Great video! Another good reference for painting hair on miniatures is anime and manga as the art uses simplified/generalized highlights for hair that translates well to miniatures.
YES! im watching this video to get an idea because im going to paint the Bearded Yell! what a treat and coincidence that that bust showed up in this vid!
I have only just got back into painting Warhammer 40k mini's, after a 15 year break. and i have forgotten how hard it is. but loving the learning curve of coming back into the hobby.
Emil if you ever take on students I'm moving! My wife and I are going to get started painting miniatures as a fun pastime, and these videos are amazing! Much love from the states brother!
Thank you for this video! I've watched so many videos on hair... And have kind of decided on my own personal way I like. It's always nice to see different ways to paint hair
The thing you kind of touch on without specifically mentioning it while painting the hair on the Marine is the concept of the Golden Angle. I'm sure you and most others here know the idea but for those that don't, it's simply the concept of "which angle this miniature looks best from." Painting the highlights based on how light would reflect in it while viewed from this angle is usually gonna give you the best result.
omg that arch revenant conversion. mind blown. I’ve mine already finished, but I might need to do another one and steal your conversion idea. :D Video is awesome, too. WIll help me a lot for future minis!
Are you still painting? I think the best thing for you to do would be to take inspiration and some tips from videos. But you will improve the more you paint and you’ll also find your own way of doing things as you go. Just keep at it.
Hi, a friend 3D printed a panda on a rocking horse and asked me to paint it up for him. Any suggestions for getting the black fur looking realistic on a relatively flat surface?
I painted the exact same hair as your elf example and it bothered me where to put the highlights...where were you and with this video a few months ago?
Great contnet, how long is your extended kickstarter going for, im interested but I am in the final stages of buying a new home, need every penny I have at the moment. If i miss the kick starter can i purchase these else where.
I've watched this video like 10 times now, while trying to paint the hair of a bust XD Already scrapped 4h of work, because i didnt like the outcome and spent another 5h trying a few different things o_O But i am starting to like the current version :)
I'm sat at my desk paining as this video drops... Emil is an omnipotent God who sees all and bestows upon us mortals exactly what we need when the time is at its most dire
I have been struggle bus’ing with the rogue trader space marine without the helmet. That miniature’s hair looks like a helmet and his face has sooo few details it might as well be the: “Thin your paints” meme lol
Quick question if that's ok. How would you paint a shave stubble for male characters? (The type which is not a beard but thick and deep enough to upset the skin light reflection.
Awesome video. Caucasian and Asian hair behaves in this way because its round and channels light almost like a fiber optic. You should illustrate the curls of african decency hair, because its much flater it reflects light quiet differently and in a cool way, as it amost collects light exclusively at the tips and remains inky throughout especially on shorter hair stlyes, small 40k style minis often have hair thats scuplted in a way that could represent any racial hair type and it would be fun to show an example of that.
I think we need to address there is a right way of painting. That's if only the beautiful colour is being released through squidmar bristles. So right now we are all painting wrong!!
thanks for the video. pass on a message to Victor and tell him he has a very impressive beard. his hair is nice and shiney too *after typing that she feels like shes gone creeper mode* *says sorry in advance*
Actually, is there "right" way of painting anything? If it looks good, and if it works for miniature/style/other elements You can even paint what would be shadows white...

So how is the kickstarter doing?? Ship anything out yet????!!
Hello Emil, I’m seeking some advice on painting, I tried to contact you in Facebook, but got no response, what’s the best way to contact you?
You never mentioned what miniature you were painting on, at least I couldn't find it. What is that elvish archer with green hair for example?
Art lessons: magnificent. Causal plasma pistol on desk: priceless.
As someone who's painted alot of skeletons, dead things, and bald guys this will help out tremendously :) thanks squidmar!
Great video! Another good reference for painting hair on miniatures is anime and manga as the art uses simplified/generalized highlights for hair that translates well to miniatures.
Great video Emil! I'm happy that we got a real painting video again after a long time, and it is a great topic.
YES! im watching this video to get an idea because im going to paint the Bearded Yell! what a treat and coincidence that that bust showed up in this vid!
If you're painting a mini of Star Trek's Jean Luc Picard there is one way of painting hair.
Make it so

As someone who's just about to paint a load of eldar heads, with sexy top knots and such, this is exactly what I needed to see!
that space marine is amazing but with that hair looks so much better
I've been pondering how to paint the hair on that first sculpt for yonks. You've just unlocked it for me! Thanks very much Squidmar.

What's that 3rd model, with the long hair?
For really clean examples of idealized hair with interesting lighting, look at advertisements for hair coloring and hair care products.
Simple and great - instantly improved how I paint, particularly quick hair. Thanks.
Emil if you ever take on students I'm moving! My wife and I are going to get started painting miniatures as a fun pastime, and these videos are amazing! Much love from the states brother!
I want that third mini really badly, what is it? :O Beautiful video as always, so much appreciated!
What is the miniature at 4:23?
Thank you for this video! I've watched so many videos on hair... And have kind of decided on my own personal way I like. It's always nice to see different ways to paint hair
I can't believe you dare to hold the minis directly with those stained hands. Courage of a True Nord xD
Great! Thanks for this - will be using this when I do my figure painting (or elements of)

Incredible, as usually. Does anyone know the third mini's name or link?
Thanks for the tips! Your skills are through the roof!

I´ve always struggled to paint hair, hopefully I can improve a tiny bit from this :)
Thanks squid mar!
Good topic Emil!
Thank you ,Squid .
Great subject, thank you!
Great tips, this was super helpful!
I have no idea who this is and why youtube recommended this video to me but the content seems very good.
Your so good I wish I could paint like you when did you start playing warhammer and painting the miniatures I’ve just started and I’m twelve

Edit: oh, and hi Viktor!!
Super helpful video!!!!

I was just about to paint some spaghetti hair, every string, this video surely helps. thanks a lot.

How to introduce the editor victor: look at his hair!!!!!
Beard looks awesome also, maybe next week?!
What size are most of your minis? I know most of my D&D minis are 25-28mm and they seem too tiny to be able to paint as good as you!!
I painted the exact same hair as your elf example and it bothered me where to put the highlights...where were you and with this video a few months ago?
Viktor looks like an extra cast member from the show Vikings.
Hair has luster. Try mixing in a small bit of an appropriate metalic into your hair colors.

You changed the intro jingle, was that a remix of "Ika i Rutan"?
Manga and anime has always highlighted hair in the ways that you specified :)
By the way, what's the third miniature? From which company? I love it!
If you paint Khorne bloodhound, you haven't problem with hair :D

thanks for the video Emil. I am bald so i don´t know anything about hair
Is that a 3D printed plasma pistol at the end on your desk?
After 30 yrs of practice, I barely just mastered the old GW method. 😂

squidmar sweater still looking hot!
Hello Victor 😍
This and skin tone are the main reasons I stick to painting monsters. Truth be told, I find the contrast paints from Citadel turn out nicely on hair.
Maybe there's no right way to paint hair, but no matter what you still have to BRUSH IT!
Bdum-Tss.
what about making them real hair with natural wig?

How To paint hair
Step 1. Give your characters helmet
Step 2.???
Step 3. Profit
Settle for bald or helmeted miniatures
well, unless you are insane, there is a right way. using a brush.
How am I not subscribed?? UA-cam removed me...
