Nice job. It brings back memories of my dad fishing. I will be cleaning and restoring it in the near future. He left me his set-up which includes that reel with an Action stainless pole with Bakelite handle. I still have the wooden sleeve for the pole w/ canvas cover.
I acquired a Pflueger Akron this past spring. I paid $8 for it on eBay and didn't have high expectations for its utility when it arrived. It turned out to be really dirty, just like yours. After disassembling it completely I found that the dirt came off easily with isopropyl alcohol and paper towels. It came out nice and shiny. A little gear grease and some light oil on the spool axle had the reel running nicely. Because it is an "old school" reel I put 100 yards of black braided 15 pound test nylon line on it. The rod paired nicely with an old steel Betts casting rod similar to the one you have. The bullheads were biting in a ditch that fed a local lake, so I took it out to see if I could fish with it. I found that it cast so nicely without a hint of backlash. Granted, casts of 25 to 30 yards were the norm where I was fishing, but it found its niche in my bait fishing arsenal.
Not bad. The only problem I ever have after taking something like that apart, is figuring out what to do with all the left over parts when I put it back together. Good job.
i got a 1943 Pflueger trump bait caster i just got done working on with a 60's phantom glass rod these thing with a little bit of cleaning will last you for ever i also got my grandfather Langley cast right bait caster and all his all steel zebco 33 from the the late 50's and 60's threw the 70's
Andrew, so glad you were able to get these precious heirlooms. You obviously appreciate them and will care for them. Hope you can catch a few fish with these heirloom rigs. Grandfather Langley will be so proud.
You remind me of my dad in that he could fix anything from carburetors, guns, fishing reels and he was a quiet man who only spoke when he had something worth saying
I would have liked to see a cast with the combo in the front yard. Also, I would have liked seeing the new Mudhole Cork handle installed. Still great video. I believe I have one of those cork/metal rods with copper wraps in my garage. The cork is disintegrating. One of the copper wraps is unraveling. Thanks for the video.
Knot- is it a Palomar? I use it all the time but forget the name. It’s a nice 100% breaking strength knot and I use it frequently for off shore bait hooks for large tuna too. Oh, and I love the bobber you are using too. I don’t have any in my collection (vintage collection) but I want to start collecting them bc they look cool and are colorful. What year is that one from? Any books on old bobbers that you recommend??
I've known and used a bowline since I was a Boy Scout. But I'm not sure i know what a Bowline on a Bite is. Going to Google right now! Thanks for the comment.
Isn't fun taking something like that apart and brinning new lift to it? I have a Pflueger Rocket #1355, the reel is in excelent condition I took it apart and seviced it and I made sure everthing went back as it should. I use other baitcasters to bass fish with but this vintage Pfluerger I have a hard time casting with it without getting bird nests. it seams to lock up in the middle of the cast and the handle and spool turns freely and the adjustment knobs are set correctly. On these type of reels the reel handles should point up when making a cast yet I just keep on repeating birdnests. Any advice?
Older reels used a much thicker/heavier line. I’m no expert on vintage fishing line or vintage fishing tackle in general. Hope someone with experience and knowledge sees your post.

Very cool that you have those nice accessories. Thanks for watching my video and the nice comment.

Dan! That is awesome. Very happy to hear your story. Even better that you caught fish with that vintage masterpiece!
Awesome! I have the exact same reel and a rod that I re-wrapped. Mine has a very similar reel seat.
Amazing how clean that came! I am shook!
Thank you! I'm glad you visited my channel.
Now that was interesting. Something different to the standard tool restorations. Good job mate. 👍🇦🇺

A piece of art
Thank you sir.
That's cool that they used copper to hold those eyelets on.
Great job but I think we’re gonna need a bigger hammer
Cheers from Down Sth

Been my go to knot since, mmm, a long time ago. Nice that you get to fish for tuna, very cool.
It looks like a bowline on a bite. I’m an Arborist and Avid Fisherman. Knots are my thing, but my nest guess is a Bowline on a Bite.

That was clever dropping in PVC, Used the Evapo-Rust on the pole as well?
Thank you Bryan. The restoration of that rig occurred before I discovered EvapoRust. I believe I used undiluted vinegar.
Saat gibi tıkır tıkır işliyor
Thank you.
Palomar knot
Why a knot on the bobber?
So it could not, immediately, be stolen.
Buat mancing janda❤❤
Thank You
Didn't even cast it 😑
I made a video where I'm carp fishing with a Pflueger Akron reel and a steel rod. See it at: ua-cam.com/video/ZCufSiSu6NY/v-deo.html
