The start of this clip shows such incredible skills of co-ordination, the like of which I have never seen before. A truly wonderful use of an instrument giving such spirited play of an established and popular tune. I am full of envy and admiration and as a humble painter and decorator, the sight of the Tower Ballroom leaves me in awe of all that it is. I can only hope it all continues, it must never fail to entertain or impress in such a traditional seaside town setting.
Hi Chis, this song the first one is banging! I have been looking for this song for a very long time. You made me a very happy camper! God bless! And thanks.
This organ at the Tower Ballroom actually has a whole mechaincal/ electrical orchestra under the floor.Every stop and key opens and closes electrical supply to mechanically play the instruments below.Incredible engineering considering its age and technollogy when it was installed.
It sounds this way because it's a theater organ, made for silent movie theaters and designed to replicate the sound of an orchestra through specially designed pipes and tremulant boxes. You are correct in the organ's method of operation, although the pipes are located in various places to project sound and create surround sound
Thank you, Chris for this latest video of the ultimate master of the Blackpool Tower Ballroom WurliTzer. You are an accomplished organist as well. Good to see you playing too!!!
03:00 another fab player, who I never tire of watching - Chris Hopkins :) Sometimes Phil and Chris do duet pieces together, that's a whole new level of playing and enjoyment.
The one thing that strikes me with Phil is that he seems to be the only one who can pull off the water falling technique perfectly. Other organists who do it, do it too fast and make it sound a total mish mash, whereas Phil keeps both the tune and tempo going.
Anybody else thinks that this whole thing conveys an "eerie" atmosphere? Don't get me wrong: this gentleman is performing exceptionally well and the sound of the theater organ (Wurlitzer in particular) has made history. But still, there is something spooky resonating along... (no, I did not nibble any of those rainbow-colored pills...)
@@wersiorgan I like the key tapping actually, it adds a level of character to the performance, great to see his hands going so crazy on the keys and him leaning into the organ putting his all in to whatever he's playing, pedals an all. I listen to this regularly and watch him furiously playing that first song with feeling and it comes through in the sound.
Is it? Reg Dixon started doing it to help accentuate the beat to the throngs of dancers on the floor. Depending how you have your registrations set, it can be used to FANTASTIC effect, visually and musically.
He plays 'Java' as a novelty piece, which is, I suppose, a bit of 'Showing Off'.(The instrument as well as the performer). He does play 'properly' most of the time!

I remember going to blackpool 40 odd years ago &being absolutely astonished at this organ
The master organist at his best. I wonder if anyone has him playing 12st Rag that they could upload.
I am. new to this! This musician is the best!
He’s the maestro, and been at it over 40 years on this specific organ, as well as travelling around the world to other cinema organs.

That's why Mr Kelsall is the 'Gaffer'- or the Maestro lol. No one can make her sound like Phil does!

An amazing performance :)
Superb!
I thoroughly enjoyed that. Very theatrical in its own right.

I think it is the Wah on the record, it would be a good horror game soundtrack.
Mr Blackpool mk: two
Gordon Exmouth
Vroeger Reginald Dixon with community singing?
Great playing but clicking noises/fingers tapping the keys really prominent on this recording and spoils it a bit.
Hello. It was recorded with a simple hand held video cam, and wasn't intended for professional quality.

+Cannock Chase Organ Club Indeed, Phil is clearly using it to accent beats 2 & 4 of the accompaniment. Functional and entertaining to watch!
absolutely not.

I believe it's called, 'Entertainment.'
