Hi Sam I am sorry to hear about Gadwall's sound decoder destroyed, but on Hornby's website they do actually sell the A4 tts sound decoders separately so you can get a new A4 tts sound decoder for Gadwall.
Yeah absolutely, but I'm not too bothered to be honest - if I ever see one going cheap I might, but to be honest, I'm quite happy with her on DC! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
The best video by far, A4's are my most favourite locomotives, Mallard is my favourite Class A4 loco, Mallard is the legend of the rails, can't believe she's 80 and still hold an unbeaten record of 126.88mph, loved this video Sam:)👍😎
The A4s are my favorite British steam engine, and my favorite A4 liveries are LNER Blue, BR Blue crest, and BR green, although they look good in any of their liveries with any livery of coaches! My favorite particular A4s are Gadwall (As I've seen the TTS Sound version running in person, and i hope to get my own soon) and Dwight D Eisenhower (Because it's one of only two A4s in North America, and has some good-looking nameplates that really compliment the engine)
This is awesome! A4’s are my favorite engines of all time (it’s Mallard that’s my most favorite.) It’s always annoying that you can’t find them in America. :(Keep running more A4’s Sam, you’re awesome! :D
I got this vid in my recommendations today and decided to watch it. I have a Kingfisher in BR blue myself, but now, after seeing your collection of A4s, I want another one. They are such amazing looking machines.
the A4s are my absolute favourite class. Mallard and Gadwall in particular, because of the colour. You should get a blue Mallard (I can only afford the railroad ones) it's a great model though. Great video! lots of excitement for the next running session!
One Inception Is LNER A4 Preserved Engine 4464 Bitten Repainted As Along Time Scrap Mate 2509 Sliver Link In Action At The National Railway Museum In York's Mallard's 50th Anniversary In 1988 Back In The Early 1980's. Thanks Sam'sTrains Mate. X
Many years ago, in an underfunded railway museum somewhere in the wilds of North Shields, I saw 2 A4s in silver livery. One was Silver Fox, I wonder whatever happened to her?
And ye...when silver link established the a4 as a success, A4s were initially all done in Doncaster green, however it was quickly phased out by the much more famous garter blue...
Wow! My hornby mallard ( garter blue) was my 5th loco too! I had my uncles old GWR 0-4-0 from the 80s which was rubbish and don't work anymore, 2 hornby 0-4-0's in CR blue from the caladonian Belle set ( I got 1 for Christmas and my uncle gave me one) and a WCR red hornby 0-4-0 from the west coast highlander set. Except the mallard is also my newest at 2yrs old because I've brought rolling stick instead recently.
Lovely. Best group of locos you've ever run! 👌🖒 In answer to your question: my favourite livery for the A4s is the BR lined blue, mostly because of my affection for 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley (having fired her a few times). In observing your A4 on a goods train, it used to be the norm when they got run down and were waiting to enter Doncaster works for overhauls (although modern tankers...? Maybe a load of private owner wagons, like the Ocean ones, would've been better suited - but it's your video/channel...so I can't say much). Well done :)
Many thanks Phil, really glad you liked those! Ooh good decision - yes I really love that BR blue too! Ahh that's good news - It wasn't too much of a sin though! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Lovely running session with a great amount of liveries, the a4's also had wartime black as well. I have heard the rarest variation of the wrenn a4 is the then (1980's) as preserved sir Nigel greasily in the Garter blue. Apparently only 52 were ever made making them extremely hard to find, although there is one for sale and its priced at just over£1,000,00! something I could never afford!!
Thanks so much mate - ooh of course, I still need to get a Wartime black version! Ooh really, blimey yeah - I could never afford that either ;D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
you can tell its not a hornby mallard by the colour and the wheels! i'm liking that one plus cast metal? must weight a ton one of those put it on the shelf and make sure its under the main shelf part, also with the shelfs would you put track on it so that the engines wheels are always on the track rather then wood or is it more engines fit on the shelf without the track,
haha yeah you can tell! And yes - cast metal, so it weighs an awful lot - I keep all of my wrenn stuff on a floor cabinet, so that they're not supported by a shelf ;D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Nice beautiful A4 running session. I chose the Golden Eagle in BR blue as my favorite. It is sad that Silver Link and Golden Eagle are not preserved and sadly scraped.
Fantastic running session! These engines are spectacular, I just love them. I know she wasn't here, but I think Silver Fox is probably my favourite of all the A4s, purely because of the silver lining and her name. I know that's silly, but I like foxes. :D I'd quite like to get my hands on a Hornby A4 one day. Keep it up, Sam!
Drawing near to their withdrawal, A4s did occasionally pull express freight from time to time. So while Gadwall certainly wouldn’t have, A4s pulling freight isn’t *too* unrealistic
Thanks Sam! Oh yeah - I've heard that those are good pullers - is that the same as the Bachmann ones in terms of bodywork?? Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Favorites: Silver link, golden eagle and mallard. And here is a list of preserved A4 locos. Union of South Africa, bittern, sir Nigel Gresley, Mallard, Dominion of Canada and Dwight D Eisenhower.
6 A4's are presereved two over seas in the USA and Canada 4 here in the UK Bitteren is one of them cos they had all 6 at the NRM for the "The Great Garthering" I got to sit in the driver side of Bitteren.
Great video mate :) sadly my grandma passed away today which fits in with this video, she got me my first train set with an a4 so I always associate the a4s with her so this video made me smile :) thanks a lot mate --- Ben
Hi mate, so sorry to hear about your Grandma - hope you're doing okay. Lovely to know you have some memories of her with your first train set - so at least you still have that to remember her by :) Hope you and you're family are all doing okay, Sam :)
This video randomly popped up in my feed, I watched it then scrolling down the comments stumbled upon this one! Ben I can tell your grandma got you that train set because she loves YOU 👌
1:18 This LNER A4 Pacific Steam Locomotive Sliver Link Is A Bit Like Spencer The Grand Engine From Thomas The Tank Engine And Friends. Thanks Sam'sTrains Mate. X
What do you think of those flangeless trailing wheels on the Hornby A4's? I notice a lot of time, they aren't even turning... and "hovering" off the rails in curves just looks ridiculous! I have three Hornby A4's, and used flanged wheels and modified the trucks extensively to increase the side play, and keep the wheels on the TRACK...!
You're right, they do look ridiculous - but they don't cause problems which is one thing! Really though, I suppose I'd prefer a real articulated truck :3 Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Hey Sam loved the vid there are six remaining A4's which are Sir Nigel Gresley, Mallard, Union of South Africa,Domainion of Canada, Bittern, Dwight.D. Eisenhower
The blue Golden Eagle has to be the one I like the best. These are very distinctive engine and you know, I have seen one in real life. I have seen Dominion of Canada and next week I am off to 'The Frozen North' where we might see her again - in Montreal you know.
Although not my favourite class of loco, having never seen one in steam in real life, though I did have a toy one when I was a boy. It was a "Hornby Doublo 3 Rail", "Sir Nigel Gresley" in Garter Blue. I got it from my granddad, one from his railway collection so I don't know it's real age, but I got it in 1956, and it was all cast metal, so very heavy. I prefer the LNER Apple Green livery myself. I did, one time, see an A4 hauling a goods train, so there is a prototype for everything. For reference:- back in steam days all inflammable tanker trains had two "barrier" wagons between the loco and the tankers and between the tankers and any brake van. Also, I see you always put your passenger brakes on the end of your trains. Passenger train can have a brake on either end, or both, or even somewhere in the middle, especially if it is a full brake. I also like the fact that you have a TARDIS in your scenery. That's all for now, regards, Alan.
Thanks Alan - ooh what memories, those Dublo A4s were just mighty - it'll be the same was my Wrenn one, with a different tender and different guts! I love the Apple green too actually - it's just so unusual on an A4 - fantastic! haha yes that's force of habit - but I am told it'd be fine to mix them up a bit ;D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Hi Sam, I think the Wren A4s were made from the Doublo tooling and to my knowledge/ both Malard and Sir Nigel Gresley are at the National Railway Museum at York. I have a DVD of the Severn Valley Railway which has A4 - Union of South Africa on it as a visitor. Many "Top Link" express locos were pressed into service on goods trains in the last days of steam. Flying Scotsman, my wife's favourite loco, and one of yours, looks brilliant in Apple Green. Regards, Alan.
Hi Sam great video love the BR blue Golden Eagle. the Doncaster loco is an A1class model and will you be looking at Snupps during one of you upcoming live streams?
Thanks Joseph for the comment - yes that's the one! If I finish one of the streams before the hour is up, then yes I'll go look at snupps! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
My favorite A4s in this A4 running session is the Mallard in the LNER blue and Golden Eagle in the BR Blue. If I had to choose a favorite it would had to be the Golden Eagle in BR Blue because I always love British locomotives in BR blue with its white stripes and black wheels to contrast the blue. The A4 is in my top 10 favorite tender locomotives from the UK and it is on #3. :)
Did I misshear you how many A4s are preserved, Sam ? There are 6 A4s preserved although not all are capable of steaming. They were together at the NRM York and at Shildon a couple of years ago.
hmmm i wonder,if these locomotives we're a living thing they would be like green:"oh hello cousin" blue:"hello Jimmy"silver: "powerful puff u got there" anyways GREAT VID!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THE A4 IT''S MY FAV ARODYNAMIC STEM ENGINE!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Sam got 2 more locos I ordered a hornby p2 railroad And a bachmann em-1 look that loco up its pretty cool and big oh my dad says his favorite loco is the LNER a4 it’s mine to
Hi Sam :). I like that train so much and it's Spencer from Thomas and friend. I really like your video please make more video I cheers on you. Cheers, Genta :)
Hi Sam ,, Its the BR Blue for me as most of the wheels are covered which brings it more in line with the superdooper aerodynamics of the day..(not that i don't like the action of the wheels but covered to me is better lol) I cant wait to get some my self and i did go to buy them whilst the lockdown was on here in Australia but they were going as second hand ones like brand new prices so I didnt see the point in paying top dollar for a second handy .. ah well makes sense to me m8 hahah Anyhoo keep up the great vids and info m8. Cheers from John in Australia.
Great vid. I like Silver link because I love Spencer. Where was the FlyingvScottsman or Gordan? Out of all the A4 what is your favorite? Witch one should I get? I just ordered the Backman Gordan😂☺️
A pity you don't have six GWR Manor Class Engines. So how about a running session with a King Engine, Castle Engine, three Halls and the one Manor Engine you have? I'd love to see that. You could attach the King, Castle and one of the Halls to Blood & Custard Carriages, and the other two Halls could have a pick-up goods train each (they are Mixed Traffic Engines), and the Manor Engine could have a rake of Mark 1 Chocolate & Cream Carriages, five in number as seen on the Llangollen Railway. You're so good at mix and match, nobody could possibly do it any better than you.
I knew this was going to happen at some point, in fact i sayd thet in a comment on thet video. If there is any other LNER loco to give a special running session it would be the B12
Beautiful locos and carriages Sam. You’ve certainly made this Raspberry very happy.
haha that's great to hear! And may I say that you really don't look all that mouldy ;D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Yeah.. but your still not fresh 🥁
Ha! I knew it. You got to love A4s. Fantastic running session. My favorite was BR Express Passenger Blue 60023 'Golden Eagle'. Cheers Sam!
haha thanks Kamil - yeah got to love them - glad you enjoyed it mate! :D

Thanks a lot David! :D
Lovely running session with a great amount of liveries, the a4's also had wartime black as well.

Hey Sam love that camera shot, please give more if you can
you can tell its not a hornby mallard by the colour and the wheels! i'm liking that one plus cast metal? must weight a ton one of those put it on the shelf and make sure its under the main shelf part, also with the shelfs would you put track on it so that the engines wheels are always on the track rather then wood or is it more engines fit on the shelf without the track,

haha yeah - it's like you're required to have at least one ;D

Looks the same if ok I will post a pic of it on your Facebook page
Hi Sam I just got me a Missouri and Pacific lines model and two Baltimore and Ohio coaches from that train show
Hi mate - ooh that's awesome - enjoy them mate! :D

Favorites: Silver link, golden eagle and mallard.

Union of South Africa, bittern, sir Nigel Gresley, Mallard, Dominion of Canada and Dwight D Eisenhower.
Good choices there Jared, love them! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I always love the blue one it's quite smashing. 💙
Which blue one?
That BR blue one .the Hornsby super detailed one. The 60023.
What's with the unsightly gap between rear frames and firebox/cab on some? That would be a definitely 'no, no' if I were buying!
6 A4's are presereved two over seas in the USA and Canada 4 here in the UK Bitteren is one of them cos they had all 6 at the NRM for the "The Great Garthering" I got to sit in the driver side of Bitteren.
Yep! I saw them at the Great Gathering too - what a lovely bunch! :D

hard choice! i chose the lner green because not many a4s had that livery
Ooh good choice - yeah the LNER green is gorgeous! :D

I'm pretty sure the streamlining and smaller cylinders to make space for bigger valves are the biggest changes from the a1/a3 to the A4.
Ahh you may well be right - you know more than I do! ;D

The A4 is in my top 10 favorite tender locomotives from the UK and it is on #3. :)
Ahh yes the classic - you can't beat that for sure!!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I always loved Sir Nigel Gresely’s locomotives.
Forgot, im a die hard A4 fan and i think that a A4 pulling goods is a nice change in pace so to speak.
haha glad to hear that didn't anger you too much!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Did I misshear you how many A4s are preserved, Sam ? There are 6 A4s preserved although not all are capable of steaming. They were together at the NRM York and at Shildon a couple of years ago.
Hi mate - yes I said there are 6 preserved, I saw them all at the NRM too! :D

Have you ever thought of getting the silver jubilee coaches for silver link?
I would like to - but they're not cheap, and very basic!!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@@SamsTrains yeah that is true
Hi Sam ,, Its the BR Blue for me as most of the wheels are covered which brings it more in line with the superdooper aerodynamics of the day..(not that i don't like the action of the wheels but covered to me is better lol)
I cant wait to get some my self and i did go to buy them whilst the lockdown was on here in Australia but they were going as second hand ones like brand new prices so I didnt see the point in paying top dollar for a second handy .. ah well makes sense to me m8 hahah
Anyhoo keep up the great vids and info m8.
Cheers from John in Australia.
Good choice John - yes that's a gorgeous look isn't it? Hope you can find one! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great vid. I like Silver link because I love Spencer. Where was the FlyingvScottsman or Gordan? Out of all the A4 what is your favorite? Witch one should I get? I just ordered the Backman Gordan😂☺️
Thanks a lot Stewart, much appreciated - yeah I love Spencer too! Those are not A4s, otherwise they'd be involved!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I just love the a4 class. They are very fast
haha thanks mate - me too, they are fast!! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
They had to preserve Mallard!😁 Would you say hornby or Bachmann are better for a4s? Great running session!😀😀😀😀😀
Haha absolutely! And Hornby without question - Bachmann’s are pretty terrible ;)
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
It is a pity - maybe one day I'll get some more! I could do a GWR 4-6-0 session though, good idea!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I knew this was going to happen at some point, in fact i sayd thet in a comment on thet video. If there is any other LNER loco to give a special running session it would be the B12
haha absolutely - yeah a few people did ask for this! Yeah for sure - great idea! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
