As a lifelong Leafs fan I can confirm his job is damn near impossible. Not with the core 4 and a lack of ability to fill out the roster with a proper d line and #1 goalie, though if healthy I love Wolls game.

I honestly don't think it matters who coaches unless the team dynamic in the dressing room changes to drastically that means accountability team toughness

Don't think he's gonna make any difference. O'Keefe did a good job producing best results in franchise history. Yes they fell short again in playoffs but fought back down 1-3 and last season they made round 2. They don't produce enough goals in playoffs but they also have goalie problem.

You do understand the Leafs top 4 will also represent their countries at the 2026 Olympics right? So coaching at the Olympics will be more intense and will demand more of players than whatever Berube will throw at them.

If Berube does not advocate modern hockey, it is not the right choice. Does not matter what the fans want. Nylander is the only one that stands up and tells everyone to not be babies.

Agreed you must use the NewAge Hockey System in todays game or you cannot compete with those who do. Vancouver and NYR and every Playoff Team left is using a variant of the NHS. If Tocchet uses it Berube will use it, the Blues used the early original version from 2012 it to win their Cup.

The team isn't bad. They need the other players besides core 4 to score goals. Plus they have a goalie problem. They need to fix this first.
Leafs were bullied into submission by Boston. Listen to the on ice audio. Boston beat them psychologically, got them worried, scared to lose, self-conscious. Not all the leafs, but just enough of the young stars. Berube is the right coach to help them stay focused on the goal, overcome the challenge, play fearless playoff hockey. He knows what it takes.

Hiring Berube is only one step-Treliving needs to make the right roster moves to make the team bigger,tougher and harder to play against.
The Leafs players don't hate to loose. Every regular season gets going and all they do is win so they they're fine until its not.
Out is Dubas and Keefe and in are Treliving and Berube so Leafs fans will have to wait and see if the Treliving and Berube combo is better than the Dubas-Keefe duo.
They already are as Dubas was a shitty gm that built a soft team which Treliving brought in better players with grit. Plus Dubas is a work idiot that is now destroying the Pens.
Keefe is a horrible coach and was too easy on them, never kept lines with chemistry together, put out the 3rd and 4th lines at wrong times (happened in game 7 on the tying goal), got out coached in important games etc…

Leafs need a lot of changes to compete / beat the teams now playing in the 2nd round. A new coach won't do much until the team is shaken up to a play playoff style hockey system
St. Louis was dead last in the NHL at Christmas time and ended up winning the cup..... Craig Berube's hiring turned them around.

Our Stanley Cup window just closed. He cannot take young players & develop a cup team. But he will let you know where the problems lie. You have enough talent in Toronto but it will take a few changes that Berube wants. Get ready to play heavy & Forecheck but most importantly you have to Backcheck. No skating around waiting for the Puck, You have to take it. Good luck Toronto. Berube will Never Ever be forgotten here in St Louis. Cant wait until you come to town. It will be one of longest Standing Ovations ever Heard.

Berube is not the answer here. Marner, Tavares, Reilly, Brodie, Shanahan and few select others need to go. Bring in 1 to 2 stud defensemen and a decent goalie and MAYBE you get to the second round otherwise we lose again. This team is NOT built for the playoffs!

I don't know that this means much. The coach has to be able to motivate the entitled millionaires to play. Additionally, average goaltending and below average defense. There's only so much any coach can do.

Marner and Travers are the only ones who have had a tough coach. Both played for Dale Hunter, who runs team like they played as players. So this will be normal for them. The other two are the question markers as they have never played for that type of coaching... good luck to them.
