We had a Chow Chow when I was growing up. He was agressive to anyone who was not part of the family. We only had to have him shaved one time. He had hot spots that we could not get to clear up so the vet recommended shaving to us. The dog was so embarrassed after being shaved. We played with him a lot. He was difficult to keep in a fence. He would climb the fence and escape.
My chow chow who loves to go to the groomer enjoyed this video. The sound of the clippers relax her. I took her to get groomed very young and got her used to brushing day one. “Brushes gets the cookie.” Haha. I rescued a persian cat and her hair was like this - like a helmet. I brush my chow chow almost every day.
I love her! I had the pleasure of meeting my very first Chow Chow and she was soo friendly! 💖 She sat on my feet and demanded I give her pets. 😊 She is 14 years old and is very very affectionate.
Growing up, my mother had a Chow that she was too lazy to groom. One day she re-homed him, and got a breeding pair of Pomeranians. Obviously she had the same problem maintaining their hair too. I grew up with sad matted dogs that suffered ptsd from groomers because it was impossible to groom them without hurting them. Bad animal husbandry has a negative impact on the whole family.
😢the dog seems to be enjoying My dog is a chow but he is so gentle and sweet . He likes grooming . It is only a matter of how loving and caring we are to them . I welcome chows always . They have very loyal and caring personality . They have a good self discipline in their toilet habits without training. I did not see them in other dogs
Wow!!! First time I’ve seen an undercoat like this. Almost looks like you r shearing a sheep. Haha. That’s a lot of work!! Can someone tell me why they say not to shave a dog with a second coat?? I’ve always been curious 🤷♀️
The double coat is how dogs thermoregulate. So it keeps them warm in winter --- and amazingly, it also keeps them cool in summer. Recommended in general not to shave dogs unless medically needed. Better to get them used to brushing from an early age.
You talked about the skin being pink & blue, if you notice inside her mouth is also not all black. Both things point to her not being purebred. I can say this with over 35 yrs experience with the breed. You also said Chows dont give warnings before they bite, but they do, they give 2 actually , you just have to know what you're looking for. You saying all Chows sre aggressive is like saying all Rottweilers are aggressive. Wish you eould have met a few of mine ( am currently down to 6 pirebred Chows) before you judge them all
This just should not be allowed!!! How could you ruin a dogs coat like this!!!! I am a groomer, I wouldn't do this for any amount, the owners need educating on double coats, as you do!!!
Maintaining the double coat only matters for out door / working dogs or akc dogs. If your dog spends most of it's time living indoors where it doesn't drop below the 70's, it will get no benefit from it's double coat system.
She did good without the muzzle! ❤
What a relief for the dog. I can recognize your old salon.❤
Had chows for years.
When they get older we shave ours. It makes them comfortable.
I think shaving was the best solution for this old dog.

Poor old girl. I have had 3 double coated dogs and taught them as puppies brushing was our fun time... especially my American Eskimo.

I thought you were doing a Lion cut at first!
Awesome job
My old family dog was half Chow Chow. Sweetest family dog we ever had. Such a shame you've had bad experiences with the breed. :(

You are brave to shave this dog!!!!
I’m sorry but when you closed the dogs mouth to trim the silence was bliss! 😂😂😂 I can’t take the panting. 😢
Hi you did her a good thing for her I'm sure. She probably is felt relieved it's probably like wearing a fur coat all day long ugh lol
I shave double coated dogs because owners just don't brush enough 😢

Why are all your grooms shave downs? Don't you ever get just a normal groom, one that is not in a situation of shave down? Just curious!
