I love watching train & travel reviews, as with many, the gloves just creeped me out, also thought you were a bit fast in showing things, however, as you say this is your 1st, and feel all in all a Great 1st attempt, All the best for future reviews,
This was a great first video!! I actually really enjoyed the no commentary/dialogue and instead just watched your train journey. Also was so helpful showing where to book this and other little tips like that. Awesome work! :)
Good to see the Australian xp t still going strong the same as our 125 hst trains which they are based on reminds me of Paddington at the beginning with the 3 HST / XPT lined up together
Many times. In UK, USA and this service in Australia. My single compartment was significantly better than yours (and that journey was done in September 1987); I had an excellent dinner and breakfast and a very comfortable sleep. Three days on the California Zephyr - Chicago to San Francisco - was am absolute treat - amazing views, lots of interesting fellow traveller's and absolutely amazing staff. London to various destinations in UK was always comfortable.
When the Southern Aurora was new, some 60 or so years go, I travelled to Melbourne on it. The cabin fittings here seem pretty much to the same standard, but that pack of toiletries etc is well behind. So was the food.
Totally agree. It was kind of freaky - like watching someone prepare to cut up a corpse. I appreciate the fact he didn’t want to show his face but a bit of commentary would have been nice…
I used to catch this train quite regularly, but never in sleeper carriage, usually in the disabled section of C carriage. Not a bad trip. I'm not fussed on the menus, so I normally get my dinner at one of the cafes outside the station (down the escalator from the concourse).(done that more times than I can remember on both the Melbourne & Canberra services)..
Mate, I'm about half way through watching this and I find the creepy gloves so hard to handle! In saying that, I'm going to continue watching as it is a very good and informative, despite the lack of dialogue. If I change my opinion at the end of the video, I will let you know. Until then, well done.
Loved the video as I have done this train trip a couple of times myself so I love seeing what others think of it. Please, ditch the gloves. It looks like you’re doing a spy movie or something. Otherwise, good and very informative video! 👍😁
Too expensive 🥺🥺 Indian Railways 1st AC sleeping coach is far better also 15×times cheaper and provides lot of free foods/ drink/snacks Bedsheets, pillow, blanket, sleeping bed , chair, table,wifi.. Nice first try! Good job! Just one thing, please try and avoid big, fast panning shots - especially in confined spaces! Makes me dizzy :) Otherwise, very nice!
One thing I noticed that this 'high speed train' was never doing any high speeds. Considering the cost of this sleeper cab and then seeing all that's lacking and the 'school camp' food no wonder why people fly SYD-MLB. Sadly this train is trapped in the past like much of Australia. In the UK this class of train are now Museum pieces. But here is Lucky Australia this is 'premium high speed train tech'. I loved the gloves, gave the video a really creepy serial killer feel. Your going to the top of the charts once you connect to the correct UA-camrs 😳
Your subtitles were excellent! Like others, I didn't like the gloves, nor the dizzy swivel shots. Maybe you could practise at home. I've made the same mistake.. There are other nice sleeper videos, for comparison those in Sweden/Germany/Norway/ and the Turkey to Austria. Just pacing it out a bit helps the audience relax. If you can, check out others just to up your standard a bit. I do think the toilet, shower, curtains etc are a bit below the standard of the others I've seen. Good first try (YOU said it!) and hoping you get in some practice before going west and north. Cheers
Thank you for your comment, I’ve already recorded some videos but I’ll implement the advice when it comes to the editing. I hope you will enjoy my future content even more
I have not taken a day sitter for either the Melbourne or Brisbane overnight trips so I don’t have a perfect opinion on this, however for me I would much prefer to pay the extra $88 to upgrade (from first class train pass) to a sleeper. I’ve done the 7hr Dubbo to Sydney on an first class seat and I couldnt imagine having a comfortable sleep on an 11hr trip
The power cars are Diesel - Electric, based on the BR Class 43 (Intercity 125 HST). Redesigned and built by COMENG for Australian conditions. Later trains were built by ABB when COMENG went out of business. Carriages are based on a Budd design, built in Australia. You can checkout `XPT by COMENG' here on UA-cam if interested (3 videos).
The reasons/things available on each transport method are so different they almost cannot be compared. But the biggest factor that may change one’s mind is the 11hr train ride vs a 1.5hr plane ride
My mistake, was hoping the gloves could be a visual signifier of my channel seeing that I don’t speak or show my face. I appreciate the comment and glad you enjoyed it :)
I am not very impressed at all by this train. The compartment itself looks acceptable but that is just about the only good thing I can really say about it. The majority of passengers will not be travelling in the very small number of sleeper compartments that this train offers. The seated accommodation is not up to what was provided on the UK Inter City 125 version of this train, especially the 1st class 2 X 2 seating when in the UK (and if I am not mistaken in the original Australian configuration) the 1st class seating was 1 X 2. 2 X 2 1st class especially on a long overnight journey is not acceptable at all. The whole train interior looks a bit dilapidated to me. The catering was very unimpressive as well. If I heard the announcement correctly, 2 out of the 4 options for dinner were Roast Pork. How odd. Have a look at one of the videos of the Caledonian sleeper in the UK which covers a similar distance and compare. It would be nice for Sydney and Melbourne to be linked again by a quality (overnight) rail service as this offering will never attract high yield or business travellers. I have never travelled on an Australian sleeper train although I would like to try the Indian Pacific one day. The only long distance rail journey I have made during a visit to Australia was Sydney - Canberra in 1978 on the old Canberra Monaro Express. Too long ago to remember much. Can remember a nice freshly cooked steak dinner served at my seat though and seeing Kangaroos out of the window!

I must agree. When travelling on the privately owned “the overland” train there was a dining car, I didn’t realise how enjoyable a dining car was until I travelled the syd to Brisbane train without one
This was filmed a few weeks before the apparent 21st September end of mask mandate. But even during that time, nobody seemed to be enforcing any mask rule and none of the cabin crew seemed to care. Perhaps this was because social distancing rules gave me a solo cabin, however even walking throughout the train was there was no enforcement
Sorry, but the whole idea of wearing gloves was to limit the spread of germs, especially during COVID. You are busy touching everything on a germ ridden train, and then open your bread roll and tear it in half whilst still wearing your gloves 🤢
Nice video and good first attempt but would benefit from more shots out of the window. You seem an extremely private person, not only hiding your hands but blanking out your entire body and face when filming the bathroom, this is something that you could work on relaxing about imo.
Yes I would’ve like to record more shots out the window, unfortunately there was no brightness outside at night so my camera couldn’t pickup any visuals, it also made the window very reflective and could only see the inside reflection. I do like to stay private, but perhaps I could find a way to make my censoring less obvious. Thank you for your comment!

How much is a sleeper Sydney to Melbourne
Guess I missed your thoughts and review on the value for money for the sleeper over the day seat trip.
I have not taken a day sitter for either the Melbourne or Brisbane overnight trips so I don’t have a perfect opinion on this, however for me I would much prefer to pay the extra $88 to upgrade (from first class train pass) to a sleeper. Did you travel in a sleeper cabin?
Ah, it's a good start..may I ask why are your hands shivering??
I’m not sure, I guess they just shiver a bit, was a little nervous first time recording. Thank you for the thinking it was a good start!

Keep traveling and making videos but I will join the anti-gloves group - gives the whole thing unfortunate horror movie vibe.
But good detail work.
My mistake, was hoping the gloves could be a visual signifier of my channel seeing that I don’t speak or show my face. I appreciate the comment and glad you enjoyed it :)
Why the gloves? Is everything that contaminated and dangerous?
I was looking to make the gloves a recognisable visual of the channel
