It is chameleon community day where I show off chameleons and DIY projects from people in the community! I then do two chameleon cage reviews with cages that were sent in and I was given permission to review.

Hey bill, I have a question. What is your opinion on the ethics of keeping a reptiles in enclosures slightly smaller then what they should be in in a pet store setting, the enclosures would be beyond perfect in every other way excpet size, and they would be designed for the comfort of the animals and ease of matinance rather than display. Do you think it would send people the wrong message to see reptiles in tanks below the minimum even if I had maybe a sign or stickers on the tanks that says this is not sutible for long-term care? Thanks, for your input!

There are some circumstances where ideal size enclosures are not practical. These situations are pretty much in the different stages of commerce. Ideally we would not have those situations, but until we can figure out a different way, the best compromise is to create the best possible temporary habitat for the chameleon waiting to go to their new home and have access to a tutorial on the best forever home. Many breeders simply give customers the Chameleon Academy website as the guide. But communicating that the purchaser should have a better enclosure is a huge step in the right direction if it cannot be demonstrated.

Thanks Bill, I want to have booklets for almost every reptile kept in the hobbie available in my store for people to use, I want to author every one and work with experts to proof them and get only the best information, the booklets would have example pictures and diagrams for every aspect of each species and each booklet would be paired with a UA-cam video going over it so the information can be more easily retained, this is just one of many ideas I have for opening an aquarium and reptile store.

The pdf booklet has a QR code so it can be printed out and kept at the counter. Anyone wanting a copy of their own can simply click on the QR code on the front and get a digital copy.
