorial. Your song sounds great!
I watched so many videos, and nothing worked. After your explaining finally i got it ! THANK YOU
I come back to this video often, great job man
Could you do a side chain tutorial Colin at some point? I have never really got my head around it.
Same here. That and aux buses, which I understand but don't get why we need them in the digital space.
Congrats to your record!

very clearly explained, thank you!
Thats so cool, love it. Will totally try that out.
One question: How do you connect the three "left middle right" Channels with the same vocoder ? Thank you for the great Video !!

for some reason i cant side chain
Me neither, it’s gone in the most recent update I think
I turn on my vocoder and connect side chain and I don't hear anything
you need to place midi chords in the vocoder track. and select a preset in the vocoder as well
Hi there! I sent you an email inquiring about a course. Would you please check it? Ty!
Just responded!
