Did you say those bottle rockets going off - 放炮 的 声音, sounded like Chicago? Well, I did not know that Chicago also celebrated Chinese New Year's like that ... or were you insinuating actual guns going off w/o stopping in Chiraq? ... haha. That was done in bad taste! So where were you from in the States? Don't ever say West Virginia, where eating possum is still a delicacy ... feel me!

Thanks for this immersive video. Sure, your relative are proud of you. You are more Chinese than Chinese. Every CNY festival and celebration in China never fails to leave a deep impression on the viewers. The mouthwatering food varieties and spirits of the warmth and togetherness of the Chinese is first class. Hopefully with modernity, the tradition still can be preserved only in rural hometowns as folks from cities go back for reunions. With fantastic rails and roads with efficiency, the huge yearly event of looking forward to meeting loved ones must be emotional overwhelming.

LMAO I nearly lost it when there's all those fireworks and then the auntie goes "we're gonna set off more fireworks, and then we'll have dinner" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 If I'm ever in rural China for Chinese New Year, I feel like I won't be able to stop laughing from all the fireworks going off! Funny how Katherine mentioned Chicago because I lived in West Oakland for YEARS and I never heard anything even close to this. And actually, setting off fireworks was usually a pretty quick way to get the cops chasing you, even on the nights the Warriors won the NBA Championships.

That's a cute little tour guide ya got there. He speaks so fast I could hardly catch what he said.
The evening program is broadcast to my country live every year same time. I also never miss it every year while waiting for the fireworks at midnight.
Unfortunately rain did also dampen out the fireworks here too.
It was suppose to be a fireworks gallore this year as it has been permitted to be sold after a long ban.
The change in governance lifted the ban literally days before CNY. Somehow people still managed to sell and buy some in time. As for me, I sort of was oblivious of the lifting of the ban and didn't get any.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed they would continue next year.
Tell you something, a CNY is not exciting nor happiest without fireworks and children(the more the merrier).
I just love to play fireworks with young children around the ages of 6 onwards, they are just so happy the vibe spreads to you.

Growing up in Singapore in the late 1950s, Chinese New Year was a big event. Businesses and shops closed for at least 3 days, some closed for a week. Food, family reunions, visiting elders, receiving visitors, were time honored activity. For unmarried children, they also received red packets stuffed with cash. These symbolised luck for both givers and recievers. And yes, the firework displays added so much to the celebration and festivity. Unfortunately, fireworks were also a fire hazard then and when the government banned fireworks, we lost a big part of the emotional atmosphere that characterised CNY for my generation.
Katherine, thank you very much for reviving these long embedded memories.

      之前有段时间城市禁止燃放烟花爆竹,农村不限制,今年春节城市也不禁止了。

Certain metropolitan areas banned it. But China is vast.
