SAVE SOME $$$. Instead of paying $50+ for the spring tool, I bought an 11" bent nose pliers from Harbor Freight for $6 and ground down the tips using a grinder. Especially on the left side, as it has to fit in the ring and allow the latch hook to fit in too. Worked like a charm!

A couple of tips. First, we ordered the OME gasket from Walmart and the bottom tube is much smaller, such that the spring clamp will just fall off. We then ordered the OME direct from LG and received the exact same sub-standard gasket where the bottom tube is too small for the clamp. We bought a small hose clamp and clamped the tube with that before installing it (the easiest is to remove the solid plastic tube from the lower spring clamp, install the hose clamp, then reinstall the bottom clamp on the bottom hose/solid tube). We installed the gasket around the door after connecting this tube. We didn't end up using the LG $70 tool as it is difficult to unhook the spring from and instead used a screw driver and needle nose pliers to stretch the spring into place. We couldn't have done this without this very helpful video! Very frustrating that LG does not sell an OME part that is original size and quality! What a worthless company not to maintain quality control on their parts! And in our opinion the OME tool was pretty useless. Thanks for the great video!

Other videos that I have seen say that you have to remove the face of the washer. Would your method work for an LG WM2016CW? Thank you!!

Where did you buy the new rubber gasket? I need to replace this too. My is so stained the mold won’t come out with bleach and mildew spray.

What model number is this washer, if i may ask?

no need to replace the gasket, especially if you have a stackable setup. Very costly. Just clean the gasket with CLR Mold and Mildew spray.

my washer is only a few years old; I'll try the CLR instead of replacing. Hoping by doing that regularly I won't have to replace the gasket and smell stays at bay! Thx!

@@jamisjones4677 CLR Mold and Mildew Spray works like magic. Get a little scrub brush and some rags. You will be amazed I promise.

The issue I have is getting in those tight spaces to scrub. But I will try the CLR and maybe just take off that top spring clamp 🤷🏻‍♀️ THANK YOU

Incredibly useful video and great explanation. I’m very thankful to you for taking the time to narrate, record, and post this, since it made it possible for me to fix my moldy washer smell (and not for lack of being willing to pay a professional to do it - surprisingly asking appliance techs to come replace a moldy gasket is not a hot job right now). I wanted to reach into the screen and press the silence button for you when your phone was ringing though, almost drove me insane 🥲
