Thanks for posting V J ! Love the footage, especially the confirmation of Bad Girls being Triple Platinum, along with Live and More at the time of the this clip. The RIAA didn't have multi-platinum certification until 1984 (only gold and platinum), Donna left Casablanca in 1980, and has never been update. Her RIAA certifications are far below her actual sales in the US, criminally so.
Used to love watching Hugh Downs and 20/20, so an unexpected pleasure to learn he was a Donna Summer fan! And this tribute is a wonderful visual and audio treat! She hits and sustains the high note in "Mac Arthur Park" in her prime, and we also have only the second live clip anywhere on UA-cam of her performing "Sunset People" live (first was on her TV special). The penguin walk gives a sense of her comedic skills and charm, and her skirt twirling in "Hot Stuff" a sense of her compelling stage presence. Hope this clip stays online for her fans for eternity. RIP.
If you have never seen Donna Summer LIVE and IN PERSON, you haven't really heard her sing. She was incredible, and her voice so powerful. When she hit certain notes and did certain things with her voice, it would hit me in the center of my chest and take my breath away. There never was and never will be another like her. Her voice so honest and strong, could cut through the music and soar above it, even through too much production (at times). She was the best. She was also a dear friend and helped me through a difficult time with her counsel, encouragement, and love. I miss her every day of my life. And, when it's my time to go, I know I will hear that voice LIVE and IN PERSON once again. Not her hits from this life, but vocals that are even more incredible. A powerful voice in this life, but in the next, a voice that can bend the universe. We need to see if she can help us with a warp drive engine-- she can bend space in front of our new spaceships. lol
You can see longer segments of her performing "Sunset People" on her TV special and also on the Hot Summer Night home video from 1983 (both on YT). Those don't have junk all over the screen either.
Thank you so much for sharing this. With the movie Spinning Gold coming out this week, this is video is amazing as presenting the actual Donna and Neil in a real life time capsule of an amazing time in both music (and history). This presents Donna at the pinecale of her success as well as Casablanca's. And her Bad Girls and (original) Live and More concerts are needed on dvd/blu-ray for any music fan to witness the impact of Donna Summer.
This was a fantastic share! Thank you .I keep learning so much about the Artist I've loved all my life . I LIVE her MORE... ( Wink).. oopps..... I mean .. I love her More!!!
She wasn't a "disco queen", she was The Queen of Disco, but she was much more than that. Hot Stuff was rock and won her a Grammy in the Rock category. She could sing anything. She also co-wrote with her husband a #1 song on the Country Charts for Dolly Parton. She has a Grammy in Inspirational, Dance, Pop, and Rock, and a Lifetime Achievement Grammy. Love to Love You, Baby wasn't exactly "disco" - it didnt' have the same deep pulsating beat of disco. Unfortunately, people think because she is black and is the Queen of Disco, that everything she did was "disco". Bruce Springsteen had a point when he said that the anti-disco movement was based on racism. Springsteen hates racism, because his closest friend, like a brother, was a black man and they were connected and held each other in high regard. So, Springsteen wrote COVER ME for Donna Summer, but his record company insisted he record it, which he did and it was a huge hit for him. So, he wrote Protection for Donna Summer, produced by Quincy Jones, and Springsteen also played the guitar solo and sang some backup vocals toward the end of the song. It was a great rock song, which Springsteen has performed LIVE. Both Bruce Springsteen and Donna Summer are really good human beings, kind and loving people.
this is 45 years old. for me it is depressing that i did not realize how incredible she was and did not see her live in 1979. 7:38 is the kind of video that should have been aired in 1979 on some music show instead of only seeing donna on talk shows or in the print media.
7:39 so was so frigging cool looking.. it was the harsh record insider critics who took donna down. you have not seen women look this cool since the mid 1980s so why were the critics so harsh on donna in 1979 when she looked and sounded so cool?
Yeah, but it's more about the record company owner than it is about Donna. Nonetheless, I will watch it anyway when it streams. I'm also looking forward to Donna's HBO and HBO Max documentary more so than Spinning Gold.
@@JimmieJamOfTheDay Also in Spinning Gold it was a MAJOR miscast of Donna Summer🙄, it's not hate as some fos people would say, it's an observation, a fact.
Donna had the whole package .She sang with attitude and conviction. I loved that about her ..
Best female singer ever!
Throw that live concert on DVD NOW!!!!
This concert should be out in DVD format at least. All her fans deserve it
This! 👈
What concert? Isn’t this just news footage recorded for 20/20.
I agree
She was one of a kind. Her talent was divine.
She still has my heart. Love ya Donna!
Amazing footage of DONNA performing live. What a treasure!
Whaouhhh Never seen footage here! So this concert has been filmed!! It should be on dvd now!!

She was the BEST bar none!
You are incorrect. Check out her 1983 Hot Summer Nights concert on UA-cam where she performs "Sunset People".
7:43 she had in 1979 the glam look that exploded by the mid 1980s. she was far ahead of the time with her glamorous looks

Donna Summer!!! Love her.
My childhood memories are of Donna's music ❤
The glory days of disco .......and bars to this day play Last Dance as the closing song of the night
Such a talented artist! Really divine and still underrated
There was only one Donna Summer & she will be missed but her music will live on forever RIP DONNA ❤
To see Donna Summer singing Sunset People is everything❤❤❤

7:38 she was really cool looking. she was so underappreciated at the time.
Under appreciated? She was the biggest star in the world at one point
Thank you for the complete segment. So nice and clear. I don't care about logos on the screen. Folks get unnecessarily annoyed about trivial things.
Donna Summer is will always be the best I love her so much

She could actually sinv and was soulful... Two she influenced Selena
Do you have Village People on 20/20?

@@rosalyn7762They took a lot of creative licenses. I didn't like the movie at all.
7:48 even her shoes look super cool
A❤❤❤❤
10:42 the women on the right have to be some important people in donna's career at that time.
Uff 💕
4:13 cool outfit
