We have made it to the most northern part of this journey. Today will be leaving Ha Giang and heading to Dong Van for the night. On the way we will drive through the famous Heavens gates, get stopped by the police a few times and get some exciting news!
As I left Ha Giang going around the bend I felt like I heard a noise from the bike which caused me to pull over and check but I could not see anything, or knew what I was looking for. I got back on the bike and joined the crowd of Yellow Helmet groups that are planning the same journey as me today.
The first stop is Quan Ba Heaven Gate which always appears in all the tour guides. This would also be my first coffee stop for the morning. As you would expect it was pretty busy when I arrived but still found a place to seat and enjoy the view.
After here it was all about following the road (QL4C) to Dong Van Plateau stopping off anywhere good to get the drone (DJI MAVIC) and Camera (Sony A7RV) out and record this beautiful landscape
I am not sure if it was just a coincidence but a few days ago in SaPa I made some prayer at the pagoda about the baby we were trying for and today my wife tried a pregnancy tester and it was positive which was amazing news. So it was really an unforgettable experience
After driving through some landscape that looked more like the surface of the moon and also avoiding lots of debris on the roads and broken trees I arrived in Dong Van where I would spend the night. I am not sure though whether it was the adrenaline or the fantastic weather but after having some lunch I decided to carry on to Meo Vac to try and get some Sunset footage.
But first I found a Garage in Dong Van and manage to tighten my bike chain which I discovered was causing the noise early. Not surprising as it has had to cover some serious kilometres so far and is not something they check in a regular service.
After it was feeling so much better I carried on towards Bến thuyền hẻm Tu Sản and again some more spectacular scenery and roads. Although this time they felt more dangerous with the shear drops and towering cliffs overhead as you can see in the video.
I managed to get a perfect location and the sunset was spectacular which was a memorable end to the day!
The main questions are now… Is it a Boy or a Girl and how fast can I get back home to Ho Chi Minh to be with my wife :-)
