@ Northern Handy Dad, thank you so much for this vid! I already had a case # opened from LG and I had cancelled it. I have 2-yr. old LG front load washer and after a wash cycle for only 1x king-sized blanket, water came out of the floor on the right front side (facing the washer). I opened the top cover, no trace of leaks. I opened the back panel and there is water on the floor on the left side (facing the machine from behind). There is no traces of water dripping from it's components. The accordion rubber hoses are all good. Then I came to investigate the air vent from LG's youtube vid where common leaks could come from. So I did your fix and lubed the mushroom plunger...and did the 2nd king-sized blanked and not even a trace of water beneath the floor. You're God-sent! Kudos again for helping lots of people who watched this vid. 😊😊
Exactly what happened to us. Washed a king size bed and wife put a lot of soap on that wash, and found soapy water on the floor. Upon further investigation It had traces of water that had come down through that vent. Thank you for such an informative video @northernhandydad
Thanks for the helpful video along with the mechanics of how the mushroom valve works. I paid a repair guy $69 bucks for him to tell me to "use less detergent." He had the washer taken apart and all he had to do was the simple fix that you showed here but I guess he didn't know or didn't care. Should have just come to youtube to start with. Anyway, this was a great video. Clear and to the point. Thanks again.
Thank you! Google picture search sent me here, and thanks to your simple yet informative video I had it apart, cleaned, and back together in a few minutes.
I've had 3 different LG certified appliance repair guys come look at my washer in the last 3 years and not a single one of them even suggested to open up the top of the washer to investigate because the unit is stacked. I was told to use less detergent and switched to HE pods to control the amount of detergent. Thanks for the video, this explanation makes so much sense. Looks like I'll be fixing it myself.
My brand new LG Washing Machine had this same issue with a slight leaking from the rear vent. This video was exactly what I needed, and the fix worked perfectly. The mushroom valve in mine was stuck in place, so I had to use a flat blade screw driver to gently nudge it out. Since my WM is brand new I thought maybe it just needed to be loosened up after shipment, so I tried putting it back in to see if it would move up and down easily, but it was stuck again. I used the O-Ring lube and then it was moving freely like in the video. I have checked a few times and no more leaks. Thank you for posting this video.
I have a brand new machine as well and unbelievably LG won't fix these! I had them out twice for warranty and they just told me to use less detergent, no more than a tablespoon! WTF? I will be trying this fix myself it looks like!
Thank you so much. Just so you know you are one of those internet heroes. Your video was informational and simple to follow, but most importantly didn't simplify or trivialize the process. It was as simple as you showed us. THANK YOU!
Just wanted to say thanks for your video - I've been fighting with this thing on and off for a couple of years. I appreciated your diagram - it made me think a bit further. This time I tried adding lubricant (like you did) and also thoroughly wiped out the inside of the rubber hose where the "mushroom" contacts it. Hoping for success at last...
Great note about the inside of the hose where the valve seats. Mine was pretty gunked up inside, likely from years of hard water. That was surely not helping things.
Thank you for this video. Very clear indeed. I have my LG front-loading Washer apart because I have to replace the spider bracket and the bearings. Since I have it apart I'll certainly check out the tub vents and lubricate them as you did. Perhaps a helpful hint - no need to remove the cover bracket and upper screw, simply remove the lower screw and the cover will slide with brackets in place... fewer parts to keep track of.
I'm so glad I found your video!!! My front-loading Kenmore 796.4027 is leaking from the rear air vent. I was suspect of this being the cause of my intermittent water issue, but it was just confirmed today after I bought leak detectors which alerted me at the time of the leak during the spin cycle when I witnessed a decent amount of water coming from this vent. I only hope that when I take it apart, it is as easy as your LG model!! Thank you for your informative video!!!! 👍
Keep me posted please! I really think those pieces are mostly generic ones used by a lot of manufacturing companies. I'll be glad if this is also your case!
I just followed your instructions which are great, but I discovered the real cause for my leakage at the air vent was due to excessive lint/gunk build up inside the rubber boot on the surface which the mushroom valve is supposed to shut off against. I cleaned this surface and all back together and working.
That's nice that you managed to fix this! Maybe you should consider cleaning the tub so build ups are washed away? Check in the description, I've put a link to cleaning tablets.
My LG front loader was leaking. I took the lid off and found the cold water input solenoid valve was leaking. Fixed it. But now I've discovered the back vent is leaking suds. I've ordered the same lube you are using off Amazon. Should be delivered in a few days. Will get back to you. Thanks again for your video. AWESOME!!!
Exactly what I had to fix! Thanks! I had just installed a water leak detector and soon after I plugged it in, the alarm went off. Quick inspection revealed leak from the same valve. Fixed!
This is the only fix it yourself video I saw that addressed a soap and water leak. Will be taking it apart tomorrow and see if this is the correct fix. I don't think it's the cold or hot water inlet valve because the flood I'm getting is definitely soapy water.
Thanks so much for this easy video , you cut right to the chase , I have a 15+ year old LG front loader and it would be wet under the machine leaking from the back vent , My mushroom was stuck hard in that hole so I cleaned it and lubed it up and glides in and out so easily now 😄
So fate would have it I was in the basement directly below the dryer vent hole digging through a bucket of screws for another project when I start getting rained on... NOOOOO!!! WHAT?!?!?! Shut off the washer, find the leak coming from here. Perfect, a video that is actually to the point and helpful. Wait... He's taking off the top cover... NOOOOO!!! My dryer is stacked on top, I'm by myself right now and have to get this fixed. I hope I can get in from the back panel to get to this, but if not, I think my future project to unstack washer and dryer happens this weekend...Thanks for using captions and not talking. That's so much better than having a hard time hearing what is said.
So I managed to do this repair through the rear. Could barely reach it through the big panel, but I removed the supply hoses, and the top two screws holding the supply connection plate on, pushed it into the washer, and removed one wire clip so I could get in there. If you have small arms, you'll do much better than I did. The hose clamp has plilips head, and a 7mm nut driver worked also. My mushroom was dry too. Used some dielectric pouch for spark plug boots I had lying around.
Cool to know you managed to fix this! Make sure the grease you're using won't drip and stain your clothes tho. But the stuff you use is pretty gooey and should be good 🤞
@@northernhandydad I did have a repeat failure. I was able to unstack the dryer bc i wanted to do that anyways. Taking the top cover I saw there are alignment tabs and its possible I didnt seat the hose fully. I did remove the mushroom again, clean it and used some dielectric silicone I use for coax on sat dish repairs. Fingers crossed. I may just order the mushroom. It had a lot of play, is 11ish years old and is like 10 bucks.
@@northernhandydad oh forgot to mention I went in thru the back by removing the inlet hose panel, pushing it inside, undoing one wire retainer, shining a flashlight thru the big back panel and watching the whole ordeal thru an open screw hole...
Thanks for making the video. I did exactly what you recommend today. I am crossing my finger it will keep it from leaking. I also told my wife to try using less HE detergent. If it leaks again at the air vent, I am thinking about extending the air vent and making it taller behind the washer (like a snorkel).
Thank you for this. In my case the vent hose is cracked and slowly dripping (moisture?). I assume I can get that piece on LG site. I just found the leak now so I’ll check.
Better off using the warranty! I don't think it could gum up in only three days anyway. Problem is probably elsewhere for yours. But just to make sure: are you using the "he" soap and not using too much of it? Using wrong detergent or in too large quantities could lead to such problem.
Great video... I had left a comment prior but don't see it. Either way, was going to report back that I did everything in the video and comments, worked for about 5 loads, now suds and water coming out again. Ugh! Totally stumped at this point. Any other suggestions? Was thinking of replacing the drain pump again just to see if that helps.
Thanks for this. It's providing a clue to my problem perhaps. I have an LG ventless (combo washer dryer wm3998hba). During drying it puts out A LOT of humidity (along with some smell, like slight burning of lint maybe?). Repair tech came and decided to replace the heating unit-saying it was too hot. But that did not solve the problem. Can wash and dry fine. But we don't dry due to the smell, which I'm pretty sure is releasing some particulates. From other forums, I now understand that this tub vent you showed is likely where the humidity might be coming from, and IMO may be related to the smell as well. And there is indeed a dry stain of soap/water that I see. It's been recommended that we put a lot less HE Detergent, so may try that. But do you think the humidity is related to a problem with the mushroom part?
how can you tell if the float is bad? mine looks perfectly fine and moves freely in the hole it sits in. also, what about the space around the top of the float, can't water just slide by that?
yeah, ya' gotta clean the gunk out of the whole unit, top to bottom. Use a small bottle brush on the tubes. Also, on the floor of the tray under the tube that sits over the smaller one there are little plastic nubbies that keep the syphon tube a tiny bit above the floor of the tray which is what allows the syphon to draw the water up and over and down. The fabric softener is also thicker than the water so ya' gotta' keep that clean as well.
I just checked my mushroom valve and cleaned out gunk from near the opening of the black tube. But I noticed a rectangular surface (about 3” x 1” near the front of the top area. Appears in your video also. Mine seems to be caked with dirt. What is that and do I clean it?
My LG is just a month old (2021 model) and my water detector just went off. Had a look at have a tiny amount of water and suds out of that vent. We use HE detergent. I’ll monitor it and use less detergent. Brutal
Our washer is still under warranty and our is leaking from here. This fix/video is just what i needed. 2 questions: 1) do you think this will screw up the warranty and 2) can i use 3 in 1 oil? I dont have the same oil you have.
Hi! Allow me answer this in reverse order! 2) I would recommend NOT using a thin oil like 3in1. It will be washed away pretty quickly and may even stain your clothes when dripping down. 1) I don't think this can void warranty. Mine is also still under warranty and I was never worried to do this. Since you don't have a thicker, more viscous oil, I suggest you do this as a first step: A) Open up the thing and try to clean up the valve shaft. In the process, check what may have caused it to stick; or even if it has to be replaced under warranty! B) Soap suds can gum the valve. Try doing a "Tub clean" cycle with either bleach or special purpose cleaner (I'm using this one: amzn.to/3sfx6xr). Check on UA-cam or Google for "Washer Tub Cleaning". This will remove suds that's located on the outside of the drum/tub, which may case stickiness on the valve. C) Make sure you're using only "HE" soap (High-efficiency), and in small quantities when it's possible. Good luck!
A quick screen shot and a few clicks later i have ordered the same lubricant as you have and will follow all of your advice. Great easy fix video and thanks again for the super fast reply!
Does anyone know if the black boot and the mushroom air valve are supposed to be glued together. Mine is separated, I can pull the black boot right off the mushroom valve. I was going to silicone them together but thought I would ask and see if I get a response. Thanks!
3-in-1 oil is oil-based. Oil eats rubber, and this may result in a very bad day. Never use it, WD40, etc on rubber parts. O-ring lube is silicone and water-based and safe on rubber.
Great video and instructions. What are your thoughts about slightly filing the opening for the shaft of the valve to open it up some more? This should cause less resistance and avoid the use of any lubricants.
Great video! I lubed the mushroom valve and it’s still leaking. I used less than the amount suggested for detergent and HE. Mine only leaks during the spin cycle and it’s just water not really soapy. Any other suggestions?
Same. Found this video and assumed it was fixed. Mine only does this every few loads so I thought it was fixed. Then this morning it did it again. I’m feeling pretty defeated. Hoped that maybe another component to this function might be causing it but I’m just a single woman over here trying to solve these issues lol. Glad I paid a guy to come out for me to only find this video and figure it out. Guess I paid him to unstack my units and open it up for me 🙄
@@ashleyochsankehl3154 so update for me… we decreased the size of our load in terms of how much we would put in and I haven’t had any issues since… Might be worth a shot.
@@northernhandydad interestingly, after I opened the washer…. The mushroom valve is missing…. Guess my model never had one…. Not sure if I should add it or not….. lol. Thank you for the detail explanation though.
15 year old LG WM0642HW here. Just started doing this leak about 2 months ago, but very infrequently. I have the service manual and the flowchart for this is comical. Are you using Low Suds soap? Yes. Are you using the correct amount? Yes. Use less soap. Note, there is nothing beyond that. Going to give this a go and see what happens. However, if the mushroom needs to be replaced, does anyone have a part number? I can't find it on LG's parts site nor Repair Clinic. It almost looks like they want you to buy the entire plastic outer tub assembly. Also will have to look into new shock absorbers soon...
Question , I’m having the same problem . I have the o ring lube ( for the outside of the rubber boot) but should I put any glue on the plastic shaft the goes inside the rubber boot ?
Hi! Have you tried a tub clean? Sometimes there's lint and dried suds in between the drum and assembly. I have recommended a product for that in the description. Also someone reported me in the comments that the rubber boot the valve pushes against may be dirty or misaligned. That would make a poor seal when the tub is spinning.
Hi. Do you think the problem will come back? After the lub is gone? I have 4 brand new commercial washers having this similar issue. The suppler only told me to advise customers not to use a lot of detergent and I find this absurd and ridiculous.
Using less detergent (and proper "he" detergent) is valid advice. I haven't had to redo this job since the video a couple years ago, even if I do ~6 loads per week.
Hi I bought new valve only thing I do not have o ring lube...I did applied silicon grease but water is still coming but drop by drop not like earlier where dripping flow was more ? What I could try more if I do not have olube with me???
Hi! That may be a case of using the wrong soap or too much soap. Check the description of the video for a product designed to clean the tub from soap residues. Also make sure to use HE soap in small quantities.
Thanks for this. But when I opened it up. The mushroom valve is missing altogether, This washer ran fine for several years. I actually think the leak is at the hot water connection, but on the inside part. But I am confused about the missing mushroom.
Is this the same model/make or equivalent? Maybe the design is different and relies on gravity. This being said, make sure to use only HE soap in small quantities. This soap produces less suds than regular ones.
I’m having the same issues with the suds, but I use far less powered detergent. I checked the mushroom valve and it was easy to just lift up and place back, I drained out the dirty water and cleaned the filter. What else should I do? Lubricate the mushroom valve that doesn’t need lubricating?
I ended up running the Clean Tub option and used lime scale solution and it felt cleaner and fresh. Switched to HE liquid detergent and now my clothes are fresh and smell great and no suds or any kinda leaking from the back , thx u !
Tout le plaisir est pour moi François! Si tu as des idée de contenu à produire et fournir en français, fais-moi signe! Il me fera plaisir de lire tes suggestions!
@@northernhandydad I think they mean that the rubber part of the float comes off the float itself. Mine is the same, as if the adhesive that was holding it on dried out.
I currently own a 2008 model, just dumped water on the floor. I see you're on a 2019 now, I might have to just bite the bullet and buy new. at what point doe one say enough, I could have bought a new one.
My previous one I had was in the same years than yours and had the same valve mechanism. Maybe it's worth a look under the hood! Also make sure to empty the lint filter. Also, have you tried doing a tube clean with the detergent I've put a link in the description? Good luck!
I tried a tub clean after the first filter clean, (which really wasn't too dirty at all), but got another OE code before it finished the cycle. So I cleaned up the water on on the floor, pulled the filter again, this time removing the round rubber gasket and really cleaning it as well as the threads on the washer itself where it attaches. ran a test rinse and spin, and presto, not a drop of water anywhere and the next wash cycle I tried with the towels I mopped up previously worked smoothly. 13 yrs. old and currently working /washing again, so far. good vids!

Thanks for the compliment!
Thanks for a detailed video
I just checked my mushroom valve and cleaned out gunk from near the opening of the black tube. But I noticed a rectangular surface (about 3” x 1” near the front of the top area. Appears in your video also. Mine seems to be caked with dirt. What is that and do I clean it?
Nice helpful video bro 👍
Does that mushroom valve have lube on it from the factory?
The valve shaft is much smaller in diameter than the guide. There is a lot wiggle room. Is this normal?
My LG is just a month old (2021 model) and my water detector just went off. Had a look at have a tiny amount of water and suds out of that vent. We use HE detergent. I’ll monitor it and use less detergent. Brutal
Yeah. I don't get it why they still use this design after more than a decade of failure...
Since you don't have a thicker, more viscous oil, I suggest you do this as a first step:
A) Open up the thing and try to clean up the valve shaft.
Wow. Thanks for this video! 🍻 Perfect solution for my identical washer
Glad to know it helped! 🙂
Great video and instructions. What are your thoughts about slightly filing the opening for the shaft of the valve to open it up some more? This should cause less resistance and avoid the use of any lubricants.
Thought about it but I'm worried it could make the valve lift crooked and not seat properly when pushed by the air.
Not all heroes wear capes..Thank you
If I recall correctly, I was in my pyjamas!
Great video! Thank you very much, It worked
Big thumbs up and thank you!
My pleasure! Thanks 👍
Guess I paid him to unstack my units and open it up for me 🙄
@@ashleyochsankehl3154 so update for me… we decreased the size of our load in terms of how much we would put in and I haven’t had any issues since…
Might be worth a shot.
Great video.
What's mushroom valve part number? Where can i buy it.
Thx a lot
Check in the description, I put a link toward Amazon.
@@northernhandydad thx
Thank you so much! Exactly what I need figure out !!!! 🎉🎉
My pleasure! Thanks for the kind words!
@@northernhandydad interestingly, after I opened the washer…. The mushroom valve is missing…. Guess my model never had one…. Not sure if I should add it or not….. lol. Thank you for the detail explanation though.
also, it was only on the final spin mode that the soap and water leaked out of the back.
Thank you 🙏
You’re welcome 😊
Hey, I don't see info on the cleaner in the description of the video that you mention in the comments? Did it accidentally get lost during an update?
You're right! Added a link to those tablets!

LG WASHER VENT BELLOWS FLOAT 4769ER4001B
I did this but still leaks water idk what to do now 😢
So I have to lube the ole mushroom valve. 👌🏻 got it
Question , I’m having the same problem . I have the o ring lube ( for the outside of the rubber boot) but should I put any glue on the plastic shaft the goes inside the rubber boot ?
Shaft need to move freely. The lube goes on the shaft. Never glue that piece!
Thank you so much for your video 🎉
My pleasure! Have a good day!
Any suggestions on what to do next when this doesn't fix that overflow?
@@northernhandydad Thank you! I'll try both of those this week
Thank you for sharing this video.
Thanks for watching!
Amazing video, thank you, good job.
Thank you too!
It mainly gets that way from overloading it with soap
@@northernhandydad no product mention but the lube and valve in description FYI….
Great video. Thanks for making me look like a genius in front of my wife!
Hahaha. Glad to hear it worked!
Perfect 👍🏼 thanks!!!
I tried this and it works for about two weeks and then the problem comes back. Is there anything else I should be checking/fixing?
Make sure to use only "he" soap(less foam). And to use as little as needed. Too much suds will clog up the valve pretty fast.
I’m having the same issues with the suds, but I use far less powered detergent. I checked the mushroom valve and it was easy to just lift up and place back, I drained out the dirty water and cleaned the filter. What else should I do? Lubricate the mushroom valve that doesn’t need lubricating?
Is your detergent "he" rated? Or maybe try with smaller loads.
I ended up running the Clean Tub option and used lime scale solution and it felt cleaner and fresh. Switched to HE liquid detergent and now my clothes are fresh and smell great and no suds or any kinda leaking from the back , thx u !
Thank you. Worked for me!
Glad it helped
Awesome video!! Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
A+ video. Thank you.
Ty you saved my life
At least the washer machine 🤣
Glad it helped you!
Have a good day
Great video thank you
My pleasure! Hope it gonna fix your issue.
Merci Dad!

My “mushroom” is not connected to the rubber insert. Is it supposed to be?
What do you mean by "connected"? It should sit inside of the valve's center.
@@northernhandydad I think they mean that the rubber part of the float comes off the float itself. Mine is the same, as if the adhesive that was holding it on dried out.
O thought that it will work but it doesn’t work, I replace it and still is leaking.
13 yrs. old and currently working /washing again, so far.
good vids!
Thank you!!!
Awesome! Thank you!
You're welcome!
