shichuan looks lovely, but i'm not very tolerant of spicy food. huhu.

The anti poverty effort in China for the past 30 years is amazing.
it is such a brilliant idea, it brings old generations into the fold and uplifts them at the same time.
I've seen so many misunderstandings towards Chinese people on the Internet, and I am quite saddened, reckoning that they haven’t t found the right way to see China. Obviously, Katherine, you've found your own individualistic and unique way. Thank you for letting the world know China better! ❤️
Katherine is one "Chinese" who can speak multiple languages. She is priceless.
I don't think there's misunderstanding. They just ignorant and one track mind, believing in their own race superiority and mix with western propaganda.
China is now facing a fifth wave of the epidemic which it cannot easily control without major ' societal disturbances' (to put it mildly). They engaged in risky gain of function virus research and unleashed a virus they could not control. Instructions for Agent K - The mid to long term effects of this pandemic including the upcoming World wide food crisis and increased cross border wars may well spell the doom for the majority of human population. My advice, if you are fortunate enough is to identify islands of stability such as Australia new Zealand, south pacific etc and try to bunker down with supplies and neighbours you can trust or at least are not a threat. Remember you don't have to prep for years of self sufficiency. You only have to survive the population transition
Fun fact: Huawei's founder Ren zhengfei is from Guizhou province. He grew up extremely poor in a village probably like this, but was able to study telecommunication in the army and became one of the most respected entrepreneurs in China.
Thank you Alan for this very interesting fun fact.
What another gem of a video!
Seeing these friendly people modernising their way of living but at the same time retaining some elements of their precious tradition like those ingenious fake wood-looking outer walls is awesome. Most important of all they look happy and content. :D
What a treat this video is. The people, culture, changes, … Thank you for sharing your love for people, tradition, history, China, … I have the same loves cannot get enough time exploring beautiful China. Your videos do quench my thirst at the moment. Once this pandemic is over, I will be on the first plane to Shanghai to explore all over beautiful China. GODspeed in all your endeavors & studies.
Hope you can come visit soon, darn this pandemic 😷😭
I hope you can visit my hometown Chengdu and Deyang. There are hot pot and giant pandas here.
i guess i can understand what the old grandpa is talking about, he says he means Shuipu village has been merged with another two villages. in fact this is also a part of rural society changes in China during the last two or three decades, more and more younger generation left from remote rural area, and went to bigger ciries, seeking for better living and job opportunities, so population in rural area like Shuipu village keeps shrinking, so the government will merge several shrinking villages as well as towns like Shuipu into one bigger village or bigger town, so as to reduce cost of government management.
@@fontaschan4665Thank you for the translation and the explanation!
Wow, this video was amazing. The Shui people seem so kind, even though there's a language barrier much of the time. It warmed my heart to see how the man who gave you guys a pomelo refused to take your money, even though Wei tried to insist. Safe travels to you both
The chicken crowing really brings up the peace deep in my heart.
I'm Chinese but born and raised abroad...I feel sad when I see laowai seeing more of China than me 😭
Hope you can see more of china someday , whenever this annoying virus ends 🦠 😷

11: 33. The lady, who is not fluent in Mandarin and dresses up like an aquarium, said she was going to "走亲,喝酒", which means "visit relatives and drink wedding wine".
In China's traditional culture, neighbors, relatives and friends will bring gifts to the scene to congratulate and help when they encounter wedding or funeral events such as taking a wife, marrying a daughter, having children, celebrating their birthday, and the host's family will entertain guests with drinks and food.
Good works. Katherine & Wei.
Katherine’s channel has carved a niche as far as China-related contents are concerned. Your videos are unique and authentic coz not many UA-camrs showcase abandoned wooden houses in unknown villages, and the fact that you speak fluent Mandarin helps you communicate with the villagers and understand their history and culture on a deeper level.
Lots more exploring of random places coming soon😁😁
Very interesting look into a village that has evolved over the decades. My silly self started thinking about the 3 little pigs and the big bad wolf as Katherine describes the various builds of homes.
The life these people live are simple yet happy. Thanks for showing us.
Glad you liked it , more videos coming soon🌼🌼
I am a Chinese and like to travel. However, you travel much more than me in China and more exploring! I admire you for all your experience.

Sandu Shui Autonomous County (Chinese: 三都水族自治县) is an autonomous county in the southen area of Guizhou province, China. It is under the administration of the Qiannan Buyei and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, and the only Shui Autonomous County in China; 63% of Shui in China live in this county, which is the heartland of the Shui people. Sandu has a population of 400,000, 97% of whom belong to ethnic minorities and 67% of the total population are Shui. It is one of the poorest counties of Guizhou. Most of the county is forested and it is noted for its clean air and warm hospitality of Shui people.
Hope you have a pleasant journey here.
The smell of thistle and other unknown plants, blue haze silhouetting the remote mountains, rusty farming tools on the lichen floor, running into strange ppl or animal around every stranded building.
You and Wei are so lucky to have each other, and have the moments together.
Love this description ❤️ life is full of beautiful details and we treasure every one 😄
Despite how simple it is on life in rural/agricultural areas, but still gives a peaceful and natural environment in the mountains.
Followed you and Blondie's channel at the same time, I love both. But gradually I like your work more, because the perspective of the story is unique, and can't find anyone similar so far. Always support you and Wei and look forward to more and better videos.

Interesting, very interesting. Much better than national geographic.
I like this type of adventures.
Glad to see your published video, in view of the recent aviation incident. A moment of silence for those onboard the ill-fated flight and wishing affected family and friends can move on after they have grieved.
Back to your video now - nice to see the minorities being shown. Good job! I wonder how many people know that there are minorities even among the billions and billions of Chinese people in China and elsewhere around the world.
🥺🙏
Because you are outgoing and kind people, that's why you often meet similar type of people along your journey.
This village is truly a hidden treasure. Stunning old village homes, rustic stone and timber set along narrow alleys weaving its way up and down the sloping terrain. It’s perfect for restoration and can easily turn into a movie setting. Thanks for showing us this exquisite discovery
I do hope Wei reads the many posts by your subscribers to see the positive impact they have to both the people from China & the people that now wants to visit because of your videos. Also, please thank him for his contributions to your videos. GODspeed to you both.
He doesn’t speak English but I translate many of the comments to him 🌼🌼we like seeing what everyone has to say about our videos 😁
I am overseas Chinese but had not the privileges of witnessing the progress and changes of live of people in China as Kate.
I must thank her for sharing .
Very beautiful video! It is such a pity that old traditions, ancient villages ...are disappearing. China is undoubtedely a country which is developing more and more but despite this some traditions of the past should be preserved, like these awesome villages surrounded by an extraordinary nature. Thank you very much for sharing your adventure with us.
Wonderful looking place. Thanks for bringing us along and discover more of the ethnic minorities China. Cheers to you both.
Thank you for a look at this place, it's sad to see such traditional villages disappearing.
Love it or hate it, that's progress ! And progress has penetrated into every little corner of China. Where are the dismal lives and living conditions of the Chinese people that so many outsiders either choose to portray or believe in?
@@spadeysay6846 I know it's "progress" but it's still a shame to see certain ways of live disappear if the people living them still like them.

@@VerhoevenSimon Hey man they are real people, not a relic for others to watch :) They want nice houses and nice cars just like you - you wouldn't happen to commute to work on your ox wagon in the name of cultural preservation, would you? Some folks just don't get it - like, unless the Tibetans crawl for 100 miles to pilgrimage, it's "genocide" - while they fly in with jumbo jets and $1000 Costco cameras as spectators. Thank you for your brevity and curiosity of venturing, showing the other side of and the very friendly side of China. That most of the foreigners can’t really reach.
Hey Katherine, it should be 55 ethnic minorities (56 ethnic groups). Always love your village videos ❤️ looking forward to seeing more !
Love the smile of the people. Showing us that actually life can be so simple and full of contentment in this world.
So interesting.., real time, real people and real story. 👏👏👏👍😁
Dear Katherine. I am student in biology, just undergraduate in my secondary year of university, but I am pretty sure human is not of genus legume but belongs to genus hominid (of species sapient). Also the plant and animal kingdoms are not closely related, having been separated in evolutionary times by some 900 million years
Sorry Lol should have consulted an expert first 🤣🤣
Thank you again for the nice video and the wonderful villages and its people. Life is simple and happy; no wonder they are so healthy and live so much longer.
Gee, Wei is sooooo cheeky!!! It is so scenic around there. You are very fortunate to capture the village before it disappears. It is nice that one of the villages is preserved!
Thank you Katherine! Your videos always brings a smile to me and it always brightens up my day! 🤗👍
they do have a committee of experts and academics working with local officials to determine whether a specific area needs to be preserved.
In Bisaya language (2nd most spoken language in the Philippines), we call pomelo a "boongon" 😉
Such a peaceful old village. Chicken and ducks seem to take over the leisurely place. China must develop these rural agricultural areas so that young people don't all need to move into crowded cities. Soon the old wooden houses that are worth preserving will become renovated airbnb for the curious tourists from the cities. Can't hold back the march towards modernity even in remote villages. Let there be 5G & wi-fi.
it costs a fortune to run sewage and waste-water lines and upgrade for lodging purpose. the government relocated those willing to move to a central area where they have job opportunity and receive the service they're entitled to.
@@willengel2458 Makes sense to build new settlement away from old area. It is more cost-effective to plan and build from scratch.
@@stanbimi Katherine actually showed the new houses where they moved to. they can see, visit, and size up things before they commit themselves.
big companies donated furniture to furnish the apartments.
@@willengel2458 City planners and architects concluded from past experiences that it's too much trouble to "renovate & modernize" old cities, e.g. Guangzhou, Suzhou. Best to build a whole new city in adjacent land, and preserve the ancient city as tourist attraction.

Very interesting village tour in China.
The old and new sections of old villages show "Common Prosperity" is working well. Thanks!
A very old and peaceful village. The local people are very friendly.
It is great to let us learn about the countryside of China, it is gradually fading away but life is progressing.
❤️❤️❤️Katherine, thank you for sharing this video , i love it . It not only opened my eyes , I m amazed by the people who cab live such a long healthy life without advanced hospital and doctors support nearby their home . They do t have much but they can be satisfied to have simply life since the day they were born in ghost small village . How blessed we are but we often forget until we see we can have many choices of food, drinks , high internet . entertainment. , school to learn new things from each other and able to choose to learn to more languages . ❤️😍🥰🥰
Personally, the only ones I would call blessings in the things you mentioned are school and learning more languages. Too many choices in food and drinks can be bad for health, and ofc internet + entertainment can make us addicted to make-believe things and some people completely get out of touch with reality because of that. I think these rural people are much more grounded in the real world tbh😅
it's all the processed food with all the preservatives/unknown chemicals that ... 😁😁
Great video. Fascinating glimpse into the Shui people and the ways their villages are changing. Highly informative and heartwarming.
I am growing increasingly concerned about Wei's recent insubordinations and fear it will only get much worse unless pre emptive 'measures' are taken on your part to decisively reign it in

Another enjoyable video! I love how you've captured a lot of old but definitely in shape people, straight backs, lean weights etc. I think the lack of junk food (thanks a lot US fast food 😆) has something to do with it. I'm Filipino-Chinese and even back home I noticed a lot of older people in the remote areas (in the Philippines we have the ethnic groups in the Cordillera Autonomous Region for example) are kind of healthier compared to the middle-aged to older people in the cities. Looking forward to more ~
Yeah usually as society progresses/modernizes peoples life expectancy goes up yet I have seen some exceptions to that in these tiny villages 🤣 good air , natural food , lots of exercise , there are lots of healthy old ppl
Aged people in remote areas do farm work day to day, as is shown in this video. That's how they keep fit.
@@robertreiku2554 Ya that helps a lot too, besides the natural diet, especially since they've been doing it since they were young and so they are at a different level to city people in terms of stamina and the age of their vital organs. 😁

Much appreciated for your work! You inspire many Chinese like me to know better their own culture and history. Katherine and Wei, most people in Guizhou speak Guizhou dialect, which is pretty much similar to Sichuan dielect. In fact, most people from Sichuan , Chongqing , Yunnan, Guizhou, the small part of West Hubei, and North Guangxi speak Sichuan dielect or its close variants, including many ethnic minorities in those provinces. Older generations of Han Chinese in those areas don't understand or speak Mandarin.
