Assassin being able to pass through 2 or more pieces is too overpowered. It makes checking in general a nightmare concept. Leaping over 1 is still a nightmare, but far more manageable.
Yeah the knight is balanced becouse of its L shaped move that is hat to do. The assassin can probably mate in just a couple of moves if you play it smart.
@@thomaslijten1157 Yes very true and it's a color changing piece, but any unit able to pass through pieces that doesn't have a limit of 1 is OP. If anyone is familiar with variants, they'd know that a 2 unit leaper is probably stronger than a queen.
I think they would be more balanced if either
A) They can only capture first unit after passing another one (can't capture like bishop, only jump over)
B) They are kamikaze and die after capturing

White can checkmate in 2 moves with assasin while black's assasin cant check the white king because both assasins are light squared

Here's an idea to make the assassin more balanced: The assassin must remain "unseen" at all times, it can't ever put itself under attack and as soon as it is attacked it is immediately eliminated. Also the assassin can never attack the King.

What if the assassin can only attack if it's not under attack itself
Fregat is not for attacking, it is for defend from assassin and bishop.
Also black is at a slight disadvantage because the white assassin is on a square of the same color as the black king

You built up the map with rotational symmetry in mind but didn’t change the mirror symmetry of the original board; both players’ assassins are on white squares while only one king starts on a white square.
You checked with the assassin for like half the game
A few balances and new features I thought of while watching:
- In order to HEAVILY nerf assassin (it needs it) only allow it to move through one piece at a time.
- As a little buff as compensation, it’s direction switches between that of a rook and a bishop every time you move it.
- Frigates should be able to ferry pieces to a destination of your choice, at the cost of your frigate being unable to attack, and can only move 5 spaces at a time (carrying load) instead of infinite. The frigate cannot drop pieces off at the opponents end of the board.
- The archer retains its attack, but the diagonals in-between the gap are also filled, allowing for a two space diagonal attack. If the archer attacks, it DOES NOT move, and can only move on a separate turn.
- Pieces are able to go into the water, but can only be there for a maximum of two turns before drowning and being removed from the board. They have a reduced move amount, and they can only go two tiles out into the water. Any further will kill them.
- Eagles can move either 2 OR 3 spaces out in any vertical/horizontal direction, but they can only attack when going two out, because they grow tired after traveling to the third one.
- Eagles are able to perch onto the mountains, allowing them to cover the entire 2-3 space gap that the mountain has. However, the eagle cannot attack from here, so this is just for extra mobility.
- Pawns can be promoted to any piece besides Assassin and Frigate. Pawns taken to the other side of the board via Frigate do not promote.

@@hy7864 in chess craft you can put board obstacles as well, even things like buttons and doors. Most of the time it's crumbling tiles but the sheer potential of that game is unlimited

I think you should make that the assassin has to right to only move over 1 piece at a time
Some ideas to make it better
Assasins can't jump over pawns
Frigates can transport troops.
Archers can shot were horses normally move
Eagles act as a queen, but can move only 3 squares and jump over allied pieces
Frigates can't attack, but pieces on them can.
Frigates can only be destroid by other Frigates (been taken like any piece), archers and the rook, only if is alongside it
Mountains can have troops. Troops in mountains can't attack other pieces except pawns and can not be killed by frigates and archers, and if killed by others would get down of the mountain. If there is no pleace alongside the mountain to get down, it dies (they can move to frigates) Kings can not be in mountains or frigates
i think the idea with the center slowing pieces down is a very interesting chess rule
the eagle needs a buff, it seemed pretty much useless.

Idea: using the friggate, you can ferry pieces to outer islands. Using these, you can set up outposts that can help produce a piece every 3 turns called "the private". The private can move one square in any direction like a king. Once it kills a piece, it primotes to solider. Which moves 2 spaces as well. Also using these outposts, you can get special bonuses like "beyonet": every piece gains king movement to their moveset. "All passant" all pieces can en passant. "Eruption" mountans turn to volcanos which make tiles lava. And more.

After a Soldier dies, all Privates gain PTSD for 7 turns. Also, Eagles starve to death if they don’t kill any enemy every 5 turns. After 10 of your pieces have been killed, a coup is performed and you automatically lose.

ChatGPT is notoriously bad at chess, so facing against it with a new type of chess is all around worse of an idea. Chess needs to stay simple. If you add too much to make it more complex, then it gets too easy to break the game.
Ideas for the assassin:
-Limit it's movement range to like 4 or 5 spaces.
-It can still leap over any number of pieces provided that it either lands in an empty space or it captures an opponent's piece.
-It can only attack pieces that are within a 1 space radius.
-It cannot attack any piece beyond that radius.
In other words, it can attack any piece that is next to it but it requires multiple moves to attack any piece that is further away. This makes it impossible for the assassin to attack the king unless the assassin is protected by another piece.

4:15 the eagle should be able to move diagonally but only one square.
I was thinking of a similar idea for American football; adding features like streams and ponds, small forests, sand patches and hills. But then I realized that guys would probably get killed playing on a field like that.

Is there anyway to make a mobile game with fully customizable boards? I know there's games where you can set patterns for units so it's adapting that into an easier to code grid.
I think a chargeable piece would be cool. Something like, you can use a turn to rotate it clockwise (once each turn) and depending on which rotation it's in, it can move one, two, or three spaces in any direction. And it resets after a turn of it's not used or it moves to a different square. Idk what it would be called though. And the only part that really matters is the chargeable part. It can have different functions instead of a movement increase if anyone can think of anything better
TBH i was rooting for ChatGPT in the final game, since he has a bad reputation of being bad at chess.
Feedback:
1) Assasin is too op, make him only jump over one piece, and also put two on them on the board with one on each color
2) Eagle should be able to fly on the mountains.
3) Add more water pieces, or pieces that can attack to water, here are some ideas:
a) Watch tower, a land unit, can attack all water spaces 2 tiles away, moves like a king, but can't attack on land, occupies 1 tile.
b) Naval Ship, a water unit, can attack a whole row/column of pieces, but can only attack once every 3 turns.
4) make the gaps of water in the land only 2 long.

The only thing this is missing is fog of war.
Given how some pieces are very OP it would be fair to introduce fog of war, an undiscovered area of the board that needs to be discovered by your pieces before you can attack it.
Different pieces have different ways to remove the fog of war.
Pawn can remove FoW one block ahead of themselves.
Queen can remove FoW in a 3x3 area she is standing in.
And so on.

How did you go about making a modified chess board and adding new pieces?
Amazing, now make the piece of the pirate raid in the middle of the frigate.

-Fragates should not be the only piece on the water, there should be more going on there, like a water piece specialiced in attacking ground and one specialized on attacking other water pieces.
-The archer should probably be able to attack pieces at a range 2 AND 3 insteadof only two, and probably should not have to move to the position of the piece it killed
-The assasin should be able MOVE like a queen WHILE jumping over other pieces, bur should only be able to eat pieces like a King. Like he is great at moving around, area denyal and scaping easily, but needs set up to kill stuff
-The map should be bigger vertically, thay way you could add more bushes and montains
-You should add a lumberjack, that is just a pawn that can remove bushes (yeah, I am treating them like tress), and when doing so can generare either a Rook or a Fregate at their starting positions (if able)

There's a major problem here : the pieces placement are mirrored but not the trees.

Whatever piece is in the bushes can not be attacked by other pieces (they can't see the piece, except for King, for balancing reasons)
I tried the Chinese version of chess, I’m not kidding they got canons. They also got elephants, chariots and horsemen. Both kings has a palace, with two bodyguards defending the king inside his palace. In the middle there is a river which the elephant can’t cross. But the other units can, the peasants can only move forward until they have crossed the river and when they have crossed they can move any directions on the opposite river.

I think it would be cool if pieces could hitch a ride on the frigate. Also, it would be possible to steal the enemy frigate and take control of it. And the archer should be able to attack without moving. And the eagle should be able to go over sees, on the mountains, and even go on the same square as an allied piece. And the assassin could be able to pass through allies, but not enemies. Either that or you should reduce its movement speed.
Why does this remind me of Chess played in an anime/light novel called “A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special” has a variation of chess called “North Sea Chess” that looks a lot like this.
A couple of steps more and you'll come up with Age of Empires 2.

This is literally how Sid Meier made Civilization series: fantasies about chess game turned into a new game. We have multiple examples of TBS nowadays and it's my favorite genre, like chess itself.

The frigate: cannot attack rooks
i had an idea that an assassin piece in chess that moves like a bishop and disappears when it eats a enemy piece
The assassin should be able to skip over one square, still powerful and keeping to the concept, but not fully broken, also I just like the idea of it choosing to skip over the bushes while giving up the ability to jump any other pieces
Frigate seem kinda op to rust enemy king since they couldn't attack it. I'd say make every piece could attack the frigate if it adjacent to it
