Beecher is awesome. If you called me before the series, I could have told you to watch out for him. He busts his ass every night.
Franchise Hockey Manager made me aware of Beecher last year.
He really took being sent to Providence last time personally
those face offs though
The legend appears
@@randombutrelevant1606 What did I just read?
Steve: I don't even know who you are.
Beecher: You will
😂
but it's awesome that he called it! The day before the series kicks off Steve goes through the B's lineup, see's Beecher's name and says "I don't know who this is so I guess he'll be scoring the first goal for the Bruins." and it comes true! That's amazing really.
THAT set the tone for the game. Suddenly, the Leafs had to watch out for the less-obvious names along with Pasta and Marchand and the rest. Whereas, the Bruins only had to focus on guarding the Leafs’ top scorers.

“The Leafs are cosplaying as a playoff hockey team”
All time quote!
I've seen plenty of people coming out of the woodwork to label the Jets as frauds...where's the same for the Leafs?
This isn't the first time we've seen this with the Leafs, and it won't be the last! When it comes to playoffs the Leafs are as *FRAUDULENT AS CAN BE!!*
But they're actually a boot camp for creating good goaltenders.
They just gave out at the end of the first period
It's just one game. Leafs will beat Boston and win the Cup.
Came here for the screaming, stayed for the screaming.
This was more like shrieking.
Yeah, both you and I got what we came and stayed for, then.
Thanks Steve for the yearly tradition!
The screaming gives me life
As someone who lives in Boston and is a die hard fan, I love watching you Steve. Give me a point of view of how all leafs fans are reacting to these games
These games? It's one game, we're not all screeching morons after one game 🙄
LOL you will be deeply disappointed to discover that he is not at all a reflection of the fanbase, let alone the average fan. If we were all so reactionary, Ilya Samsonov would most certainly not be our goalie.
@northerngurl6178 I was more referring to all the games he's covered for leafs. And whether you like to admit or not, there's always a part of you, a hockey fan, that is exactly like Steve
@chrisaquaro9901 uhhhhh no I don't behave like that, look I'm a Steve fan too, but if you're suggesting the over the top shenanigans are what most of us do you're being disengenous, name a time you as a hockey fan behaved outrageously like that, people really don't, good lord lol
@northerngurl6178 not saying you do but your inner hockey fan does. He's the loving embodiment of what we're all thinking and feeling just we don't express it.
Clearly Domi inherited his father's unparalleled ability to take dumb penalties
Amazes me still how many love Tie Domi. As a Leafs fan, yes I appreciated the job he did but I’ll never forgive him for 2001. Plays the best game of his career as a Leaf and then flushes it when he decides to smoke Neidermayer at the end of game 5. Leafs were one win away from the ECF vs Pittsburgh (a series the Leafs would’ve easily been the favourite)
Jersey looked like a team ripe for the picking until Domi lit a fire under them with his stupid hit. Jersey woke up, easily won the next two games and dummied Pittsburgh in the ECF to play for the Cup.
Tried to draw a penalty before the game even started.
He was often a liability in Montreal.
One of the main reason he got traded from Mtl, always taking dumb penalties
@@kermitfrog593 oh he just lit a little fire under Brad Marchand thats all, and then kept doing it... see ya for game 5
The salaries of the Bruins goal scorers combined is less than Auston Matthews alone. Just a fun fact.
Yepppp, you can’t win with you can’t win with 40 million tied up in 4 players, not to mention 2 d making 5 and 6 million, leaves you 0 money to slot defence and a good tandem. Idk how there owner and management hasn’t fkn realized that.

Aaron and Nick... this is very clearly a joke
I’ve watched the Lightning for a long time. Stamkos has always been one of the hardest working guys on the ice. He was never a PPG player in the playoffs. But he was always part of some of the biggest moments in games. When he takes a slap shot from big Z to the face in 2011 and CAME BACK to finish the game after having his face deconstructed and put back together. In 2020 he came back for one game played two shifts less than 5 minutes and got the FIRST goal of the game. The bench was electric after that, we won the game 5-2 and then the series. Stamkos proved he’s that guy several times leading up to the Bolts’ cup wins. I haven’t see these moments from Matthews, Marner or Tavares.

To the ones complaining it was because they were without Nylander and McMann: the bruins gutted their entire forward core (Bergeron, Krejci, Bertuzzi, Taylor Hall) and did nothing to improve it in the off-season. Not to mention one of their best playoff performers is NOW A LEAF. You just witnessed a Jake Debrusk masterclass.
Also, statistically the bruins offense runs through one guy and it’s Pastrnak and the leafs late Debrusk, John Beecher, and Trent Frederick, and Brandon Carlo walk all over them 😭😭
More of a masterclass in what a goalie can do for you when they suck vs when they're good.

I laughed out loud when I went to check the score and it was 4-0 before the end of the 2nd lol.
I could feel the depression of Leafs Nation looking at the score
Watching you meltdown is the best part of being a Bruins fan 😂
The Leafs looked liked they were focused more on trying to prove they were tougher than Boston rather than playing good hockey. Physicality is good so long as you're smart. The Leafs weren't. I love Domi but before the puck was dropped he was cross-checking and slashing like crazy. Eventually, the refs had enough of him. That can't happen again.
If nothing else improves but the Matthews-Bertuzzi-Domi line, we're back in it. Lots of things should improve but they HAVE to improve. You can't let that much potential just flail around and take penalties that would look slopping in the first week of the regular season
I personally never understood it when teams try to match the playstyle of the opponent. Like Boston is a genuine gritty tough team. Toronto isn't but why are you trying to match it instead of working around that/ working to your strenghts. Sure in playoffs you have to crank up a bit of the intensity but either you are gritty or you just aren't. Like skill wise Toronto probably could run circles around the Bruins but they just don't. Hell Bruins don't even have a 1C. And while their D and Goalies are very good the offence (in theory) is lacking and shouldn't be such a big problem for the leafs like it was in this game.
Nailed it. Steve said it. Leafs were cosplaying snot, and grit. Those things will come. Go out and play your game. Control the play get pucks to the net and bang in a rebound. Just like the Kampf goal
@@ardesignsrc that is it, if the plan is to toss gm1 by just gooning the fuck out of boston, well just goon the fuck out of them don't cosplay it actually be fucking goons. eh but its the leafs they can't even get that right.
The problem is they can't keep up the intensity for 60 minutes. The Blues were able to check the Bruins into oblivion in 2019 sixty minutes a night, the Leafs aren't built for that.
I wanna say we're in for an all-timer here, but the next 3 after this will probably top this one
Last year was the "now". This is the "never" part of the equation.
Matthews was also won 27% of his faceoffs tonight, another big issue for this team

Omg that should be in a tv show. What a good quote
Neutral fan here. I agree with Steve the leafs didn’t play a terrible hockey game. They were competitive at 5v5 at least the first two periods and they shit the bed on some chances that they definitely should’ve scored.
But the thing about snot or grit definitely rings true as someone who didn’t watch the leafs that much in regular season and basing my take on just this game. The leafs’ idea of grit seems to be to just take a bunch of penalties which makes you lose the game instantly because, shocker, playoff teams have good power plays.
Playing with grit is about fighting to turn pucks over and giving good chances and space to your scorers, and that’s really not what the leafs were doing this game.
Now for a little tangent, Reaves to me is a perfect example of the kind of player that maintains the image of playing with grit but who doesn’t really bring any of those benefits to his team when you look at how he actually plays. But that’s just my subjective opinion as a hater.
He started the season playing terrible but he had a very good run where his offense was passable, his backcheck was solid and he could lay people out. In this game he landed some solid hits, but that first turnover was terrible. I'm not that worried about him though. He just fills a slot. If he isn't doing anything bad, he's serving his purpose just by being hard to move. If he steps up and actually makes some nice plays he's doing more than is required of him.
Those are some solid points. But I would also say that the Leafs have been terrible on the forecheck and were God-awful in clearing their own zone. The Bruins have all day to move the puck up the ice, and once in the Leafs zone, they have far too much space to set up and tee off. The best Leafs chances were when they were pressuring the Bruins in the Bruins own zone.
Reaves created 4 different scoring chances by laying hits and causing turnovers. Reaves is literally why the only goal happened at all. The problem is and I have said this all year Keefe doesn't know how to use a true 4th line. That line should be on the ice when pasta is out there or once he got hot Debrusk. The goal of a 4th line is to either shutdown the top line OR make their night physically miserable. But for some reason keefe goes "oh let's do skill vs skill.... that always works."
Some of the penalties with charmin soft though like McCabe’s cross check, but taking three high stick penalties is wild.
Steve is wrong and the Leafs played terrible. Their best player was the goal post and the score should have been 8-1. They were terrible.
Will Keefe coach in Pitsburgh next year?
I would gladly trade coaches with Pittsburgh!
How many series games are going to go like this before Shannahan realizes that our fundamental systems are flawed? This is like Groundhog day watching this team losing in the playoffs. He needs to go.
Jake DeBrusk: ohhh... you think snot is your ally? You merely adopted the snot. I was born in it, molded by it. I mean... have you met my dad?
Took a while for this one to drop, I was starting to get worried. Good to see you’re taking it well Steve
The deserve to win o meter might as well be renamed “High grade copium dose”
Or 'excuse for another Leafs loss o meter'.
Definitely something a poverty franchise comes up with.
Troll-o-meter.
It's because the leafs generated 4.5 xG on one powerplay. You of course can't score more than 1 goal on a single 2-minute powerplay and their models pay 0 mind to the timing or sequence of shot attempts so you end up with extremely goofy results like this where you can be expected to score 4.5 goals in one sequence when the actual true expected value should be less than 1.
I shouldn’t take this much joy from this reaction 😁
As a Bruins fan it was fun watching your stream and i plan on watching it again this entire serious.

Nylander did not even play thats how much he cares. Maybe he has bloodclots from the clotshot
What a stupid comment. Seriously that’s idiotic.
it's why everything about the league would be better if players earned a base salary, which was then increased in percentage with every playoff win, and the biggest being a championship.
Oh, I think they care. Don’t think that’s the issue. I think management doesn’t care.
I watched the first period of the game, with no dog in the race (go caps) and my impression was that the leafs were "overheating" with the physicality. They didn't throw hits to make a play, they threw hits to throw hits. And that cost them when they allowed the 2 on 1 leading to the first goal. Hope they can do better in the second game and be physical when needed and not just for the sake of it.
yeah, if the whole point this game was the leafs to not give a fuck gm1 just goon the hell out of boston, they failed. if you gonna just toss a game and be a shit load of goons then peeps need to be leaving the game.

Even as a Bruins fan I don't know how we own the Leafs so much. Our team isn't even that good this year at all. We are hoping to win one round maybe two. But I think the grittiness of the Bruins is just always too much for the sophisticated big names of the Leafs.
We had the same thing with the Senators in the 90's. They were much better but we owned them in the playoffs
Same as how they somehow own the Penguins. The Leafs rely on finesse and their core four. The Bruins rely on prodding and poking them to get them out of rhythm. Not to mention Jake DeBrusk transforms into Cam Neely when he sees the Leafs.
THE Bruins lost HUGE players in the offseason. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year. Just saying
@deahelkcunklaer2180
the 1967 jokers puff and at last poop again
What you call grittiness can actually be treated as defence first. Bruins have a formidable defence first mentality, whereas with the leafs it’s offense at all cost, now combined with a unique strategy of slapping people to take penalties.

I am looking forward to the start of the season in October and the moves that are made in the summer to make the team capable of winning a Stanley Cup. Does any know if Tavares contract is up July 1st this year? Marner do you sign him before July 1st with a movement clause and trade him or let him walk?
I believe Tavares has 1 more year. I think you let Marner walk. If he's signed, he'll want more than can be afforded and want a no movement clause. At least if you let him walk, the Leafs will have much more cap space to add better defense.
Watching tonight those 2 are expendable. Tavares just escapes criticism and Marner is too small for playoffs. Matthews was by far their best player tonight.
They signed a 7 year contract. It included a one win in second round clause.
The deserve to win o'meter graphic is the funniest thing to exist
Just a team that doesn’t want to play playoff hockey where there is more contact, urgency, and you don’t score cute goals.
Can we all agree Keefe sucks ? We always get put coached
Until management fires him you will likely never go anywhere in postseason
MacKinnon is a lights out, no quit player. I would take him over any player in the league.
Mayhews looks like a soft man that can score goals. Like his mom made him his breakfast when he was 18.
I watched him for a game. No thanks Matthews is better defensively (selke candidate) and steals pucks from players all game long along with being a goal scoring freak of nature.
@@disinformationworld9378 lol, I can only assume your username has something to do with this response.
@@reedhoule3045 There has never been a rocket trophy winner who has been considered for the Selke trophy. Game is played on two sides of the rink. Some fans haven’t grasped this for some reason. Probably because of rose colored glasses disinformation.
@@disinformationworld9378MacKinnon has a Cup, Matthews and McDavid combine for 0. That tells us all we need to know. Matthews is trash, MacKinnon is the greatest player since Crosby.
Wow, great call about Beecher. Good insight as usual.
