Back in 2007 when I finished my first grad art degree, my professor knew that students traditionally hit a block. I had about a month before I carried on with my MFA work and he gave me the best advice. He said "I want you to make something- never stop making things - that you have made before, but with completely new parameters, materials, techniques, etc." That REALLY kept me from getting a mental/creative block because I was so focused on learning something new. I think doing this spread in a totally different way was SO smart!!!
Idea for a spread/monthly theme: You could do a cold drink (like iced tea or lemonade) or a hot drink (like hot chocolate). Then, for your mood tracker, you could have the drink spilling out onto the page with all of the liquid and ice cubes/marshmallows spilling out. Then, you could draw little faces on all of the ice cubes/marshmallows for how you're feeling. :D, :), :l, :(, :O Stuff like that!
Honestly this was my favorite spread so far! I love the gingham color with the black and white doodles. Almost makes it look 3D. And I loved the flip tab pages at the end!
Girl, honestly this one of my favorites you’ve ever done! It felt airy and chill, which is perfect for my July because I’m feeling kinda down and not “summery”
I was going through an art block too. And knowing that someone I really admire was going through the same kinda inspired me to go on with life. SO THANK THY QUEEN
This theme warms the heart! I'm glad you found something to smile about during the planning of this, Ms. Amanda. I like the setup of the weekly spread very much. The picnic details really make me wish we could all go out and have some much-needed out-of-the-house time. Oh, and I recommend snack shopping during a creative slump. I had a time where the font on food wrappers, plus cute cookie packaging gave me some inspiration for what to draw next. If you still can't go out due to pandemic precaution conditions, have a look in your cupboards and your fridge. Works wonders for me too! I haven't tried any of the Dutch Door, or French Door bullet journal pages for my own planning, but thank you for this look at a simple version of it.
Amanda's videos are literally the best. She inspired me to start bullet journaling a couple years ago, and I've never looked back. Despite her creative block, she somehow makes every Lil Doodle feel special and connected to her. I love the Summer vibes!! My theme for July is watermelon (inspired by last month's colors), so I got super excited when I saw this theme

When people say mean things to or about you, it’s not about you. It’s almost always about them and their insecurities. Sometimes we want to take things a little personally, because it means that we’re important. But truth be told, people are mostly thinking about themselves. And they don’t care about us as much as we’d like to think they do. For me, this was the best realization. People don’t remember what you wore or said nearly as much as you think about it. Let’s stop obsessing and taking ourselves so seriously.
Omg this was soooooooo relaxing I get art blocks a TON and this helped as well! For those of you fellow artists out there who have an art block rn, just keep going, get inspiration, OR embrace your art block, do other things you love, then eventually, art will hit you like, uh, something. Actually, now that I say it, this applies to anyone who has any sort of block, whether it’s singing, or cooking, or sewing, except for the things you need to do. Anyways, Amanda this was an AMAZING video as usual, very, VERY, inspiring, I hope you are safe! ❣️💞💗💜💕💓💖😃😃😃

Thank you so much for talking about being in a creative slump. It really helped me, I just recently got really burned out with school, no was pressuring me but myself and I was really beating myself up about it. And know I have a much better perspective on self kindness 😊
I hope you are feeling better. I've been on the LONGEST artist block, since 2016. I used to beat myself up a lot because I would expect myself to draw constantly to the point where I burned out of ideas (I started attending college , and so if was more difficult to manage time) .I love your creativity but please remember that you and your mental health are more important, and if you need a break from it you can always take it. Something else that helps me with artist block is trying to draw what I'm feeling, whether is sadness, disappointment, anger, happiness, etc. Art is a form of therapy, and nothing speaks more volumes than expressing what you are feeling through paper, no matter what it is. I actually love your july bullet journaling because of how simple it is, by using 2 colors you bring the best out of them and it's easier to admire the simplicity of every part of the drawing. Please take care of yourself, you are enough .
This spread is so creative with just the one accent color. I really like the idea of a weekly reflection for the mood tracker. Scrolling through different Instagram hashtags of topics I'm considering often helps my creative blocks, but then inspiration can hit on a walk to the store or to the park (which we can do more of now).
