I didn't know Nicola Yoon published another book! I absolutely loved the Sun is also a Star. I will check out Instructions for Dancing! (I happened to do dance when I was younger too!)
I had no idea either! I'm not a romance reader but The Sun Is Also A star is one of the most enjoyable stories I've ever read. Definitely checking out Instructions for Dancing!
I read The Humans right after The Midnight Library and I liked them both equally. I like how Matt Haig’s books are very existential and introspective. I thought the beginning was a little rocky, but overall it was very funny and full of heart. I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Yipee! I had humans on my list to be read since last yr. Now you made it easy for me if i want to pick it up or not...ur reviews always help! Thanku :)
The Humans: I loved the first half considerably more. While I didn't mind per se the arc, I felt the change came too quick, and the second part had lots of cliches and recycled material that is not even told in a very interesting way. The observational comedy of the first half was much more interesting and funnier. But, all in all, I really liked it.
I just read The Humans last month and was so pleasantly surprised by it. I won’t ever re-read it, and I’ll probably go long stretches of time forgetting all about it. But it touched me while I was reading it and am glad I gave it a shot.
I read "The Humans" without really knowing anything about it ahead of time, and I really liked it. I'm glad I hadn't seen a review like this ahead of time, because knowing even this much about what to expect might have spoiled it a bit for me. It felt more like literary fiction than science fiction to me, and I'd be more inclined to recommend it to someone who loves literary fiction but hates sci-fi than to someone who lives sci-fi but hates literary fiction.
I think just picking up the book and reading it without any preparation/information is the ideal experience for it. I picked it up used just because I needed some book to read.
I had purchased a signed copy of Instructions for Dancing when it first came out at Barnes and Noble but haven't read it yet. Will have to bump it up to higher on my list now!
Hey Merphy, great review! I also wanted to say if you are looking for a lit genre novel to read I would recommend East of Eden by John Steinback. I read mostly fantasy sci-fi but this book has quickly become one of my favorite books of all time, and I think you would like it.
I really like The humans. The humor was really good and I love the instrospectic parts and the depiction of humanity. Haven't heard of the romance one but it sounds interesting.
I just finished how to stop time by matt haig and I wanted to read this one and I was looking for a review thank you so kuch for this and what a timing also planning to read instructions for dancing it sounds so good
"And instructions for dancing..." Peter Gabriel lyrics from The Book of Love :) i reccomend giving it a listen; it's beautiful. It was played at the end of Scrubs to amazing affect, and I sang it at my sister's wedding for their first song :)
As a long time romance reader I would not call Instructions for Dancing a romance. It's really not. I did love it, but I went into expecting a light YA romance and it really wasn't.
Unrelated, but I'm reading Lies of Locke Lamora, I didn't expect to be so upset about a character that appeared in 2 scenes to die, her death was really unnecessary and I had to put the book down yesterday. The book is pretty good tho
Instructions for dancing sounds great, but I could never read a book with a main character named Evy(spelling?) I would just keep thinking of the pokemon.
love your review on "The humans"! I just posted my review on it as well on my youtube and would love if you can check it out. it's definitely a comedic book. i'm going to add "instructions for dancing" on my good reads list!
I didn't like "The Humans". I found it cliched, predictable and the humor was nothing new. I was way more interested in the equation the mathematician solved. That would have been a story I'd have loved to read.
"The book needed more angst" is not a sentence I ever thought I'd hear from Merphy lol
I do get what you mean, though

Try how to stop time as well it's really good
@@booklovershourya1046 I‘ll check it out, thanks!
Yay more sci-fi! I loved the humans. I recommend it to a lot of people who don't read.
I was a little disappointed with Humans, but think it was b/c I read it right after Midnight Library also by Haig. Which was amazing!!!
Yipee! I had humans on my list to be read since last yr. Now you made it easy for me if i want to pick it up or not...ur reviews always help! Thanku :)

The humans was such a unique read! I really loved how it made me stop and reflect on my own life and humanity as a whole.
Instructions for Dancing is on my reading list. Looking forward to enjoying the book. 📚

I really enjoyed instructions for dancing, but that ending ugh!!
right????
@@FromAnonymouse I dident really feel like it fits with the rest of the book.
@@thelibrarianofalexandria6200 I couldn’t agree more! And like Merphy said, it lacked a certain angst and “dissection of feelings”
@@FromAnonymouse well except the ending I liked the book.
i have both books in my shelf, can't wait to read the humans especially!!

It's so hard to find a nice romance, but that sounds good.
I have been convinced to read both of these books.

Matt Haig has written some very cool books. I haven't read all of them but really liked the 2 that I have, so I'll give this a try.
I just finished how to stop time by matt haig and I wanted to read this one and I was looking for a review thank you so kuch for this and what a timing also planning to read instructions for dancing it sounds so good
Hmans is now on my TBR. I've read Hail Mary, and enjoyed it very much, so this promises to be a good read.
As a dancer, I am really interested in Instructions for Dancing!
I finally read it and I couldn't put it down! It was so good!
Interesting review for The Humans. Thanks, Merphy. 🥰🤓😍
They both sound really interesting, putting them on my tbr
I enjoyed instructions for dancing! I had a few small things I didn't like about it but overall it was good!
Also intrigued by the Humans now too
I enjoyed your reviews and liked this video a lot… but I am loving that sweater… do you have a link for it?
No time stamps in the description?
"And instructions for dancing..." Peter Gabriel lyrics from The Book of Love :)
i reccomend giving it a listen; it's beautiful.
It was played at the end of Scrubs to amazing affect, and I sang it at my sister's wedding for their first song :)
review GearBreakers by Zoe Hana Mikuta! it's her debut book and I love it.
As a long time romance reader I would not call Instructions for Dancing a romance. It's really not. I did love it, but I went into expecting a light YA romance and it really wasn't.
I really liked The Humans it was so funny and the more serieus parts are also really good. I'm glad you also liked it. 😄
Will definitely read Haig's, loved ML. Love M's shirt, where did she get it?
I have anxiety disorder, can I still read The Humans? Or should i be cautious with some trigger warnings in this book? Thank you!
Unrelated, but I'm reading Lies of Locke Lamora, I didn't expect to be so upset about a character that appeared in 2 scenes to die, her death was really unnecessary and I had to put the book down yesterday. The book is pretty good tho
No angst you say.....well that sells it for me.
omg i love the humans!!
When you say "hard sci-fi", what exactly do you mean? When you said it's not hard sci-fi, but more like Andy Weir, I got quite confused.
Please review Artemis by Andy Wier.
I loved the Humans but I’m currently reading the Midnight Library and so far it’s quite disappointing :(
Instructions for dancing sounds great, but I could never read a book with a main character named Evy(spelling?) I would just keep thinking of the pokemon.
I love your face
love your review on "The humans"! I just posted my review on it as well on my youtube and would love if you can check it out. it's definitely a comedic book.
i'm going to add "instructions for dancing" on my good reads list!
are you sure it was just the nose that bothered the alien, maybe some other strange body part.
Why does The Humans sound like a sci-fi version of Neil Gaiman’s Good Omens?
No timestamps😭
I didn't like "The Humans". I found it cliched, predictable and the humor was nothing new. I was way more interested in the equation the mathematician solved. That would have been a story I'd have loved to read.
i thought the humans was incredibly meh and forgettable... :-/
