  • jolliFactory have designed a single color 8x8x8 LED Cube aptly named jolliCube. It is designed for entry level hobbyist who wants to take on the challenge to build a bigger cube rather than settle for a 4x4x4 or 5x5x5 LED cube.
This video is part 1 of 2 for the assembly of the LED Cube.
You may check out jolliCube in action at • jolliCube - 8x8x8 LED ...

Best Tutorial of „how to solder the LED’s from LED Cube 8x8x8 - best way “ i have seen so far. Great Job man! 3:02 the idea with rubberband and Stick is great! Thanks sir! 😜👍

Great Job of constructing a LED 8x8x8 cube have failed in the past but your step by step instructions are the best I have seen so far will try your method as soon as I replace the LEDs I have damaged Thank you for sharing

This is the first 8x8x8 LED Cube we designed after reviewing what others have come up with. Hope you can share with your friends who may be interested in our LED cube kit set. It is available at www.tindie.com/products/Nick64/jollicube-8x8x8-led-cube-spi-diy-kit/

This is a straight to task tutorial. and I absolutely thank you for that.
I have one question though. If I were to take pride in building this led cube by myself, does 3d filament hold against soldering?

7:48 there were column legs that didn't get soldered, 3rd row from bottom, 4th and 5th column from left. Can see them wiggle.

Yes. You are very sharp. We re-soldered these LED legs off the scene when we realised that the soldering points were not good before we proceed to the next step.

nice and organized work but, do you expect how much current a 512 LED's would consume ? .. by simple calculation these 512 leds will need at least 10 Amperes !

We have been using only a 5V, 1.5A power adapter to power the Arduino Nano and LED cube as our design is based on the awesome MAX7219 IC to drive the cube.

Hey Nick.. Great Job constructing this amazing 8x8x8 LED cube. I am going to make one this summer. I have a quick question.
    1) Is Cathode the Negative End of the LED?
    2) Can you Tell me the Dimension between the LED's.
    3) At the Start of the Video, U r Soldering the Negative End of the LED rite?

      Thanks for the compliment.
The following are the answers to your questions:
      1) Yes.
      2) 18mm apart between the LEDs.
      3) Yes.

Hi, I just bought your kit & assembled my first plane of these LEDs. I went ahead & wired through about 8:30, but didn't have a multimeter that would send enough power to turn on LEDs. I bought a bench power supply, thinking this might do the trick, but still am unsure how to properly get the same light-by-light check you're getting at 8:30. When I set my power supply to 3v, 0.02a, I can light up a single LED that hasn't been soldered, but when I move to the square of LEDs and test, I see the voltage value drop to 0 and I don't see anything light up. Continuity tester beeps over same connections, so I assume this means my wiring is proper, but am I interpreting this right? Thx for the advice & sorry for n00b question.

Very nice - now I HAVE LEARNED HOW SOLDERING FILIGRAN wires ! A REALLY VERY VERY INTERESTING WORK.
The lightning itself, that is not interesting, Why it should ? No, *soldering* is it , of course !
It would have been much more cheaper, - instead of these LED 's - to use thumbtack 's , such with 2 needles - and then 100 pieces, for soldering about 20 minutes , *that* would have been _much more exciting and maximum informative_ , doesn't it ?
    .

Are you soldering the tips of the wires or more behind the LED? It's hard to tell the details in the video and when I'm doing the kit I bought from you, I feel like I'm not soldering in the same places...

    • @nicklim2763
      @nicklim2763  7 років тому

You may solder the wire to any where along that particular horizontal row of connected LED legs. We solder the wires a little away from the LED and hide the wires along the vertical columns of LED legs to the PCB below.

    • @nicklim2763

There is no need for current limiting resistors for our jolliCube design as we are using the MAX7219 ICs to drive the LEDs.
