- What if we added 8 more ranks in the middle of the board, and changed absolutely nothing else? Well...nothing good, but I tried anyway.
Enter this command into the developer console, then start a Chess vs Checkers game to play long chess:

I think board should allow pawn to make double move at any point since board is very long so pawn need to be faster to get in game
Or let pawns move anywhere in front of them on their opening move. I think it would make long chess interesting to play while staying faithful to the original piece
@@freezedriedicecream I think it gonna be confusing since unmoved pawn can move like forward rook (aka lance in shogi) it means if path is clear and pawn never move before you can promote in 1 move... it's to insane and to arbritary, and what about en passant, in y suggestion en passant is anytime opponent move pawn 2 square next to their pawn they can en passant
Or move up to fifth rank from the opponent's end... from anywhere below that rank. Leaving a humongous en passant trail, of course.
Can you en passant it at anywhere if it is infront of double step moved pawn regardless of rank
@@user-fk8pv1sk8b Yes! That was my intent, as well as en passant's intent: it's fine that the pawn skip spaces, but it can't jump over attacks.
Another interpretation of the double pawn move would be that a pawn can always advance up to the rank before the middle line (with full en passant vulnerability, of course). That would feel closer to traditional chess, but I'm not certain which of my suggestions I prefer.

Been considering a concept like this for the purposes of playing chess in a chest in minecraft. It also loses 2 columns though, so it necessitates the removal of one knight and one rook from each team. Still trying to figure out which should be on which side.
