So it was more like a Railway Vortex in a way... down the drain... literally. I love the old films of the old days. Shame they have gone. Thanks Sam.
haha yes indeed! Me too - it's great to look back!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
19:12 that's a Lord Nelson it even says it on the name plate
haha yeah you're right - sorry about that!! :O
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Wait didn't that say "lord Arson"?
@@battleshipfan3435 Lord anson.*
@@battleshipfan3435 it was Anson.
Never saw this one coming! Amazing recreations Sam. As a suggestion for a review, could you take a look at the Bachmann Longmoor Military Railway 2-8-0 if possible?
Thanks a lot mate! Ooh that sounds awesome - I can take a look for sure! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great video, Sam! Quite a successful experiment I would say! I'd definitely like to see more of these recreations, they're most impressive! Keep doing your unboxing and reviews as well, love those too!
Thanks very much mate, really glad you liked this! Oh yeah for sure - I'll never stop with those! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great video Sam! Fun fact, according to wikipedia, the castle caught on Railway Roundabout, 7018, reached the Castle's fasted speed of 102 mph! I seriously enjoyed seeing you recreate these trains. Maybe you could recreate trains from documentaries or films? For example, do the Titfield Thunderbolt, the LMS Coronation Scot from the documentary they made, etc. Hope you like the idea. :)
Thanks so much Patrick, and for the info too, much appreciated!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Brilliant! Really enjoyed that and the superb old footage. We went over to the Lickey incline fir the 1st time last year to watch Clun Castle haul an excursion of 7 coaches up on her own. It was well worth the trip.
Hi Sam, nice video and most interesting to see footage of the old boilers ! Love the little Terrier, I bought one - Leadenhall - after your review and wow, what a great little puller ! Keep up the good work. Cheers,
Fantastic running session, Sam. Glad to see that the Jinties are becoming a reoccurring loco on the layout. :)
Thanks a lot Eddie - ooh yes I do love those Jinties! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hi Sam. What a brilliant idea for a video - absolutely loved seeing the old films.
Thanks so much Paul, really glad you enjoyed it! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
I read a story about one crew on the Tiverton branch line. They moved a 14xx off shed, it had a green fire as a result of poor preparation. There was an old 64xx across from them. It was worn out and was unfit for work. It was to move elsewhere. The crew left the 14xx and nicked the 64 without informing anyone. They ran up the branch and back in the unsafe pannier. They promptly took the 14 again and everyone was none the wiser.
Ooh a green fire? That sounds very interesting! Thanks a lot for the very interesting story!!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Love it! If You Can Remake One Railway Roundabout Episode Which One? And Will You Upload It?
Thank you! I might do the next one, 1959 next! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
This was fun! Really enjoyed it! Thank you for sharing you models and time!
Nice video! Sorry for late comment I'm on holiday with the Somerset and Dorset railway right behind the caravan!
Enjoyed it as normal, keep up the good work :)
Thanks a lot mate! Ooh that's awesome - hope you're having a fantastic time! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Oh yes!
Love those old films, it's great that they were filmed when they were, as they managed to catch a lot of interesting locos that otherwise would never have been remembered aside from pictures.
Thanks so much mate - yeah they are great old films!!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Nice job! I have the entire Railway Roundabout collection as part of a large DVD set i got 2 years ago!
12:35 a Prarie tank works fine! You could've also used that same loco to re-create the train at 6:05!
Thanks mate! Ooh fantastic - I'll have to keep an eye out too for the DVDs!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
This has really got in me into the mood of me wanting more GWR tank engines like the Hornby 14xx, the Hornby 42xx and the Bachmann 4575 class.
Ahh awesome! Me too actually - it's shown me some of the holes in my collection ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
never heard of the camping coaches before either! glad to be learning with you sam!
haha yeah - I thought that was really cool! Apparently Bachmann have made camping coaches at some point! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I’ll have to go out and purchase a couple! Love the videos man!
This video is on point Sam,it's cool to see a recreation, though the movie Roundabout seems interesting to watch. :D
Thanks so much mate, really lovely to hear - it definitely is interesting to watch too! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Very nice. I have plans on doing some Railway Roundabout recreations after seeing this. My favorite consists has to be the LNWR Coal Tank and Super D doubleheader. I really like both of the engines, especially the Super D. Look forward for more. :)
Thanks a lot Benny - that's awesome, good luck with your recreations! And great choice on that - I loved doing that one too! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Railway Roundabout was compulsory viewing for me every week but I totally forgot about it until I stumbled across this video!
Ahh fantastic - time to re-watch then I guess?! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
In the club last night we pretty much recreated the slip coach. One of our members has a collet slip coach built from a kit fitted with magnetic three link couplings. Our club layout has a magnet which means the slip comes off and rolls nicely into the station. needs a fair bit of room to do but looks good
Ooh really? That's very awesome - I'd love to see that, great idea!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Excellent, really nice to see the model versions of real trains. Very commendable.
Thanks very much Ian, glad you enjoyed this!
Cheers,
Sam :)
your video has given me an ideal for a oo layout that i have been trying to think of for a while thank you
Ooh awesome Shane - good luck with it, whatever it is! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
really enjoyed that video - thanks - loved your Terrier at the end
Thanks so much Roger! :D
So we have a few more Railway Roundabout videos to go... 1 for each year (59/60/61/62)?
Lovely. Can't wait.
haha yeah sure - I think I will do at least a few more!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Super nice Sam! And the castle my favorite.
Thanks Marco - ooh yes the Castle is so fantastic! :D
Hello Sam, great video. You got the spirit of Roundabout perfectly. Well done my friend. I look forward to seeing more like it!
Hey Trevor, thanks so much, really glad you think so! I will do more soon! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Nice video sam i was watching some railway roundabout video's the other week i like to see old video's of steam train's nice to see them in model form
Thanks so much - yes me too, it's always lovely to watch the real things! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Never thought Railway Roundabout Remakes would be real.
Cool as... Railway Roundabout was shown on TV here in Australia when I was a kid.. I loved watching it.
Ahh fantastic - great to hear that! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Really nice video this, makes you wish we had all the locomotives so we could constantly recreate these scenes!
Thanks a lot mate, yes it's a lot of fun to recreate stuff like this! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great idea with this video I really enjoy this video. We do not have anything like this in the USA so I am glad you do. Keep up the good work I always enjoy your videos.
Thanks so much Louis - sorry to hear you don't have something similar in the USA :(
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Love this idea it is probably my new favourite type of video on your channel
Thanks so much George - really glad you liked it! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
When I was at the epping ongar railway steam gala there was one of the s160 class locos with met1 locomotive running together because there is lots of gradients
Ahh yeah - I quite like it when they do that though, it's a great spectacle! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)

Sam. I always enjoy your videos. But this one is special in its recreation of history.
Thanks so much Charles, yeah I thought this would be fun to do, on account of the history!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I remember watching railway roundabout on the re upload of all episodes when I was younger
More of this Sam - great stuff
Superb idea ! As a fan of classical Britannica, and UK train modeller epoch end 3/beginning 4, I really enjoy your recreation. So, why not further episodes like this one ? You've got a spectator with me !
Thanks a lot Oliver, really glad you liked this! I would love to try more some day! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Your best video todate Sam. Well done ad more please!!
By the way, the banker would most likely have been either a 57xx or a 94xx pannier, Fishguard had an allocation of both; but the 14xx looked the job anyway.
Camping coaches were old passenger stock fitted out as holiday homes and rented out. All the companies had them, but the GWR and LNER were the biggest users of them. And there are still a few about. There are a couple by Dawlish Warren station in Devon, still in use I believe, but dunno who owns them or how you would go about booking one.
Loved the Lickey squence. First time I went up it was in the early 80's, behind a class 45 peak wth 8 coaches up, boy she struggled, but didn't need a banker. Although there were always a few 37's at Bromsgrove on stand by. Been up it a fair few times since and if the rails are wet, even HSTs and 220 Voyagers can struggle. The incline was part of the old Midland system, later LMS, and the midland built a one off 0-10-0 tender loco for banking, and normally suplimented her with up to four Jintys coupled together. In 1955 the line was transfered to Western region, the 0-10-0 (known as Big Bertha, scrapped and they used whatever was to hand for banking, until they settled on 9Fs in the very late 50's. Lickey in 1:37 by the way.
Oh yeah, just got back from Devon, had a trip on the Paignton and Dartmouth, loco was BR Standard 4 No 75014
Take care amd looking forward to the next episode :)
Jon
That's very kind of you Jon, really glad you thought it was the best!
Thanks for the info on the banker - I'll bear that in mind for any future videos!
Glad you liked the Lickey section, I've never been there myself!!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
What a fantastic, informative and extensive video Sam. Could be a video essay or lecture and shown at railway clubs! I adored the little pannier shot, just thought it was brilliant.
Still brilliant Sam
Mark
Thanks very much Mark - haha I don't know about that! Glad you enjoyed it anyway,
Cheers,
Sam :)
More please Sam, absolutely fabulous idea. Just one correction, the Southern loco in the video clip that you thought was a King Arthur, was in fact Lord Nelson class 30861 "Lord Anson". Look forward to the next one regards, Gary.
Thanks so much mate - I hope to do more of this soon!! Ooh yes you're right - thanks Gary!!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
This channel is so chill, its like Bob Ross with trains.
haha thanks a lot Bob! :D
Very nice idea here and great recreation from you Sam.
I'm going to have to scrub the interwebs for the railway roundabout series to use as reference material.
Good one mate.
Thanks a lot Gerry, glad you liked this one - it was a lot of fun to do this!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
what a great vid sam sorry i have not been watching your videos lately
Thanks so much Jinty! That's okay mate - welcome back!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
This one was fantastic!! Please do more
Thanks so much Chris - I will do more soon! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
One of your best videos mate , would love to see more in the same style! I've got all the Railway Roundabouts on DVD, picked them up at a WH Smiths on holiday years ago , they're fantastic bits of film.
Best regards,
Alex
Thanks so much Alex, really glad you liked it - I hope to do more like this soon!! Ooh awesome - I'd love to get them on DVD, I'll keep an eye out! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
That part with the Lickey Incline
I’m surprised Hornby or Bachmann or someone hasn’t made a model of Big Bertha yet, that’d be a great sight
haha me too! I'd love to get one of those!!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
That was excellent young Sam!
Thanks so much! :D
Your Southern West Country engine was pulling two GWR Parcels Vans. I liked your Castle Engine with the proper chuffing sound best of all, together with Pitchford Hall. More than this, I would like to see a Bachmann Running Session with 15 Bachmann Steam Engines including your oh-so lovable Broome Manor and a three-car green DMU if you have one of those.
It was indeed! Yeah I love the sound locos too - very awesome! That sounds great too - good suggestion! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Man I watch an episode of railway roundabout everyday it was a great show
Ooh yeah - It really is a great collection of films!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hello Sam, thank you for doing this.... I hope you can find the time to do many more recreation programs. Cheers Benjamin
No problem mate - sure, I'm hoping to do more some day! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
You never quite realize how many locos you don't actually have until you try recreating stuff from real life. Great video, Sam.
haha I know - I was so glad to be able to recreate so many!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
My grandad use to watch this when he was a kid he would absoloutely love this. The lickey incline the everest of steam trains haha
Ahh that's fantastic - It really was a good show!! :D
haha it definitely was xD
Hi Sam; great video. It looked like the 9F was "dropping off" having reached the summit at Blackwell. "Buffering up" to a moving passenger train would be considered too dangerous & against operating rules. I would love to see more "recreations". Cheers ; David.
That's very interesting David - that sounds about right to me - I will have to do this again soon! :O
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Good Evening Sam,
What a magnificent recreation of the trains featuring in Railway Roundabout in model form.
The Coal Tank No.1054 was really No.58926 from Railway Roundabout, when she worked with the Super D No.49121 on the SLS Special from Abergavenny to Merthyr in 1958, you have the correct locomotive in model form, but in a different livery.
I would love to see more of these in the future.
Well done my friend.
Kind regards
Jordan Shingler ;-)
10/10
5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
2 thumbs up 👍👍
Hi Jordan, thanks so much for your kind comment mate! Ahh thanks a lot for those numbers, I'll look them up!!
I will do more soon hopefully!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I do like the GWR centenary coaches. Very elegant although I only have 2, one Mainline and one Hornby.
Thanks Jake, me too - I've always found them very elegant!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Saw this the other day but only just watched it. Cracking idea for a running session Sam!
Apparently they still bank freight trains up Lickey Incline with class 66s, and in steam days after it was taken over by the western region they used panniers then 9Fs. Ever seen photos of Big Bertha?
Hey James, thanks so much mate - really glad you liked it! Ahh really? I'd love to try to recreate this! :D
Yeah I've seen photos of her!!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Absolutely wonderful.
Thanks so much Norbert!!
Wow! I've watched a few episodes months ago, and I was amazed by it! also, you will remember when I told you that the fat controller bought at least 15 more locomotives since he restored Oliver. Some of these other locos are a 2MT mogul named Barry he bought from a scrapyard and restored to running order, a Deltic named Catherine, formerly called Meld, and two old friends of Percy's named Jinty and Pug. This information comes from his official Twitter page, and also from his NWR Packet, which is in a link on the top of his page. You'd be surprised how many engines have arrived since 1972.
Ooh me too - it's brilliant isn't it?? Ooh awesome - I didn't know about those engines!!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great idea for a video Sam!
I would definitely love to see more things like this that let you express your creativity more. Of course I, like everyone else, still love the reviews but I love to see these different kinds of videos as well! :)
Thanks a lot mate, much appreciated! Yeah sure - I'll never stop the reviews, but I did enjoy this! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
always great to see you mix it up a bit, i'm sure if you did reviews solid you would get very bored very quickly!
Another great video Sam, That was a very good idea.
Thanks a lot Adam, glad you liked that! :D
Awesome Trains. Thanks Sam'sTrains Mate. X
Thanks so much Luke! :D
I love railway roundabout great recreations
Thanks a lot Robert!! :D
A wonderful idea Sam, and another interesting watch. Unfortunately I was around when these Railway Roundabout Films were made and shown on the television. Just a few points that may be of interest to you...when you get a train Double-Headed Sam, the loco attached to the train is the main loco, the one at the front is known as a pilot loco. The driver of the main loco being in charge. The other point is that when trains are being banked let's say up the Lickey, the banking locos are not coupled to the coaches during the climb, as they simply fall back at the summit and return to the bottom for the next duty. This required a great deal of skill by the Driver of the bankers as you can imagine....Best wishes...Bob
Hi bob, thanks very much for the comment and the info, I’ve made a note of this!
Cheers,
Sam :)
Wow just wow, I would love if you did more of this Sam!
Thanks so much mate - I will try to do more soon! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
What an awesome recreation!
Thanks Austin! :D
Always nice to see something new
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Awesome video today and very interesting Sam
Thanks James! :D
Sam'sTrains could you do some more like this
58926 is your Coal Tank, you just have it with its LNWR number. Incidentally as the last in service it was the one that was preserved, initially at Dinting, but when they fell through, the loco was moved to Keighley.
Ahh is it really?! I didn't know this - fantastic!! Thanks for the info!
Cheers,
Sam :)
Good to see the Hayling isle branch. Happy days at RAF Thorney island .
Steven: *at achool*
Sams train: Hey bud I’ve got railway roundabout and my trains here wanna see?
Steven: WELL would ya look at the time better go on my lunch break😁
Love the video very creative I always look forward to watching what you upload.
haha thanks a lot for the awesome comment Steven! :D
Sam you should recreate trains from the railway roundabout for each year that it was televised, you have recreated trains from ‘58. You could turn this into a mini series! Please consider this as it would be amazing
Thanks Brad - yes if i do more, I may do that - I started with the earlier one, so I could move through them! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great video with a great idea! Would be a great idea to try the slip coach, but i may be quite hard 😂 -oskar
Thanks a lot Oskar - yes indeed, I'd love to get a slip coach! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Awesome video! Please do more!
Thanks a lot mate - hopefully I will do more! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I love this. Please do more of this, but can show the trains a little longer please?
Thank you! I'll do more soon!! :D
That was a brilliant idea. Great research. I loved the footage. Why does no one do a 'Camping Coach'. Maybe a suggestion to put to a manufacturer. Hayling Island what a great choice.
I believe Hornby or someone has done a green/cream Camping Coach Mk1, though we have yet to see the GWR style ones seen here
Thanks so much Nigel! I believe Bachmann has done a camping coach, or so people tell me!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
The 14xx and the other big engine well it looks like Thomas and Gordon in season 1 in 1984
Good luck Sam
Ooh yeah it does you're right!! :O
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Yeah I know right. It makes the episode more exciting for others to see
Hornby produced a camping coach version of their Mk1 a few years back, R4604.
Ahh awesome, I’ll have to look into that! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Nice job sam
Thanks mate! :D
The lickeys original banker was a one of a kind 0-10-0 named big Bertha and was replaced with a 9f. Info from railway roundabout
Ooh yeah I've heard of there - I'd love if someone made a model!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great video! It's nice to see something different every so often. :)
Thanks a lot mate - yes I do try to do new things from time to time! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Nice one Sam I really enjoyed this Thanks for posting :D Teddy
My pleasure Teddy, really glad you enjoyed it,
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
This is an awesome idea! You should do more like this! I loved this video
Thanks very much mate! I will try to do more soon! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Great video, if only someone made the 4 Scottish locomotives that we’re in BR excursions (CR 123, NBR Glen Douglas, GNSR Gordon Highlander, and Highland 103). 123 was made by Tri-ang and I know you have it, but she was only double heading with Gordon Highlander. Bachman of course has City of Truro but she double headed with Glen Douglas. I am sure that the West Highland line Roundabout has something you could use.
Thanks a lot mate! Ooh yeah that would be lovely - let's keep fingers crossed for those!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Really good I didn’t think of some thing like this
Thanks so much Harry, glad you liked the idea!
Cheers,
Sam :)
Satisfying, fun, informative and creative. LIKE!
Thanks so much mate, that's very kind of you!
Cheers,
Sam :)
by the way. that battle of Britain class was "'229 squadron'' in Railway Roundabout.
Ahh really?? I'll have to look out for that one!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
The f2f footage is really rare.
OOh is that so??
Fantastic idea Sam, well done. Very impressed with the commentary, do you work from a script or autocue? If not you are doing an incredible job, as I say very impressed.
PS = Get yourself a USA tank from Kernow, fantastic locos best shunting loco out there. Also the Dapol B4, also a fantastic shunter and also from Southampton docks!
Thanks so much Stephen, really glad you enjoyed that! Nahh I just talk from memory, based on notes I write out! I do quite some editing though, since I have a poor memory xD
I do love the USA tanks, I might well get one!!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
8:01 Reminds me of the Thomas episode, Thomas and Gordon
Ooh yeah?? I'll have to look that one up! :D
omg i see it now
Always Pulling out of the station with great ideas Sam :)
Thanks so much Allen, that's very kind of you!
Cheers,
Sam :)
Awesome Video Sam
Thank you! :D
17:52 - Thomas!
That's great Sam!
Thanks Justin! :D
Great video as always
Thanks Paul! :D
I know I'm two years late but this was great to watch thank you!
5:12 Did you know that was a king which they shot on a Friday because they forgot to shoot a line side shot?
About camping coaches, there are still some in use in the West of the country at a place called Dawlish Warren (great place to go) I think they have 5 chocolate and cream coaches sitting next to the main line near the coast
haha no problem - I'm doing another one too! No I didn't know - that's awesome!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@@SamsTrains that sounds really good, look forward to it
Nice recreating of the railway roundabout Sam . By the way Sam Hattons have a pre owned Flying Scotsman with two tenders, but if you want to see it than you have to search for pre owned Flying Scotsman.
Thanks a lot mate, glad you liked this! Ooh awesome - I will take a look! :D
19:08 you forgot to mention that crazy wheelslip!
Stanier Class were black 5s as they were black with red lining. Jubilee Class or jubs were derived from the patriot class and were known as red 5s because they were crimson lake with yellow lining. They received different livery at times however a black 5 is not a jub. Confusingly though, the Silver Jubilee which gave it's name to the class was black with silver lining, but not a black 5!
Wasn't that a Lord Nelson class at the end there not an N15?
It was a Nelson
Yes you're right Dom - that was my mistake, not sure how I managed that! xD
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
