  • INSANE Car Recovery - Mercedes GL550 in a TREE! Ever seen George of the Jungle? It's been a while but I don't remember George driving a Mercedes LOL. The driver of this Mercedes GL550 SUV somehow launched himself (or herself) off the freeway, landing right in the middle of a bunch of trees. Alex responded in Big Flipper, our 75ton rotator, assisted by Rudy in a flatbed/rollback.
Normally you try to retrieve a vehicle by pulling it from the way it came in. Here, Alex made the call to do it from the surface street down below instead of from the freeway. He made the correct call as he had much more room to work in and it was much safer as opposed to working on a busy live freeway. We don't always get the luxury, but it worked out great here.
B/A car recovery straps were used to first winch the Mercedes SUV out of the trees, then it was set down on level ground. From here, Alex and Rudy rigged all 4 tires for a clean lift, so it can be swung directly onto the flatbed and ready for transport. No clue on the condition of the driver since they took off on foot prior to anyone showing up.
How did Alex and Rudy do?

Josh, I'm home now after the 3-strokes that occurred on 8/28/23. Hospitalization until 9/6/23 and rehab finished 9/22/23. Getting better slowly at home. My Black cat Betty-boo couldn't stop talking to me, even after she burrowed her way under the sheet. I have a feeling that she missed me. I made a 6-qt pot of chili this morning, just for good measure. I have the slow cooker set for 20 hours.

Chain damage ? Dude the car flew at 75mph off the freeway and crashed into the trees. The chain goes behind the spoke and is 7/16”. Do you honestly think these wheels were pristine before ? If it’s a Lamborghini or car in precarious spot with no damage then ya you use other methods. To pull a car out of trees, this is acceptable. Like the guy is going to come pick up his car , see it’s mangled and then say “wait a minute, I think I see a scuff on the rim that wasn’t there!” It’s going to copart anyway
