the interesting thing about the recording by bogos kirecciyan (udi bogos) is not that he is an armenian recording this song, the really interesting part is that it was recorded by balkan records (NYC) for release in the United States, where the main consumers were Armenians and Greeks and other Ottoman minorities (there were few Turks in America at the time)

You can live in harmony only if there is respect for each other which the Turks so far have not shown but even if they do you must never forget the blood that covered the earth and sea of our ancestors during the genocide or when Cyprus was invaded. You are doomed if you forget your history as history always repeats itself.

@shawneechief : Well said. Mpravo sas. My wife's grandmother was from Tsanakale, & as a little girl she remembers escaping with bodies floating in the water. They lost everything, & left a cosmopolitan educated life for a Balkan backwater Athens. Fortunately then ended moved to Kerkyra. But throughout her life she never spoke an unkind word of the Turkish friends she or her Family had. The song is about the tragedy of war for sure ... a topic anyone can relate to without offence. Only the first Greek rendition refers to Canakale. In English without the refrain:
"We are going to the war to fight

Don't cry mother even if I am wounded
To the enemy canons I have not surrendered.

This song is Albanian and it was written about our Albanian/ Kosova Ancestors that were send to war to fight among Turkish and German forces. Such a sad story because they never came back. What’s even sadder, no one ever mentioned them for loosing their lives for Turkey. This song was written for them, as a Memorial that by signing about those 20,000 brave fighters, from one generation to another, they memory is kept alive at least In songs.
Albanians/Kosova, has a custom of making history songs by memorizing fallen fighters since our History continuously was destroyed, we kept it alive by writing folk songs.
May the souls of the fighters rest in peace!!
This is our Albanian/Kosova version and those two ladies are sisters and they do a pretty good job by singing it together. Enjoy it !

In a place where Greeks and Turks lived together for centuries, can you really talk about anything being 100% Greek or Turkish? Look at Greek folk music; every area is different, showing the influences of other peoples in the region. Same for Turkish music, compare Rumeli Türküleri with music from Urfa, the Aegean or the Black Sea. For that matter, many Greeks and others "Turkified," but it doesn't mean they lost all their musical or other culture. Enjoy the music.
